Last week was 71, this is 70. I know, that be backwards, but we tried to record with Trev for 70 and we had a storm and lost internet, so we came back to him! IT WAS WORTH IT! This is such a fun, honest, encouraging podcast with a guy who is impossible to not like!

Cheating in fishing, not even just tournament fishing, has been an issue forever. I mean, press pause, think about what you did as a kid when someone asked how big your bluegill was. You stretched your arms as far and as wide as you could. As did I. In some sorta odd way, fishing and lying and cheating have always sort of gone together. But what happens when a man doesn't outgrow the "telling a fish tale" phase in life? What drives people to cheat in tournaments or cheat a record or lie on social media? Is it the attention? Is it is the "See this? I am better than you at this, and I can prove it?" or are some people just really that stupid and that selfish and that gross?
On this Taco Tuesday exploration we look back at different cheats through fishing. We talk about what can be done about it, and we hopefully provide some sound advice for anyone who has ever or will ever consider cheating.

"Spro frog only tournament on pool 9. You in?" Nate sent this text to Jordan a few weeks back right after Jordan quit a job that he wasn't in love with. Man! We see it all over now! Young humans just killing the game. On the BASS Elites, the rookies are like professional snipers. I remember seeing these two children who were incredible at skateboarding back in the day. One was named Ryan Sheckler, the other went by Nyjah. And here we are in the big toothy fish game. Fischer (pretty perfect name eh?) has boated something like 40 million musky at the ripe old age of 15. Lucky for us, he's kinda local here and we got him on the podcast.

Alone is one of the coolest / most engaging shows on TV. 10 people are dropped off in the middle of absolute nowhere with no food or water and told to last as long as they can. They are equipped with a sat-phone to "tap out" when they get to the place where they can't take anymore. The longest lasting human wins 500 thousand dollars! Oh, and they have to film themselves the whole time. No crew. No human contact.
Season 10 (on Netflix now) was amazing. Fishing, our passion, was a huge piece of the winner's strategy. Alan Tenta lasted 66 days out there, outlasted everyone, lost 70 + pounds, won half a million dollars, truly felt what suffering is in sub freezing temps in a teepee made of sticks and a tarp, and now he faces his toughest challenge yet; be on the Tackle and Tacos podcast. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. This may not be our new buddy Mo’s life statement, but it kinda is by the way he lives and operates. To be totally honest, we didn’t know Mo Reyes super well, but we knew about him via circles that we both travel in. We were so inspired by this interview, dude’s passion is contagious. I watch Life Below Zero basically everyday on Disney Plus. Alaska has always intrigued me and this is the best of the Alaska shows. The hunting, the fishing, the adventure, the total and complete disconnect from what we know and live here in the lower states, there's something so appealing and curious about it.
Well, one day while watching, Lola reached out to Ricko and to our happy surprise, he responded and agreed to be on our show!
We talk about fishing for food, hunting, appreciation for the outdoors and animals and a lot about Ricko's story, which by the way is truly amazing. Jordan first started ordering from Carolina Fishing Tackle in maybe 2015 or so. The Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) for fishing is insane and ever evolving. In Japan, the bass waters are so pressured that anglers and lure makers are constantly being forced to come up with new techniques as the fish become sort of programmed and desensitized to the same old same old. This forces amazing / creative innovations. Japanese anglers are responsible for rigs like hover strolling, drop shotting, the tokyo rig, and on and on.
CFT has been at the forefront of bringing that innovation from Japan here to the US. They have deals in place to have JDM lure companies newest gear before it lands anywhere else. So when the chance came to have the owners on our show, WE JUMPED AT IT!

We always said we wanted our show to be "listenable" by experts and brand new anglers alike. I recently got a text from a friend who asked about what rod or rods he should invest as he's looking to get more into fishing. It got me thinking.
