  • Ever wonder if there's an aviation and leadership program designed for young people that's also an auxiliary of the USAF?

Well then you're in the right place because today we're talking all about Civil Air Patrol. CAP was founded back in 1941, only a few days before Pearl Harbor. CAP has done lots of missions for the USAF since then, we go into detail about this in the early stages of the episode. We then move on to talk about some of the cool stuff you can do in the program, as well as some great stories. I'm joined by two other cadets from my squadron: C/Capt Carter Hudson, Deputy Cadet Commander of Willow Run Composite Sqaudron, and C/SrA Nicholas Posey, the Safety Airman.

  • Have you ever wondered what it's like to land a small plane on the Amazon river supporting local people?

This week on The Aeronut Podcast, I'm joined by Bob Hamilton. Bob flew cargo out of Willow Run Airport for several years, then transitioned to missionary work in Brazil, flying his Super Petrel airplane in and around the Amazon river. He has several harrowing tales from not only his missionary flying, but also some good ones from flying cargo. All of that and much more, all right here on The Aeronut Podcast.

  • "You can have a RC plane, why can't you have a RC tank that's full size?"

No, we're not interviewing an RC enthusiast. Today we're talking all about USAF test with MAJ Jared Evans. Jared worked testing several different things for the AF, including guided bombs, and he has some pretty crazy stories about different projects he worked on, including launching ICBMs at small Pacific Islands to test their operational ability. Now he works at AFWerx, which deals with helping people gain a contract from the military for various ideas/prototypes that they want to sell to the military, as well as testing products to compete for a contract.

  • Have you ever wondered about how headsets for general aviation are developed and produced? Or what it's like to showcase those products at major airshows across the country

Well, you're in the right place then. This week on The Aeronut Podcast, we're joined by Brian Gawronski. Brian worked for Bose, a major headset company, where he would fly to various airshows to showcase Bose products. Now he's working on the B-25D crew at Yankee Air Museum, where he keeps the headsets in the plane in working condition. Topics include flying to airshows like Oshkosh and Sun n' Fun, meeting some very famous people,  as well as working on the B-25, and just a general chat about that airplane. • Do you know that military aircraft undergo rigorous testing to determine stress points in their structure? Or that a device is used to literally push down the wings of an aircraft to see when and how they break?

This week on The Aeronut Podcast, I'm joined by former McDonnell Douglas aeronautical engineer Bob Morford. Bob worked with McDonnell testing the F-15 Eagle, he developed several ways of testing aircraft for stress, so he's just the guy to talk about this subject. We discuss how he got interested in designing aircraft, what methods were used to determine an aircraft's weak points, as well as just describing some of the weird and wacky aircraft that he witnessed during his time with McDonnell Douglas. All that and much much more, all right here on The Aeronut Podcast.

  • Have you ever wondered what it's like to be an air traffic controller in a war zone? Controlling multiple runways with drones, fighters, and bombers while under enemy mortar fire?

Well, that's what Brent Morgan did in the Air Force. He was an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in the United States Air Force, deployed to Balad, Iraq, and worked at several different USAF bases in the States before continuing his career in the civilian sector in the same job. This week he joins me to discuss what it's like to be ATC, how he got interested in aviation, why he thinks ATC is one of the best careers in the Air Force (even though he's obviously biased) as well as telling some really funny stories. All that and much much more, all right here on The Aeronut Podcast.

  • Did you know that in 1944 a B-24 bomber rolled off of Willow Run's production lines every 60 minutes? Isn't that crazy? How did they do that?

That success was largely due to the women that worked at the plant, known as Rosie the Riveters. This week on The Aeronut Podcast, Alison Beatty joins me to discuss the history of women workers at Willow Run, as well as some of the history of the plant as well, and how they got the production lines up to speed. Hold on to your hats, it's aviation history time!

We go on to cover the Tribute Rosie's that Alison is a part of, who honor these incredible women year round in parades, airshows, and more. We go on to discuss world record attempts, lunchbox drill teams, and much much more, all right here on The Aeronut Podcast.
