Amanda (Winslow) Rego was a 7-time All-American runner at Florida State University, including an NCAA runner-up finish in the 2013 indoor mile. She then went on to run professionally, with a 1 mile personal best of 4:26. She is now a coach at Metro State Denver University in Colorado, where she is living a passion that she had since early in her running career.

Amanda's story is a wonderful example of how centering your life on Christ can transform how you view running or your sport into a way to glorify God and grow in his likeness. Amanda shares how she came to center her running and life on Christ, and how experiencing God's love is more valuable than anything you can achieve on the cross country course or the track. She shares how finding purpose in running or your sport gives you the freedom to passionately pursue your goals without the emotional risk of letting others down and without feeling guilty about how much you invest in your sport.

In addition to working with AIA Track and Field, he is a volunteer coach with the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs.

In this conversation, Nick explains how an identity as an athlete can get in the way of experiencing joy in sport and how integrating faith and sport helped him see that he is more than a runner, providing a greater purpose. He also shares practices that you can use to connect your faith with your sport so that you can experience a secure identity independent of how you perform or what others think about you. This conversation on identity and purpose provides fundamental yet profound insight for anyone investing in their sport or anything they care about.

  • Tyler and Cali Werner took a leap of faith to step into the roles of co-directors of the Altitude Project. In this conversation, they describe how they are continually challenged and used by God to make impact.

Cali ran for Rice University, qualifying for NCAAs in cross country and the 10k on the track. She also ran at the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials. She is an OCD therapist, motivated by her personal experience with OCD to connect her running, faith, and desire to help others through her clinical practice. Her husband Tyler is a firefighter in Houston, TX, where they live. He is an avid runner and sub 3 hour marathoner.

Both demonstrate passion to make disciples and impact others with the message of Christ. As Cali emphasizes, impacting one person is significant and can result in a much larger impact - the ripple effect. This conversation encourages us to continue showing up in faith so that God can use us, as he wills, for his kingdom.

Much has been written and talked about concerning training physically and mentally in sports, whereas spiritual training receives little attention. However, training this aspect of life is the most impactful thing you can do for yourself (and others).

In this conversation, Kevin Gideon, coach of cross country at Le Tourneau University, explains the importance of training spiritually along with his approach to physical and mental training. You'll also learn best practices for spiritual as well as physical training and how to approach competition with a productive mindset - insight to help you grow holistically.

  • With fire in their hearts to provide college runners the opportunity to train competitively while also investing in their spiritual development, Avery Blackwell and Greg Jimmerson co-founded the Altitude Project in 2004. Both were successful college runners - Avery 8-time All-Conference and an NCAA XC qualifier at Cal Poly in 2000 and Greg an All-American with a 4th place finish at the NCAA XC Championships at Stanford, leading his team to the title in 1996 - training post-collegiately at the Nike Farm Team, an elite/Olympic development training group.

In this conversation, they recount the story of envisioning and realizing the vision for The Altitude Project, from their high school/college running experience through their time as camp directors. While this is the Altitude Project story, it is more so a story about being commissioned. Listen to how Avery and Greg were commissioned and obedient in answering their call to those around them and later to college runners across the nation - a beautiful example of commissioned followers of Christ and how all of us are called to God and to others.
