In a break from covering the CW, Sabrina Reed and Reed Gaudens are sitting down to talk about music. From what they listened to in their youth to what they're listening to now, the two trade stories about the communal nature of song sharing, the ways in which certain artists are held to standards that aren't fair, and letting people like what they like even if it's not for you.

TV is back! Well, sort of. The CW’s main tentpoles won’t be airing until April but at least filming is getting underway. Not to mention there’s a new show and two acquisitions to look forward to in January 2024.
The Conners is the latest attempt at establishing a solid comedy on the network, this time by tapping a series that will debut a new season on ABC in February. Ride, formerly of Hallmark channel, is a modern western that should get the Walker and Sullivan’s Crossing fans tuning in. And, lastly but certainly not least, Vanessa Morgan is set to make her return to the CW with Wild Cards. Let Sabrina Reed, Michael Patterson, and Reed Gaudens tell it, in a spoiler-free way of course, this is a show to be tuning into every week!

This week Sabrina Reed, Michael Patterson, and Reed Gaudens have their eyes turn toward the future of The CW and a storytelling device that's all about the past aka the flashback.
Wild Cards, the new Vanessa Morgan-led comedic procedural coming to the network, is on their watch list and the trio have seen the trailer so, of course, they're reacting to it! Also, with new content still being a month away, they're doing another discussion pod. This time it's about flashbacks, a tool in a writer's holster that can do wondrous things for a plot or bring it all the way down.
Timestamps:
0:20 - More Wild Cards news and reacting to the trailer
10:18 - Flashbacks, let's be choosy about when we use them, writers

Yes, there's a standard that should be met and they've taken out their measuring stick to try to gauge where it is.
What's your standard for a cliffhanger? How would you define the term and apply it to television? Share your opinion with the trio!

Happy Thanksgiving! For this year's holiday special, Sabrina Reed watched her first ever episode of Gilmore Girls, supplying Reed Gaudens and Michael Patterson with her hot takes and opinions of a classic episode from the beloved series.
The trio also revisited Gossip Girl's "Blair Waldorf Must Pie!" which reminded them of how much they love the original. HBO Max's revival came and it saw but it did not conquer like the CW drama. Speaking of the network, there's news! Two comedies have been pulled from the schedule (again) and we finally have filming windows for three out of four of the returning shows.

Look, The CW Spiral knows they're 20 years late with their anger over the WB cancelling Tarzan but Sabrina Reed, Michael Patterson, and Reed Gaudens had no idea how attached they'd get to the eight episode series.
Episode 6, "Surrender," had its issues but Jane laying everything on the line and the show breaking away from the case of the week format really did wonders. With only two episodes left, the trio wonder what's in store as they race to Tarzan's abrupt end.
Also on deck: The Spiral reacts to Dawson's Creek, Party of Five, the Melrose reboot, and Heartland being available to stream on the CW App and cwtv.com.

Finally, we have some good news from The CW and no one's more excited than Reed Gaudens though Sabrina Reed and Michael Patterson are a close second. That's because Vanessa Morgan is coming back to the network in the procedural series, Wild Cards. The actress is the lead and The CW Spiral will be seated! The trio will also be tuning into Sight Unseen which is bringing another CW vet back to their screens, Daniel Gillies.
As for wrestling making its way back...well, the Spiral are less excited about that since it's NWA and not WWE, but with Michael as their guide into wrestling, they may catch a match if the reports of The CW broadcasting the sport are true.
Picking up where they left off with Tarzan--which also marks the halfway point for the eight episode season--episode 4 "Rules of Engagement" is the best episode of the series since the pilot. The more the trio of seen, the more they wish the show hadn't have been canceled by The WB.

0:32 - CW News: Wild Cards and Sight Unseen details; NWA is coming to The CW (reportedly, not confirmed)

The CW's new content is still riding the bench when it comes to Sabrina Reed, Michael Patterson, and Reed Gauden's watch list, but the trio do have news to share about the network this week.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed Riverdale's final season could have taken viewers out of the '50s and into more decades but the writers room showed restraint. Sullivan's Crossing and The Spencer Sisters' debuted to strong numbers (at least on The CW's scale), and there's reportedly a premiere window for All American, All American: Homecoming, Superman & Lois, and Walker.
As for the CW Spiral's Tarzan journey, they may be a bit ahead of the plot but no one can say this group isn't invested. Episode 3, "Wages of Sin," put the case of the week in the driver's seat to mixed results but the use of Matt Nathanson as a theme for our hero was an excellent decision.
Looking for a specific part of the pod? Here are some timestamps:
0:26 - CW News: Riverdale's forgone decades plot; Sullivan's Crossing and The Spencer Sisters' debut ratings
11:03 - When the All American universe, Superman & Lois, and Walker are expected to return
16:24 - Tarzan 1x03: The case takes up too much of the plot but at least there's Matt Nathanson

As Reed Gaudens put it when the CW Spiral started their Tarzan journey, the pilot piloted but episode 2, "Secrets and Lies," is where he, Michael Patterson, and Sabrina Reed began to see cracks in the hidden gem. This is due, in part, to an unexpected death, some very thin writing for Jane Porter, and a failure of the Bechdel Test that could have at least gone somewhere. But in spite of these drawbacks, the trio are glad to be on this fast-paced ride. They're manifesting what they hope to see next on the short-lived WB series especially now that Lucy Lawless has been introduced into the plot as Tarzan's aunt, Kathleen Clayton.

In the first episode of The CW Spiral's third season, Sabrina Reed, Michael Patterson, and Reed Gaudens are starting their Tarzan journey!
It's been 20 years since the WB series from Eric Kripke aired. Back in 2003, the adventure drama was canceled after eight episodes. Having watched its chef's kiss of a pilot, the Spiral are putting on their investigative hats to sort out whether the show was cut down too soon or it fizzled the longer season 1 went on.
Join the trio as they discuss Leighton Meester's involvement in Tarzan, the musical cues in the pilot that include a classic Avril Lavigne song, and how the WB series gave them Batman vibes.
