Nearly everyone insures their body with health insurance or their car with auto insurance. But how do you insure yourself against the machinations of greedy politicians, taxing and regulating your hard-earned wealth away at every turn? This is exactly where an offshore Plan-B comes into play. In today’s episode, I share with you a recent conversation I had with my friend Tom Bodrovics on his show Palisades Gold Radio. I explain exactly why an international Plan-B is vital for anyone looking to preserve their liberty and wealth against inflation, taxation and the myriad of problems caused by psychopaths holding political office around the globe.TODAY’S CONVERSATION WITH TOM BODROVICS: Hear why the question is not “what if” but “how high” when it comes to rising exit taxes and fees worldwide. Listen as I struggle to name even one country where it’s gotten easier to get a visa in the last few years; the truth is, prices are always going up. Discover why having an offshore Plan-B is having insurance against politics. Hear my unfiltered thoughts on how I view countries like Argentina, El Salvador, Mexico and Colombia as Plan-B destinations. What do government agents really see when they scan your passport? Learn what sort of information gets shared when you cross borders. What are some of the countries expats should steer clear of? Find out what countries are on my personal blacklist as far as Plan-B’s go. Learn what the best passports are that you can get through citizenship by ancestry - the answers may surprise you! Am I worried my kids might one day argue about who was born with the best passport? Believe it or not, this is something I do think about….

Living off-grid doesn’t have to mean “barely getting by” and going without our favourite life amenities. In fact, today’s guest, Patrick Hiiebert, is building luxury, freedom-oriented, off-grid communities right here in Latin America. Like myself, Patrick was born in Canada and now lives in Latin America. He is the CEO and one of the founders of EcoVillages and VidaVerde AgroForestry. Through his work at EcoVillages, he has founded Veritas Village Panama, a luxury off-grid community outside of Panama City. TODAY’S CONVERSATION WITH PATRICK HIEBERT: Listen in to find out how Patrick and his family ended up falling in love with and living full-time in Latin America. Learn why Patrick intends to win back the term “eco” from climate commies who have distorted it to be conflated with socialism. Can you really live off-the-grid while having all the amenities of luxury, first-world living? Patrick reveals the pieces that make the concept work. Discover what the future holds for the Veritas concept and what other countries are on the radar for potential Veritas-inspired communities. Tune in to hear Patrick and I brainstorm some wild ideas together for expanding this off-grid luxury concept. Find out how living in an off-grid community not only improves your way of life but drastically decreases your cost of living. Hear Patrick explain why the demand for this type of self-sufficient community has skyrocketed since COVID restrictions of a few years ago. By the end of this conversation, you’ll fully understand why Latin America provides an ideal, welcoming and safe environment for these off-grid communities.

“Why Panama?” I get this question every day, especially in a world where the word “expat” is still often associated with countries like the UAE, Portugal, Singapore, and others. It was not an easy decision, and it was not one my wife and I took lightly. When we decided to leave the UAE several years ago, we spent countless hours debating the pros and cons of several countries before deciding on Panama.Since I get this question so often, I decided that this week, I would share with you a presentation I gave at last year’s Expat Money Summit, in which I lay out all the reasons we settled on Panama as our home base. This will also help give you an idea of the flavour of some of the presentations you’ll hear at this year’s Summit. And don’t worry—I never do the same presentation twice, so you’ll get all new content at this year’s Expat Money Summit. TODAY’S EPISODE ON WHY I CHOSE PANAMA AS MY HOME BASE: Tune in to hear me first lay out the good, the bad and the ugly of the UAE and why we decided to search for another home country. Listen in to hear about the most pleasant experience one could ever have losing a wallet when I lost mine in a taxi in the UAE. Hear me compare the stark differences in both the cost and quality of food between the UAE and Panama. Learn about Panama's very favourable tax situation, a big factor for many expats looking to protect their hard-earned wealth. It’s not all about numbers. Discover all you need to know about the lifestyle in Panama and why it suits our family so well. What about the visa options? Learn about Panama’s many residency options and which pathway we chose (an option that is, unfortunately, no longer available.) Is Panama safe? Find out what it’s like living here, how the country respects the rule of law, and whether you can legally own a gun here. Lastly, you’ll hear what it’s been like living in Panama City and why this Latin American metropolis has become such a hub for expats.

It seems like every day, a Private Client or subscriber to our newsletter asks me about El Salvador. I can’t say I necessarily blame them; with everything Bukele has done, from turning around the violent crime situation to legalizing Bitcoin, there are plenty of reasons for expats to take an interest in the direction of this emerging Latin American country. But having not been to El Salvador myself for twenty-some-odd years, I decided to take a long weekend trip down there to meet up with a few business contacts and check out how things had progressed since I had last hitchhiked through it as a much younger man. This episode is my full report from the trip and my thoughts on El Salvador’s potential for expats. TODAY’S EL SALVADOR TRIP REPORT: Hear about the good (I’m still thinking about the pupusas!), the bat (that’s not a typo…), and the ugly of my hotel and Airbnb stays in El Salvador. Listen in for the inside scoop on some of the quite frankly terrible things I learned about El Salvador for expats, which mostly centers around the unfavourable tax situation. What about the visas? Tune in as I discuss all the available options for expats to live legally in El Salvador. Is Bukele really going to be giving out 5,000 “free passports,” as he proclaimed in a tweet? Hear what my El Salvadoran insiders had to say. How does the proposed $1 million “Freedom Visa” stack up to other regional citizenship-by-investment programs? Hear my thoughts on this pricey offer. What about company structures? I dissect whether El Salvador could be a viable option for forming offshore companies. How does El Salvador’s banking system stack up to its neighbours? Discover what I learned about finance in the nation. Lastly, hear my final analysis of whether El Salvador could serve as a potential Plan-B destination for expats.

There is a decentralized revolution occurring in health care, and now the concept of voluntary health sharing has emerged as a new avenue that freedom-minded expats can use to protect themselves and their families in the event of unexpected injury or illness. That's what today's guest, Andy Schoonover, joins me to discuss. Andy is the CEO and founder of CrowdHealth. The company uses a voluntary crowdfunding model to pay its users' medical bills and can even help them when they are overseas. TODAY’S CONVERSATION WITH ANDY SCHOONOVER Listen in to hear how Andy’s personal experience with the U.S. healthcare system led him to create CrowdFund as a solution to the outrageous prices and lack of transparency. Learn just why healthcare is so much more expensive in the U.S. than just about anywhere else on Earth. Why are Americans so obese in comparison to the rest of the world? Andy digs into the root causes of such poor health trends in the U.S., even while having some of the best doctors in the world. Uncover why Western medicine often misses the mark by focusing solely on treating symptoms while often neglecting the underlying health issues that cause them. Hear Andy and me explain why a strong community—like the one we have built here at Expat Money—is essential to a functioning healthcare system. Discover how the CrowdHealth model of voluntary health sharing was inspired by how similar communities, such as those in Kenya as well as the Amish.
