My guest on this episode is Lesley Marks, Chief Investment Officer (Equities) of Mackenzie Investments. Ms. Marks joined Mackenzie earlier this year but is a seasoned investment leader with more than 25 years of experience across asset and wealth management, including 22 years at the Bank of Montreal. She was a CIO in both Wealth Management and Asset Management at BMO and, prior to that, had an extensive successful track record as a portfolio manager of Canadian equity portfolios. Ms. Marks is also an active volunteer in her community, channelling her efforts towards causes she is passionate about. She is an Audit and Risk Committee Member for Kids Help Phone, an Advisory Board member for the Institute for Sustainable Finance and the Chair of a Foundation board. Ms. Marks is a CFA charter holder, holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and a BCom from Queen’s University.

My guest this week is Rick McCreary. Rick has over 35 years of experience in the resource sector both as a principal in executive and board roles with various corporates and a financial advisor in investment banking.
On the corporate side, Rick started his career with Gulf Canada as an exploration geophysicist later working with the Noranda-Falconbridge Group in engineering, technology development, and metals marketing; and most recently as Senior Vice President Corporate Development with Barrick Gold where he led over US$1.5B in non-core asset divestitures.
Prior to TD, Rick's most recent investment banking role was Head of CIBC’s Global Mining Investment Banking Group.
During his career, Rick has acted as principal or lead financial advisor in marquee transactions for Placer Dome, Barrick, African Barrick Gold (Acacia), Goldcorp, Kinross, Franco-Nevada, IAMGold, Evolution, Northern Star, Orezone, Noranda, Falconbridge, Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Teck, Lundin, Aur, Inmet, Ivanhoe, HudBay, Equinox, Quadra, Baffinland, and Dominion Diamond.
Rick holds an MBA in Finance and Strategy from McGill University, and an M.Sc. and B.Sc.Hons in Geological Engineering from Queen’s University.

My guest this week is Charles Hadid. Mr. Hadid is a Managing Director for Credit Suisse in the Global Consumer Sector, focusing on the food and beverage industry. Before joining Credit Suisse, Mr. Hadid started his career with Citi in their investment banking division. Charles Hadid is an engineer by training; he completed his Bachelor of Engineering at McGill University.

My guest this week is Charles Huot. Charles has over 20 years of experience in institutional equity sales, eight years with Morgan Stanley and 16 years with Bank of Montreal and Credit Suisse. He worked from different locations, amongst them Montreal, Toronto and New York.
Charles joined Morgan Stanley in 2013 as the relationship manager for Quebec-based Institutional accounts, specifically all the significant Pension funds, Mutual funds and insurance companies like CDPQ, PSP, Fiera, and CN Investment trust. He works in the Equity Division and regularly interacts with Investment Banking Division. Charles' main task is to advise large institutions on their investments and to make sure they buy or sell stocks at the right price.
In 2021, Charles will take on additional responsibilities within Morgan Stanley by collaborating on the expansion of Shareworks, a new Morgan Stanley division that offers intuitive solutions that help realize the full potential of stock plan compensation. It is a customizable solution for companies to empower their employees by making their finances a wellness source.
Mr. Huot earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from UQAM as well as Accounting from McGill University.
Charles is the father of three teenagers and enjoys practicing various sports in his free time, especially cycling, which he excelled at, at a younger age.

My guest this week is Neil Constable, he is the Head of Quantitative Research and Investments at Fidelity at their Boston Office. In this role, Mr. Constable is responsible for leading the QRI team within Asset Management, overseeing quant research for Fixed Income and Equity, and Fidelity’s Advanced Data and Analytics group. QRI is responsible for the management and development of new quantitative strategies and solutions while providing high-quality quantitative support to Fidelity’s investment professionals, ensuring they have access to the most relevant data and advanced quantitative analysis. Fidelity Investments, the American multinational financial services corporation, is one of the largest privately-held asset managers globally with 4.9 trillion dollars of assets under management and a combined total customer asset value of 6.7 trillion.
His specialties include Global Quantitative Equities and Fixed Income, Developed and Emerging Markets, Asset Allocation, Equity Derivatives and Volatility.
Before joining Fidelity last year, Mr. Constable spent 13 years at GMO, founded by the renowned value investor Jeremy Grantham, as a Partner and Head of Global Equity.
Mr. Constable earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary. He then went on to complete a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge. In addition to receiving his Doctorate Degree in Physics at McGill University, Mr. Constable was an MIT Post-Doctoral Fellow in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics.

My guest this week is Ryan Oldham, a portfolio manager in the Equity division at Fidelity Investments. Fidelity Investments is a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing, and other financial products and services to more than 26 million individuals, institutions, and financial intermediaries.Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Oldham was responsible for research that opportunistically searched for the best ideas across the Canadian market from 2013 to 2018. Previously, Mr. Oldham served as co-manager of Fidelity Select Natural Gas Portfolio from 2012 to 2013, and as manager of the fund from 2010 to 2012. He also covered the research of large-cap domestic and Canadian/International exploration and production companies from 2007 to 2013.Mr. Oldham earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business and his Master of Business Administration degree from McGill University. My guest this week is Claire Sturgess. Claire joined RBC Capital Markets' Global Investment Banking team in 2001. Claire is responsible for investment banking coverage of clients in the Consumer and Industrial sector, with a specific focus on Food and Beverages, Distribution, Business Services and Packaging. Claire has worked on a wide range of IPOs, equity and debt financings and mergers and acquisitions assignments for clients such as Brookfield Asset Management and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, Clearwater Seafoods, Information Services Corporation, High Liner Foods, Ritchie Bros. and Teranet. JP Blais is a Managing Director at BMO Capital Markets heading the North American FX trading team, based in Toronto. In his role, JP is responsible for overseeing the bank’s global exposure in FX products, daily trading of BMO’s largest and most active forward book and participating in strategic planning for the trading team. JP works closely with the management team to maximize the efficiency of our FX trading operation while striking to refine our customer offering.
JP has been a part of BMO’s FX team since 2005, holding various positions, he notably spent five years (2010-2015) in London where he successfully increased BMO’s footprint in the European FX market.
JP has a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.

My guest this week is Shaun Finnie. Shaun is a Senior Managing Director and Head of the Oil and Gas Acquisition and Divestiture advisory business for Evercore Partners. Prior to joining Evercore, Mr. Finnie was most recently a Managing Director and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions for Scotia Waterous in the U.S. Prior to that, he was an oil and gas banker at Goldman Sachs and began his career as a corporate lawyer specializing in oil and gas transactions.

Jonathan Kamel is an associate at Oaktree Capital Management in the Distressed Opportunities division at the New York office. He is one of 13 U.S. investment professionals in Oaktree’s $19 billion flagship fund. His experience extends to investment strategy focused on distressed/stressed and special situations, with a flexible mandate to invest across capital structures and industries, as well as in public and private markets.
Prior to joining Oaktree in 2019, Jonathan was a top bucket ranked investment banking analyst at Evercore Partners on their restructuring team at their New York office.
Jonathan earned a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University with Great Distinction. He graduated with First Class Honors in Investment Management and was on the Dean’s Honor List throughout all years. He was awarded the Dean’s Convocation Prize for being one of the top three graduating students at the university.

Mr. Kabla is Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Houlihan Lokey’s Technology, Media & Telecom (TMT) Group, co-leading a team responsible for driving the firm’s Corporate Finance effort in the sector. He has experience across a broad range of investment banking solutions and has been involved in over $200 billion of M&A and capital structure assignments in the media, entertainment, and communications industries. Mr. Kabla is based in the firm’s New York office.
Mr. Kabla’s clients have been major corporations and financial investors in North America, Europe, and Asia across a variety of sectors, including advertising, cable TV, broadband, cinema, content, digital media, fiber, information services, marketing services, music, OTT video, out-of-home entertainment, publishing, satellite communications, sports, talent agencies, television, wireless, and wireline.
Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey in 2018, Mr. Kabla was Global Head of Media & Telecoms at Nomura, one of Asia’s leading investment banks, and a member of its Global Investment Banking Executive Committee. He joined Nomura in 2010 in New York and held a variety of leadership roles across its global TMT practice.
Previously, Mr. Kabla spent a decade at Lehman and then, following Lehman Brothers Inc.’s sale, Barclays. He established its leading U.S. Out-of-Home Entertainment franchise with over $10 billion of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and committed financings in the 18 months following the 2008 Financial Crisis. Mr. Kabla started his career with TD Securities in Toronto, focused on Canadian TMT.
Mr. Kabla earned a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University with Great Distinction. He is a member of the French-American Foundation’s Transatlantic Forum and McGill University’s Desautels Global Experts Program. In addition, Mr. Kabla acts as an independent board member of certain private companies.

He has developed research coverage across a range of sectors such as Real Estate, Utilities, Infrastructure, Homebuilders, Building Products, Forestry & Paper, Printing & Publishing, Healthcare & Pharma, Aerospace & Defense, and Airlines.
He has also helped to expand the credit research geographic footprint from North America to include Europe and Emerging Markets and is also responsible for ESG integration across all corporate debt holdings. Jon has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and an MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. He is also a CFA charter holder.

Brett House is the Vice-President and Deputy Chief Economist at Scotiabank. Prior to joining Scotiabank in October 2016, Brett was Chief Economist at an alternative investment management start-up in Toronto and Global Strategist at Woodbine Capital Advisors, a New York-based global macro fund. Earlier in his career, Brett served as Principal Advisor in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General and as an Economist at the International Monetary Fund. He cut his teeth in financial markets at Goldman Sachs International in London and at the World Bank in Washington, DC. Brett is a Rhodes Scholar with degrees in economics from the University of Oxford and Queen’s University at Kingston. In addition, he has taught at Oxford University, McGill University, and the University of Cape Town, and has held research roles at Columbia University and Massey College at the University of Toronto. Brett sits on the investment committees of Pearson College and the Canadian Rhodes Scholars’ Foundation.
