  • Today on the Holistic GP podcast, we chat with Dr Mitchell Yass, creator of the Yass Method for diagnosing chronic pain.

The Yass Method looks at how the body shows symptoms to figure out which parts of the body are hurting and causing those symptoms. Chronic pain affects about 130 million Americans and about a billion people around the world. Misdiagnosis is the main cause of long-term pain. This is a direct result of the MRI being used for no good reason. He talks about how his beliefs are based on theoretical, clinical, and scientific evidence. I have helped a lot of people get rid of their pain, even after surgery didn't work.

Dr Yass has found that in more than 98% of cases, the source of pain is muscular, even if an MRI shows structural changes like herniated discs, stenosis, arthritis, or meniscal tears on the scan. Because muscular causes don't show up on the test, it's important. It can't be used to find the tissue that's hurting and making the person feel bad, so the MRI can't be used to find it.

Misophonia is the obsessive avoidance of or intense dislike of specific sounds. The most common sound to trigger the condition is the sound of chewing or lip-smacking. Other triggers include sniffing, yawning, sneezing, clearing the throat, coughing, and even breathing. People with misophonia tend to avoid any situation that involves those noises.
