  • “Worse than the total agony of being in love?” Liam Neeson cured that wee boy’s broken heart, and your second favourite Northern Irishman is here to cure yours.

Whether it’s a person or your instrument, falling in and out of love is one of the most difficult things we can go through as people. This week I’ll show just how similar the 2 are, and give you some tips to get you falling back in love quicker than Johnny Bravo.

  • This week’s episode comes from that lovely time vortex between Christmas and New Years, when we’re all full of chocolate and pints and time is but a construct.

Therefore, this week’s guest is perhaps the most special on of the podcast’s history, as I sit down with my mum whilst I’m home for an Irish Christmas.

She’ll tell you all about the challenges of raising a professional musician as someone who had zero connection with that world, including financial difficulties, class gaps and some very steep learning curves for all of us. If you’re a parent to a musician, this episode is the one for you.

  • This Christmas I’ve went and got you all the best present a flute player can ask for; another episode with my friend, and yours, French orchestral flute sensation Alice Brie.

This week, Alice is gonna give you all some golden tips for your practice covering a range of subjects including intonation, colour, posture, breathing, piccolo excerpts and whatever else came to our minds. It’s chaotic and full of actual flute playing, and best of all; it’s free. Considering Alice’s vast experience playing with some of the biggest orchestras in Europe, that’s no small thing, so drink it all in x

  • t’s the end of the NFA Bootleg Series 2024, and what an ending it is, dearest listeners. In what you might say saving the best for last (I couldn’t possibly comment), my guest this week is Flute Center CEO Julian Rose.

I was like a child in a sweetshop in this one, as I got to pick the brains of a business and flute encyclopaedia in Julian. We chat about his own journey and new part ownership in Flute Center, before letting me ask the questions burning inside me. Has Chris Martin ever bought a flute? What’s the most expensive flute in the shop? Has Emmanuel Pahud ever tested flutes with an NBA star?

You’ll find it all out in here, you lucky wee ducks.

  • Do not adjust your television sets; you’re reading that name in the title correctly. My guest this week is beatbox flutist Greg Patillo.

A man that needs no further introduction; just let me add that having watched Greg’s videos and listened to PROJECT Trio’s albums on loop throughout my teen years, this was a special one for me personally.

This was the most fun I’ve had on an episode in a very long time, and it’s a little longer than usual for that reason. Indugle me; I couldn’t cut anything. I’m only human x

  • We’re over the halfway point of the 2024 NFA Bootleg Series, today coming from the 31st floor of a very fancy San Antonio hotel as I sit down with Iranian flute (and history) expert; Mehrdad Gholami.

Mehrdad and I have been chatting for years online, so to finally get to meet was a blast. This episode felt like two mates chatting away, and there happened to be a camera. Pure Inline G Core.

We chatted everything the American Flute School and Mehrdad’s brand new record, to our shared love of Sankyo and contemporary music.

  • The second instalment of the NFA Convention Series is out and I am spoiling you all rotten!

This week’s guest is soloist, University of Iowa professor, recording artist and all-round flute superstar; Nicole Esposito.

I’ve been a fan of Nicole’s for 13 (!) years and I finally got to meet her and record a wee episode together. She chats about everything from how she judges competitions and her impressive NFA stats to her two recent flute and harp albums and studying with some of the greatest female flutists in US music history (amongst many other things).

It’s a brilliant episode, I enjoyed this so much and I know you lot will too, you lucky wee ducks.
