October 10th was World Mental Health day. Usually, I wouldn't even think about this day and it would go by without a thought. But that is not true as of this year. I've had debilitating anxiety that has manifest for me this year and it is very difficult to manage as a mom during a pandemic. I have shared our journey with adoption, but I've never shared why or how we got to the choice of adoption and what the process was really like. I open the flood gates of information about my life for the last six years. I'm vulnerable about IUI, IVF, trauma, PTSD, international adoption, and foster care adoption. I get real about the pain of trying to have a family and not being successful.
I was struggling one day and sat down and wrote my story as a cathartic process. I thought maybe sharing my story will give insight to those thinking about starting a family, assuming having a family is easy, or aren't aware of the struggles of having a family.

I have been hearing talk about shame recently with regard to black lives matter, politics, and our choices. This really got me to thinking about nutritional shame. We shame ourselves for breaking from our diet for one meal. We shame ourselves for having that one cup of ice cream. We shame ourselves for having a basket of french fries. How do we stop that little voice in our head from dismantling our very beings because of what we ate? How do we get to a place where food doesn't cause shame?

I accidentally started reaping the benefits of a morning work out and I had no idea that these benefits would even come from a morning workout.
