  • This episode was a reflective one, with Chidi and Soore expressing their feelings and thoughts about the year so far. A mix of being ā€œGratefulā€ for the ā€œtroublesomeā€ year.

How studying this year was different in lockdown: On the bright side, they could live wherever they wanted and save on accommodation costs, different exam schedules. How different it was meeting people virtually and not getting that cosmopolitan feel while studying in the UK.

Thereā€™s no one size fits all way to manage studying and working. So our guests advise for incoming students to know what their universityā€™s module structure is like and decide how they choose to work.

    Planning šŸ‘šŸ½ for šŸ‘šŸ½a šŸ‘šŸ½vacation šŸ‘šŸ½ is so important!

Applying for job roles once you get started. Targeting relevant small companies, network with some of your more experienced colleagues.

Networking gives you access to people, opportunities and ideas. The confidence needed from networking can be gotten by learning more about it and doing more of it. Practice.

In this episode, we discuss the advantages that networking has given us, how you can be more deliberate about it as post-graduate students (like joining professional organisations and being active), the importance of networking upwards and the benefits of giving and taking in networking relationships.

  • Wondering when you need to start applying for those jobs, starting a business or applying for a PhD?

Transitioning from a postgraduate degree is not as straightforward as some imagine. This episode sheds light on different avenues you can take after your degree.

In the UK, planning your next steps after postgraduate studies, ideally, should begin at the start of your studies. We cover 4 themes: Graduate schemes, experienced hires, entrepreneurship route and PhD transitions.

We cover each track and how you should approach them, mentors, support system and accountability partners, encouragement, motivation, openness to the right people, LinkedIn visibility, reaching out to people to point you in the direction of opportunities, the role of careers services and more.

Some Urban Nigerian words like "jaiye" , "ginger" and "gbam!" were mentioned. Jaiye means enjoyment. Ginger means drive. Gbam! means you hit the nail on the head.

We hope you enjoy and learn some practical things. Please share and subscribe. Send us messages as we would really love to hear your thoughts, ideas or questions because we do this for you and want you to be a part of the creation!
