Are you focused or merely busy? Jones Loflin sits down with Kevin to reveal the secret of focus, inspired by honeybees. Jones introduces six essential "permissions" that individuals must grant themselves and emphasizes their particular importance for leaders, who not only need to practice these permissions personally but also guide their team members to recognize and adopt them. These permissions include: The Permission to Prioritize ā Bees prioritize maintaining the hive before making honey. How can we identify our most critical goals? The Permission to Plan ā Similar to how bees prepare for changing conditions, how can we proactively set ourselves up for success? The Permission to Be Unavailable ā Constant accessibility can hinder productivity. How can leaders create an environment conducive to deep work? The Permission to Recharge ā Bees rest more than they work. What lessons can we draw from this behavior? The Permission to Change ā Often, we stick to habits that are no longer beneficial. How can we embrace necessary changes? The Permission to Be Consistent ā Although change is crucial, success frequently arises from disciplined, repeated actions.

In this special edition of The Evolving Workplace series, Wayne Turmel explores the three dominant work models that have emerged in the post-pandemic world: fully remote, fully in-office, and hybrid work. While the debate continues over which model is best, Wayne takes an objective look at the pros, cons, and realities of each approach.
From cost savings and productivity in remote-first organizations to the structure and collaboration of in-office setupsāand the often messy compromise of hybrid workāthis episode dives deep into what works, what doesnāt, and how leaders can make the best decisions for their teams.
Key Takeaways:
Remote-First Work:
Allows for talent-first hiring without geographical constraints. Increases flexibility and engagement for self-motivated employees. Challenges: branding, measuring productivity, and maintaining team culture.In-Office Work:
Facilitates faster communication and relationship-building. Provides structured onboarding and training. Challenges: high costs, limited hiring pool, and less flexibility.Hybrid Work:

Are you subsidizing your business success at the cost of your own well-being? Andy Brown defines this as emotional overdraft and just like a financial overdraft, these behaviors might work in the short term but become unsustainable and costly over time. Andy explains to Kevin that while this behavior is common, it can lead to stress, burnout, and reduced personal and professional effectiveness. Andy shares habitual behaviors, or "drivers," that contribute to emotional overdraft, such as urgency, overcommitment, and lack of trust. He also suggests that work-life balance is a helpful expression, he advocates for integrating work as part of life and recognizing seasons of focus and rest. Further, he provides some examples so we can mitigate emotional overdraft.
