Taking care of our pets is something most pet parents take great pride in; however, we don’t always plan for the “what if’s”. Thinking about what would happen to our pets if we were no longer able to care for them is SO important. Yet, no one wants to think about death and dying, but if something happened to you and you were in the hospital or worse, who will care for your pets? I, Julie Marty-Pearson, dive into this topic with my friend, fellow podcaster, and Fur Mom Rebecca Johnson.

Rebecca shares her heartfelt journey through the loss of her husband and the subsequent intertwining of joy and challenge with her canine companions mirrors the complex bond we all share with our pets. As we unraveled Rebecca's story, we were reminded of the individual personalities pets have, how they align with ours, and the importance of cherishing these connections, especially during life's unexpected turns.

This episode transcends mere pet tales, touching upon the profound topic of pet contingency planning, a subject close to Rebecca’s heart given her own battle with cancer. She opens up about her own arrangements for her dogs, Vegas and Caroline, fostering an important conversation about securing our pets' futures. We advocate for recognizing the value of rescue animals as integral parts of our families, hoping to inspire listeners to consider the well-being of their four-legged friends in times of change. Rebecca's experiences, combined with my personal insights, underscore the emotional depths of our pets and the need for thoughtful stewardship of their lives when they too face loss and upheaval.

Rebecca Johnson is the vibrant voice behind 'Love is Not Dead, Just My Husband,' a podcast crafted to uplift and empower widows on their unique paths of healing and rediscovery. As a widow herself, Rebecca has faced some of life's toughest challenges with unwavering resilience, including overcoming multiple losses and living with an incurable cancer. Through her podcast, Rebecca weaves personal triumphs with heartfelt stories, diving into the transformative journey of widowhood finding joy in life and loss. With her infectious 'Widow Your Way' attitude, she breaks down stereotypes and offers a welcoming space for widows to find comfort, strength, and i

Teresa Adamo and Jennifer Williams-Cordova, children's book authors with a knack for capturing the essence of these moments, join me for a conversation that's sure to inspire. Their tales, born from the companionship of pets like Indy, weave a tapestry of creativity and community spirit that finds a home in the hearts of families far and wide.

Bakersfield, California, isn't just a backdrop for Teresa and Jennifer's stories; it's a character in itself, echoing through the pages with the historic Bakersfield Sound music. If you're an animal lover, particularly a dog enthusiast, then you will surely appreciate the profound love and inspiration author J Wynn Rousuck draws from our furry friends. Our latest podcast episode explores how her childhood experiences attending dog shows with her AKC judge father blossomed into a deep appreciation for dogs, influencing her life and her writing.
Rousuck's narrative is rich with heartwarming tales of her adventures in the world of dogs. One particularly touching recollection is of rescuing her adorable dog, Zippy, from Baltimore's rough streets. The experiences with Zippy, a dog that became a beloved member of her family, influenced her storytelling, shaping the quirky Boston terrier character in her latest novel, "Please Write: A Novel in Letters" and revealing how dogs often provide vital support during tough times.

The episode shines a light on the unique influence her mentor, a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, had on her character development and storytelling. Rousuck's background as a theater critic and her love for researching famous pet owners add another layer of depth to her narrative.
One highlight of the episode is the exploration of Rousuck's book, a story narrated through letters between two dogs and their owner. This novel is not only a heartwarming story of the bond between humans and dogs but also a profound journey through loss and grief. The author's reading of an excerpt from the book is a powerful testament to the impact of the story on its readers, including the publisher who adopted a rescue dog after reading it.

Ever wondered what it's like to foster a litter of kittens? Journey with me, your host, Julie Marty Pearson, as I share a deeply personal tale about my own adorable fur family. You'll hear about my experience raising six two-week-old kittens and the challenges that came with their round-the-clock care. But first, I’ll account the journey that lead me to fostering this litter and how a tiny kitten named Binx is the reason why I ended up at the shelter on the right day to help these kittens in need.

Fostering kittens is an adventure, indeed! Have you ever tried to transition a kitten from bottle-feeding to solid food? I'll recount that roller-coaster ride, especially the struggles with little George, the runt of the litter, who showed no interest in wet food. But amidst the trials and tribulations, there were countless moments of joy, batches of formula, plates of food, and bags of litter, and finding my forever friend in Pumpkin the calico kitten.

On Pumpkin’s first birthday, we'll reflect on this incredible journey together. You'll learn about the importance of volunteering, donating, and fostering, or adopting animals in need. It's more than a tale of love and loss; it's a call to action. After all, what could be more rewarding than opening your heart and home to a pet in need? So, let's celebrate Pumpkin's birthday with a heartfelt message of love from me and my fur family to you and yours. Join me in this unforgettable journey of love, loss, and new beginnings!
