In this episode, I sat down with Chris Hinshaw - coach to hundreds of athletes around the world, most notably the top finishers at the CrossFit Games the past several years. He's coached Mat Fraser, Rich Froning, Katrín Davíðsdóttir... the list goes on. We talk about how he started coaching all of these wonderful athletes and how he had to prove himself to get there. You'll quickly see why Chris is a thought-leader in the aerobic/endurance arena - he's a wealth of knowledge and never stops learning. His attention to detail is really what blew my mind and made me want to start intentionally tracking my fitness progress to improve and get better.
In our chat, we spoke about how Chris tested a new carbon fiber sole from Adidas. Here are the results of his test using the data collected from his Garmin watch.

This episode was recorded in July of 2019 😮 . However, in this episode I spoke with Clemens Limberg, formerly of BoxRox.com. I say formerly because Clemens is no longer with BoxRox, he is actually traveling across the country of Australia (lucky guy). The main points we discuss in the episode are high traffic blogs - BoxRox.com at the time was getting 1.3 million views per month and we dig into topics like analytics, google amp, and Alexa page rank.

Ben Aiken is a fitness trainer, certified CrossFit coach, and all around fantastic human being. We sat down and spoke about his journey through fitness, coaching, and fitness for the everyday desk worker.
He gives me some great tips on how to deal with stress, being tight, and most importantly - SLEEP. We get into a lot of great information for people just getting into fitness and for those who have been doing it for a long time.
One great thing he mentions in the interview is the WHOOP fitness tracker.
When we started talking about movement and Capoeira, Ben mentions is Ido Portal.

In this last episode of my Creator Series, I sat down with Wes Bos to discuss how he's built a career on offering web development courses. We discuss a wide array of things like how he got there and what keeps him motivated. Wes basically defines a "Content Creator" and someone that has truly learned how to make a living by doing it.
You can find Wes on Twitter or his website. He also has a podcast called Syntax.fm

The co-founder of Basecamp and creator of Ruby on Rails is with me on the show today. David Heinemeier Hansson and I sat down to talk about how he creates, works out, his philosophy on work and life, and what's it's like to write 4 books! Side note: this episode may change the way you think about a lot of things. It sure did for me.
I'm not going to write a lot of show notes for this episode because you just have to listen. It's a great conversation where David dives deep into each question I ask him.

This is the third installation of my Creators Series where I interview web professionals who consistently create content for the web. I sat down one early Monday morning to chat with Dave Rupert about life in Austin and at his company, Paravel. Dave is also the co-host of the Shop Talk Show podcast which has been around for 8 years now. Dave is about as genuine as they come and it really shows in this interview.
One of the most interesting things we talk about is open source projects. He details a few examples of how they can really be a time commitment. I also really enjoyed his take on learning web programming plus the trajectory of his company and the type of clients they get (which are incredible).

This is the second episode in the Creators Series where I chat with content creators from across the web. Adam Wathan is no stranger to creating products that provide real value for web developers. With the recent release of his latest book, we chat about how he co-wrote with another author, testing your ideas before launching them, and how he got his start as a self-employed full stack developer.
We had a great chat all about creating content, Tailwind css, his podcast, and even his history with competitive weightlifting!
One thing that really stood out for me was how he likes to "work in public" in order to market his ideas. This idea of working on something out in the open can give you instant validation and help to shift the direction of your idea. Something I think I'll start doing more often!

I sat down with full-stack developer, Scott Tolinski. He's the creator of Level Up Tutorials and host of the web development podcast, Syntax.fm. In our chat we discover what led Scott to start making video tutorials and how he grew his YouTube following to over 250K. He tells me about his break dancing career (super interesting) and what he's working on as a full time, self employed content creator.
This is the first in a series of podcasts I call the "Creator Series" where I interview web professionals from around the globe who make a living on the products and content they create.
During my talk with Scott, we discuss how he got his start, dealing with negative comments on the web, growing a YouTube channel, converting his audience to paying members, break dancing and fitness, and my personal favorite, "Dad Strength".
Enjoy!

Talk about turning points in your life - Andy had a soccer injury in high school which is how he ended up at a chiropractor. But it wasn't his back that was hurting, it was his knee! The chiropractor instantly helped his knee feel better - and this was the turning point that made him say, "I want to do this". That single moment shaped the entire path for Dr. Andy Wright's life.
During our conversation we cover the typical injuries that happen for people with desk jobs as well as active people who work out regularly. Andy offers his insight into which parts of the spine are often injured the most as well as how to protect those areas.
A few of the things we talk about during the show are foam rollers, lacrosse balls, and even a kneeling chair.
Nutrition is another topic we dive into. Dr. Andy does a specific test to find food allergies. This test identifies foods that can cause inflammation in your body. The typical culprits being dairy, nuts, eggs, grains, soy. It's an interesting perspective on what food can do to our bodies and why we should care.

Education is something we all need, but few of us want to do. Mark Johnson's company, Pathwright, makes online education easy for anyone to do. Mark's company can be found at pathwright.comOne of his side projects that we talk about is: tiltmaps.comWe also chat about the Myers Briggs personality test and EnneagramIf you're in the world of Javascript, we also chat about React, GraphQl.

If you've been around the web industry for a while, you may have heard of Dan Mall. He's a creative director, designer, and overall great guy. We dive into some great topics like what motivates him and keeps him going, how he structures his very busy work day, how he prices his work, and the "Hollywood" business model.
During the call we reference a few things like his podcast that he used to run with Jason Blumer. When talking about optimizing your day, Dan mentions Benjamin Hardy, who can be found here.

Will started as a web programmer back in the early 2000's. Then he discovered the power of video when it comes to marketing and branding. He's never looked back since. We dive into his incredible story with some really great insights toward the end of the show about living a productive life without stress. He also describes how he has built his client list and how he says no to the wrong clients.
One of the biggest lessons to take from this episode is being selective with your clients. Don't take on every client that has a check in their hand, without first making sure their values align with yours. This leads to a much less stressful work environment. So often in the web industry we don't do this. We live a fear based career whereas the question, "how will I get paid next month" constantly lives in the back of your mind. This fear can be damaging and counter-productive to doing your best work.
As always, please give us a review if you enjoyed the episode and subscribe in your favorite podcast listening app.

We get a little deep in this episode - and I love it. Have you ever had a breaking point in life that made you completely change something about yourself or your situation? It was probably pretty tough right? Or maybe you're still thinking about something you want to change but can't get the courage to do it. Well, in this episode we get into all that and more.
“Men’s natures are alike; it is their habits that separate them.” –
ConfuciusVision x Dissatisfaction + First Steps
What does that mean? It's the vision you see that you ultimately want times the dissatisfaction you have from the current reality. This is what can give you the motivation to make the first steps toward change.
SisyphusA pilgrims progressOne of the last points we bring up that I think is especially applicable to anyone in the web industry is selling something doesn't exist yet OR something you don't exactly know how to do yet. It plays a big part in making changes to yourself and growing your skillset. It's also not that talked about in our industry :) I'd love to hear your opinion on this.

In this episode, I called up Noah Ohlsen to chat about his recent CrossFit Atlantic Regionals Victory and hear more about how he trains for competitions, his nutrition schedule and tracking, and his recovery process. We try to distill his favorite methods into something the everyday athlete can do in their own life.
Show NotesThere's always doubt that can arise when trying to be the best. When preparing for a big event, butterflies are natural. They occur before the event for Noah, but once he's there - it's game time and he's ready to go.Noah's sleep routine includes using special glasses from Felix Gray that block blue light from devices (phones, TV's, etc) and help your circadian rhythm. When tracking food, Noah uses the MyFitnessPal app to record his macros. He realizes that recording and tracking every single thing you eat and do can make you go crazy (especially for the non-athlete) so he tries to not put too much pressure on it.Noah's capacity for work (aerobic capacity, etc) has greatly improved since he started training. His "Grace" time was around 5 minutes when he started CrossFit. It's now just over 1 minute! For reference: Grace is a workout for time where the athlete performs 30 Clean and Jerks.Noah has over 25K YouTube subscribers. After receiving a tip from a friend who is a pro "YouTuber" he decided to start a channel and promote his Videos. The "Happy But Hungry" slogan came from his coach, who said Noah always had a sh*t eating grin. Noah said, "Sure, I'm happy. But that doesn't mean I'm satisfied. I'm still hungry for more." From there the slogan was born.Noah's favorite recovery techniques include:
Electric Stem (Marc Pro)Normatec (to flush the "junk" - he also recommends going for a walk to flush the toxins)Romwod - everyday stretching to keep limber and help with recoveryEating properly (and enough Carbs)Sleep! - Vis mere
