Navigating the Financial Landscape as a Creative with Hannah Cole (Artist, Tax pro, and Founder of Sunlight Tax).
Most creative brains arenât skilled at taxes and accounting. Taxes often feel confusing, scary, and overwhelming, but they donât have to. In the episode, weâll share insights and advice for creatives on managing their finances and taxes.
Hannah Cole, founder of Sunlight Tax, is a tax expert who specializes in working with creative businesses and mission-driven solopreneurs. A long-time working artist herself, sheâs helped tens of thousands of self-employed people skill up with accessible tax and money education, through her Money Bootcamp program, speaking engagements from Florida to Alaska, and on the Sunlight podcast.
Hannah is great at teaching taxes because sheâs messed it all up, and been in the âbad place.â She doesn't teach from a place of superiority or judgment, but from a place of understanding.
We discuss the importance of tax education for creative professionals. Hannah shares her journey of transitioning from being an artist to starting her own tax business. She highlights the myths and stumbling blocks that artists and freelancers often face when it comes to money.
Hannah also discusses the challenges of finding balance and setting boundaries between her artistic and accounting pursuits.

The Subtle art of not yelling....at yourself.
The voices in our head can get really loud. There's no shortage of opportunities for the internal voices to share unsolicited thoughts.
Where does the voice come from? Why does it get so loud? How does it impact your life and your work?
We share our experience with the voices and how we've managed to turn the yelling into a whisper - most of the time - so we don't get derailed.---

Your Core Brilliance is That Thing under everything else about you. It's a really helpful piece of information, so Jan is on a mission to make knowing it accessible to everyone.
Meet Jan Black, a seasoned creative powerhouse who's moved through a vibrant career in writing, poetry, art, teaching, speaking, composing, and branding.
While her books have sold nearly a million copies, some of her finest writing has been for the eyes of a very few. Her career has been a series of yeses to projects in fields where she had no experience but a decent amount of impact. She's all about the soul of things, yet unless it works on the street, she's not satisfied. She was building brands long before she called it that.
The process of defining people's Core Brilliance and building it out into their work has held her attention for over twenty years. Today, her attention has turned to a project called âOnly While I'm Humanâ that enriches your turn at being human. She sees us all as The Darlings of What Will Be and devotes herself to creating enrichments for us as we take our turn at being human. First on the roster of enrichments? Core Brilliance, of course.

The Holidays are great, but they are also really weird....especially if you're a creator or entrepreneur.
We've all made collective agreement to slow down and recoup for a bit.
But sometimes we're actually pulled towards using the extra down time to get ahead.
How do we best navigate this?
Do we hunker down and get some work done? Or do we take the foot off the gas and slow down?
Spoiler alert...it depends...
