The Word with Miranda are joined by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, a husband and wife, writing and directing team who discovered the real-life story that inspired their film by searching the remote corners of the internet and landed on a coupon blog that talked about the coupon caper. Gaudet & Pullapilly started to create a niche, collaborating on true stories, most notably the acclaimed, Emmy-nominated feature documentary, The Way We Get By. They then moved into the narrative space with their feature, Beneath The Harvest Sky. It was only natural for their first studio film to come from this same mould.
Gita recalls how she discovered the stunning story of the multi-million-dollar coupon scam. Gita and Aron talk about their comedy film QUEENPINS (now streaming on Amazon Prime) how they came across this true story, taking creative liberties in grounding the comedy, collaborating, forging a new path in Hollywood and so much more.

I did my first party at Bannerman Road Junior School.” Deli built his first soundsystem in Kingston, Jamaica, where he lived from 1977 – 1985, returning home with a box full of the new U.S club sounds. At that time the Bristol scene’s key players were “The Wild Bunch, FBI Crew, Soul Twins, Dirty Den…

The 1st episode of Afrikan Queens sets up the series & explains the importance of sharing this rarely heard of history. We launch the series on International Womens Day as the Queens & Sheroes we will feature are wonderfully inspiring & great role models. So often black history, which is everyones history, focuses just on the trafficking of enslaved Afrikans and the victimisation whereas this series is a celebration of women. We have collaborated with a community project called Razana Africa to educate, empower & inspire. https://www.razanaafrika.com/ In Ep 1 we meet Christelle Pellecuer & Dr Shawn Sobers, experts in Black History and the founders of Razana Africa. They give an overview of some of the Queens that will be featured in the series & explain how they used prominent black women from the community, like the Deputy Mayor of Bristol Asher Craig & Europe’s 1st Rastafarian Councillor to select a Queen/Sheroe that that resonated with & they were then dressed & made up and a beautiful photographic Exhibition came to life. In the series we will hear from some of these women who also researched their Queen will share their findings. All too often theres very little documented and takes a lot to uncover & discover the true history of these amazing women. Miranda Rae meets with Author Caleb Azumah Nelson
OPEN WATER by Caleb Azumah Nelson is a stunning, shattering debut novel about two Black British artists falling in and out of love in contemporary London. It explores race, love, masculinity, violence, vulnerability and what it means to be a person in a world that sees you only as a black body – with a soulful intensity that will make your heart race. I inhaled it in one sitting and I’m on my second reading now, this time with the incredible music from the story playing in my headphones as I mull over Caleb’s words!
Caleb has also been shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story prize – winner announced 6 October. Previous alumni include Zadie Smith and Hilary Mantel.

Tim Kindberg's research interests lie in applying ubiquitous and mobile computing technologies to new kinds of digital media platforms.
He is the founder and creator of social video platforms Vorb and Nth Screen, and has powered other creative installations and platforms through Matter 2 Media. He also consults for arts companies and corporations through Tim Kindberg consulting.
He has several decades of experience in building novel platforms, starting from his work on cloud computing in the 1980s, before the web existed.
Tim is a Bristol author who has recently self-published a book with strong local links.
Vampires of Avonmouth is gothic sci-fi set in the future between Bristol and West Africa.
The link to Bristol is strong if tongue-in-cheek. Avonmouth has become a weird mega-city in 2087, except that the Spillers grain silo is still there; Bristol languishes (only Arnos Vale gets a mention); and "Super Mare", as it is known in the book, has become the heart of darkness where the savages are robots. The two scientists are Dirac and Higgs - named for the Nobel prize-winning physicists who, I'm sure you know, both went to school in Bristol. Oh, and there's a dog called Coleridge.
2087, Avonmouth.city. Everything changes for David when a ship arrives from West Africa, carrying a vampire who hungers not for blood but mental energy. As she hunts those around him, David struggles to protect her ultimate prey - the woman he falls in love with, despite himself. For David is carrying his own monstrous secret inside. If he fails, she will lose her mind. Literally.
This is a story of mental enslavement – by systems of oppression, and by parts of our own selves.
