It's been 12 years since the Prospective Surveillance Model was first published. This model saves our patients money, can prevent functional decline, & has changed our entire paradigm of how we treat people with cancer.
So why is it still so rare to see it implemented?
Buckle up, OncoPT, because there’s a lot to cover today. But it’s soooooo needed.
In this replay episode, Dr. Nicole Stout dives into why the Prospective Surveillance Model hasn’t taken off yet, plus what we MUST do to integrate it fully into standard cancer rehab today._______________

If you ask any rehab professional what scares them the most about oncology patients, their answer 99.9% of the time will be bone metastases.
And this fear is keeping rehab professionals from actually helping their patients with cancer (even those without bone mets).
The fact is patients with bone metastases benefit from rehab, from exercise, & from physical activity. High-quality evidence overwhelmingly supports these benefits & demonstrates that there are very safe ways to administer & dose movement for patients with bone metastases. Dr. Susan Maltser joins us in this week’s replay episode to discuss HOW.

Oncology physical therapy is a SIGNIFICANT departure from what most people know & expect from physical therapy. Think about it: cancer itself is a red flag condition you likely learned about & how you should refer the patient with cancer back to their referring provider.
And that is totally antithetical to how you as an OncoPT approach your patient with cancer.
Most PTs won’t even touch a person with cancer. They might even call you crazy.
But that’s what makes you the perfect OncoPT.
You probably already knew this, but you now need a path forward to that next, bigger, better version of OncoPT you can become. Tune in to learn your exact path forward.
