Exciting episode today, tune in to hear some great conversations! Our only listener in Rhode Island, Cole Crosby, also happens to be a really cool guy and a super fast runner. We have him on the show to talk about what he's been up to in the world of ultrarunning and what his future plans are. We go over race results from Pinhoti 100 which we somehow missed talking about on the last episode. Then we discuss the incredible thing that happened at Tunnel Hill this year, Courtney Olsen set a women's 50 mile world record!!! We go over the results from the Puerto Vallarta by UTMB 100 mile and 100K, U.S. runners did pretty well there! We cover Fuzzy Fandango 50K which has turned into a fall classic of sorts at the Mohican State Forest, the gem of Ohio trail running. A new self supported and overall FKT was set on the AZ Trail. Some sort of record was set by two Americans who did a sub 24 hour 100 miler in Antarctica. We end the show talking about Aravaipa taking over the Endurance Race Series in Colorado and all the great things that Jamil and the crew have done for ultrarunning in the U.S.

Tune in to hear about the conclusion of the Backyard World Championships! We also discuss the big party...errr...race at Javelina Jundred where David Roche put on a clinic. We dive into results from No Business 100, Tussey Mountainback 50, Truth or Consequences 50K, and Weekend at Burney 24 and 12 hour race. We let everyone know they can nominate people for the FKT of the year (link below). An ultrarunner thought he set the FKT on the Grand Teton route and it was his life goal for the last 4 years but there is a huge issue with his attempt. We pay homage to Julia "Hurricane" Hawkins who passed away recently at the age of 108, she took up running as a sprinter at the age of 100 and was pretty fast! Finally we talk about a new and impressive record that was set over the weekend.

Tonight we start off with some good news that Johnny is back in action! After many obstacles in the last year and a half he is finally cleared to start building some endurance. Then we follow up and expand on some stuff that we talked about on the last episode. After that we dive into the results from Moab. Then we deep dive into the Bigs Backyard Ultra World Championships which is up to over 60 countries now! Belgium is in currently in first overall and the only country with runners still going and three of them tied the record of 108 yards (set last year by Harvey Lewis) as we are recording. As I am typing these show notes the three runners decided to all call it quits after 110 yards, that’s almost 460 miles!! We go over race results from the California Fall Classic 100K and 55K, Mines of Spain 100 and 100K, Grand Trail des Templiers 100K, Diagonale des Fous 100, Stone Steps 50K, Laurel Highlands 50K, Pony Express 100, Bimblers Bluff 50K, Uwharrie 100, and Delirium Ultra 24 hour. We talk about two more FKTs that were recently set. We end the show talking about which of AJWs 2024 predictions have come true. Strava club link now in the list of socials below!

Tonight we kick it off by talking about Canal Corridor 100 and our friend Stephanie Campbell’s second place finish! Then we discuss the history of Indiana Trail 100 along with what a great community surrounds the race and go over the results from this year’s event. We also go over results from Oil Creek 100, Kodiak 100, and the Heartland 100. Then we talk about Bryon Powell from iRunFar who just competed in and won the Ultra Trail Gobi 400K stage race in western China. In addition we discuss race results from Cape Fear 24 hour race where costume chic was out there representing. We dive into a new 50K in Cascade Locks, Oregon called Angel’s Rest where they just had the inaugural running and now we both want to run it. Also, Free State Trail Run 40 miler was over the weekend and they had one finisher, spoiler alert she took first place overall. Nedd Brockman finished his 1,000 mile run in 12 and a half days. He didn’t break the world record but he did raise at least 2.6 million dollars for homelessness in Australia. Pretty impressive accomplishment all around. There is a fundraiser being done in western NC at the Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival December 7th and as we talk about some of our favorite ultrarunners will be out there. Proceeds will go to residents and businesses whose homes were damaged or lost due to hurricane Helene. We end with a guy that did a run during hurricane Milton, basically running through the storm, there is always one!

This week we start off by giving everyone in Florida our well wishes during this tough time with Hurricane Milton moving through. Then we discuss Courtney Dauwalter continuing her dynasty of high profile race victories by winning Nice Cote d’ Azur (UTMB) 100 mile and she was not far off from first place overall. Then we go over the Saddles 100 and 50 mile races in Prescott, AZ where two of our friends and favorite Ohio trail runners Chad Trumbo and Jay Smithberger competed in those races and did very well. We also discuss race resultrs from Cuyamaca 100K, Spooner’s Cove 50K, DC Peaks 50, Hennepin 100, Shawnee 50/50, Arkansas Traveller 100, and Yankee Springs Fall 50K. There is a new self-supported FKT on the 1,444 mile Buckeye trail. We take a look at Nedd Brockman from Australia who is trying to break Yiannis Kouros’s long standing 1,000 mile record of 10 days 10 hours 30 minutes and 36 seconds. Nedd is 6 days in and 900K deep so he has some ground to make up in the next 4 days. We end the show talking about the Taco Bell 50K race in Denver that Sage Canaday participated in recently. Sounds like you need an iron stomach to get that done. Johnny revisits a 50K that he did with some friends in Columbus where they stopped at multiple breweries throughout the run.

Late release this week but better late then never! We start off talking about Mike Wardian completing his Appalachian Trail through run in 60 days. He had to battle the aftermath of hurricane Helene in order to get it done. We discuss the devastation of the hurricane and also the Yeti folks who pitched in and helped the people of Damascus after the Yeti 100 was cancelled. Then we look into the 153 mile Spartathlon road race in Greece. Camille Herron was back to defend her course record from last year but she had a lot going on with the wiki controversy. She DNF'd and we haven't heard much about why but I can imagine she was mentally distracted. We go over race results from The Bear 100, Dick Collins Firetrails, Flagstaff Sky Peaks, Mt. Taylor 50K, West Line Winder 50K, and Heritage 50K. Meredith Hughes set a new women's self-supported FKT on the Colorado trail west to east collegiate west. Courtney Dauwalter is racing in France this weekend and will be going for the outright win at Nice Cote d'Azure 115K which is no longer a Western States golden ticket race.

Huge episode tonight! A lot to talk about. Farley gives a run down of his experience running Mountain Lakes 100 over the weekend. We both are in awe of Tara Dower’s accomplishment setting the overall FKT on the Appalachian Trail, it’s truly impressive. We go over race results from Mountain Lakes 100. Then we talk about one of the icons of ultrarunning, Anton Krupicka, who came out of nowhere and took second at Grindstone 100. We go over the results of the other races at Grindstone. Also talk about the young gun Hans Troyer who ran Grindstone 100K and it was his first race since taking 10th at Black Canyon 100K, where he ended up in the hospital afterwards with rabdo. Unfortunately Grindstone didn’t go his way and he ended up with a DNF. We then talk about a possible shady maneuver the first place runner did to block the second place runner during a sprint to the finish at Mammoth Trail Fest 26K which was a Golden Trail World Series Event with major prize money on the line. We also go over the results from Mammoth Trail Fest races, the Barkley Fall Classic, the Cowboy 200, Pikes Peak Ascent and Pikes Peak (not quite) Marathon. Max King and Hayden Hawks both had some success at events overseas. We go over results from Dances with Dirt (Hell, MI), Flagstaff to Grand 100, IMTUF 100, and there is a new self-supported FKT on the Colorado Trail. Finally we end the show with the breaking news / controversy about Camille Herron and her husband + coach Conor Holt who got busted editing the wiki pages of other elite ultrarunnners to make them look less significant and editing her own page to seem more elite.

Early release this week as Farley has an out of town race coming up this weekend. We start off today with results from Tor Des Geants, a beast of a race in Italy. Then we discuss Run Rabbit Run which was the 100 mile main event of the weekend in the U.S. We also talk about RUT 50K, a sky race in Big Sky, Montana. Then we talk about Remi Bonnet setting the Mt. Tam Hill Climb FKT right here in the Bay Area (Mill Valley). That FKT has been held by Jim Walmsley since 2017. Remi was in town for the Headlands 27K which is part of the Golden Trail World Series. We go over the results and speedy dual at the finish of the Headlands 27K. We also dive into this crazy unsupported 100 mile race that takes place in Plain, Washington. In addition, we look at an article from Run247 that describes some of the training that Jasmin Paris did leading up to her Barkley finish earlier this year. Finally, we give a status update for Tara Dower and Mike Wardian who are still out there kicking ass on the Appalachian Trail. All eyes are on Tara as she is closing in on the last few hundred miles with the overall FKT in sight. Go Tara!!

This week we talk about the classic late summer point to point 100 milers that took place over the weekend. Results from Wasatch Front 100, Pine to Palm 100, Mogollon Monster 100, and Superior Trail 100. Crazy that all these juggernauts take place in the same weekend! We also discuss Hurricane 100K, Wy’east Wonder 50 mile and 50K, and YUTC 50K. Tor Des Geants is going on and John Kelly was having a great race until he wasn’t. Also, there is a new men’s 6 day record! Matthieu Bonne of Belgium broke a record that was set in 2005 by the multi day legend Yiannis Kouros. We end the show with AT updates for Tara Dower and Mike Wardian. They are in the same area! I (Farley) had a bit of technical difficulty during this recording so please excuse that.

This week we start off by going over results from all the main UTMB ultra races. Then we talk about what appears to be a miserable hot and humid 46 miler on a paved trail in Florida. Costume chick was out there representing! We talk about Stine Rex setting a new women's 6 day record. We discuss Kilian Jornet's new adventure he recently completed in the Alps. Anton Krupicka set a new FKT on the "LA Freeway" route, it's not in California and it's not paved. Will Peterson smashed the FKT on the Long Trail in Vermont. Tara Dower is over half way on her AT FKT attempt. Mike Wardian is also over half way. He even did the "1/2 gallon" ice cream challenge at the half way point. We end the show talking about a race that we skipped over when doing the results. The Temptation Ultras in central IL.

We start this episode talking about Jeff Browning's (a.k.a. Bronco Billy) impressive FKT on the Colorado Trail's West to East, Collegiate West route. Then we dive into race results from Oregon Cascades, Twisted Branch, Matterhorn Ultraks, Habanero Hundred, and Midwest States 100. Johnny breaks down the best pie in New York's Finger Lakes region where Twisted Branch takes place. Then we do our UTMB Preview and make podium picks for the women and the men along with a Wildcard pick for each. We end by going over where Mike Wardian and Tara Dower are on the AT as they are both doing a through run for different charities. Tara is going for the FKT.

Today we start off talking about David Roche’s Leadville 100 course record that he set on Saturday, breaking a record that has stood since 2005. Also it was David’s debut 100 miler which is a bit surprising since he has been around the ultrarunning world for so long. We also go over race results from Leadville, Tamalpa Headlands 50K, Squamish 50/50K, and the Marquette Trail 50/50K. Then we discuss Jim Walmsley’s return to UTMB and talk about Harvey Lewis and what he recently accomplished. We go into a discussion on which race is the toughest between Western States 100, Badwater 135, and Bigfoot 200. Then we go over the FKT updates and through runs for Tara Dower, Mike Wardian, and Bronco Billy (Jeff Browning). We end the show looking at some of the video footage of Leadville posted by Matt Choi on his Instagram account.

We start tonight’s show off with race results and some commentary about Crazy Mountain 100, Burning River 100, Minnesota Voyager 50, Standhope 100, Never Summer 100K, Resurrection Pass 100, and Tushars Mountain Runs. We talk about Harvey Lewis’s Badwater double, well, not a true double according to Marshall Ulrich but we still think it’s pretty badass. Mike Wardian and Tara Dower are both doing the AT in August for charity. Tara is going for the FKT but we are not sure yet what direction she will be going. Mike is going North to South but planning on 50 days. We discuss the co-ed FKT summiting all 58 of Colorado’s 14,000 peaks (14ers). There is a funny video on reddit of a random flock of sheep following a runner. We end with some of Snoop Dog’s commentary on Badminton from the Olympics.

We kick today’s episode off by finishing up our Western States discussion from last week. More specifically, what the historic finisher rates are and how the data supports a higher average finisher rate as the lottery odds get less favorable. We give a shout out to a few runners who grabbed 10 year Western States buckles. Then we dive into The Mount Marathon Race, an annual 4th of July classic trail 5K which is one of the craziest races out there. We go over race results from Buckeye Trail 50K, Silver Rush 50, Silverton Alpine 50K, Kendall Mountain, Afton Trail 50K, and the monster that is Quebec Mega Trail running festival. We have some additional information on why Kristian Morgan had to abandon his Northbound AT FKT attempt after being so close. We also talk about what he ate during the attempt and to give a hint…it’s a lot. We close the show out with our Hardrock 100 preview as the race starts Friday morning.
