you will hear hear snippets pieced together from my handheld portable audio recorder and my iphone as i'm walking around neighborhoods, sitting in airports, and performing.
performance clip is from the gladstone pub in london (southwark) on 31/3/2019.
EDIT NOTES: i accidentally said "bristol" when referring to referring to brighton.we speak in colors field recordings. let’s take a walk around my head.

we speak in colors field recordings presents the second edition of audio chronicles: a conversation with ingrid nielsen- an estonian-native, killer photographer, thoughtful mother, and weird seeker. like chapter 1, this was documented at manarat al saadiyat on saadiyat island in abu dhabi. ingrid spent 8 years living in abu dhabi, but unlike many expats, she crossed cultural boundaries, found interesting nooks in the city, and befriended many people that grew up in the country. at the time this was recorded, ingrid had no plans to leave, but as of last month (june 2018), she is back in estonia with her family. this occurrence gives real insight into how global, expat-based cities, like abu dhabi, dubai, singapore, and shanghai, among others, operate. these places are transient, things move quickly, geography dominates. "where to next?" is the relentless, screaming question.

chapter 1 of the audio branch of we speak in colors field recordings: a conversation with farah bushnaq. a peer, a friend, and an important presence in the abu dhabi creative community.
farah is from jordan, but as you’ll hear, bounced around a lot growing up. in the midst of all the movement, abu dhabi planted itself as home base for farah and her family. she is part of a really interesting demographic of arab expats that grew up in the uae, call it home, but have citizenship from other parts of the arab world.
as someone who showed up to the country later in life and stepped into a developed, international hub of a city, it’s really fun to be enlightened by people who’ve been here for decades. to hear anecdotes from a fascinating country that was only founded in the 70s. the uae exploded from being a vast, open desert with minimal infrastructure to a full blown global metropolis in a short time.
our conversation was documented in the spring of 2018 at manarat al saadiyat, a beautiful government run art, exhibition, and event space on saaidyat island in abu dhabi. i hope it gives you insight into this place and in the future can continue to color in areas that were once gray.
