One evening in April 2006, a person sat at their kitchen table, frantically cutting up the page of a newspaper with some scissors. They were working on an important project, and it was almost done. They finished cutting the final letter from the page and pasted it onto a sheet of paper. Then they leaned back to read the message they’d assembled from the scraps. It was a warning. And they were sure it would have exactly the effect they were hoping for.

Just after 11 a.m. on a fall day in 2003, a crime scene analyst named Anna Cox was standing in the middle of a horrific crime scene inside of an apartment near Tampa, Florida. At her feet was a dead body in a pool of blood, and moving all around her were dozens of police officers and other investigators taking photos and collecting evidence. But none of those things or those other people stood out to Anna, because right now, the only thing she could think about was what she saw on the wall. She had never seen anything like this before... well, except for in movies, but no, sure enough, when she walked up to the wall, she realized that the thing that was on the wall was very real. And very, very disturbing. Possibly more disturbing, at least psychologically, than the dead body nearby. And it would be this discovery on the wall that would lead police to one of the coldest killers in Florida history.

One night in the summer of 2003, a man approached a drug dealer on a corner in Rochester, New York. The man stepped close to the dealer and whispered that he was a cop... but he wasn’t here to bust the dealer, or to buy from him. Instead, he had a request: he wanted the drug dealer to help him catch a killer.

Today's story is a fan favorite that was previously published as Episode 392.
In the early hours of Thursday, February 21st, 2008, a six-year-old girl woke to a creaking noise down the hallway outside her bedroom door. It was a blustery night in rural Nevada, so she figured it was just the wind bending frozen tree branches in the yard. But then another creaking noise filled the house, this time even closer to her bedroom. She pulled her covers tight around her and stared out through the crack in the door. An uneasy feeling settled over her as the light in the hallway shifted. She could almost see the outline of a person standing outside her room. She squinted, trying to make out a face, wondering if it was one of her parents checking in on her. But as quick as the shadow appeared, it vanished into thin air.

Gather round for three stories the internet found and couldn't put down. A DVD arrived in Sweden with no return address — on it, a figure in a plague doctor mask standing inside an abandoned psychiatric hospital where hundreds of people were executed. The audio carried photographs hidden in frequencies the human ear can't detect.
In Seoul, a woman livestreamed herself 24 hours a day from a filth-filled apartment, claiming a corrupt police officer had implanted a chip in her ankle to control her sleep. Thousands watched. Nobody came.
And somewhere in West Virginia, a public access TV station started broadcasting messages that didn't belong to it. The signal told you not to look at the moon. Then something reversed the signal.

Sometimes the thing that gives a story its authenticity is the frequency with which it has been shared, regardless of the truth. And many of them turn out to be utterly terrifying.
