  • This week on A Dog’s Devotion, we honor the extraordinary life of Pockets Warhol—a tiny soul who endured so much, yet gave the world beauty, connection, and meaning through his art.

Pockets wasn’t meant to be a “pet.” He was born into the harsh and heartbreaking reality of the exotic animal trade—an industry driven by profit, where wild animals are taken from their families, transported in cruel conditions, and too often die before they ever reach their destination. Those who survive are left to live a life far from what nature ever intended.

But Pockets’ story took a different turn.

Through the love and devotion of his muse, Charmaine Quinn, and the sanctuary that became his true home at Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary, Pockets found safety, compassion, and a voice—expressed through his incredible paintings that touched hearts around the world. I had the privilege of knowing Pockets, of witnessing his spirit, and of volunteering at the sanctuary where animals like him are finally given the life they deserve.

This episode is deeply personal. It’s about loss. It’s about resilience. And it’s about the powerful bond between humans and animals—a bond built not on ownership, but on respect, protection, and love.

While this conversation may be difficult to hear at times, it is filled with compassion and purpose. It’s a reminder that wild animals belong in the wild—not in cages, not in homes, not as commodities for our entertainment.

At its core, this is what A Dog’s Devotion is all about—the profound love and impact animals have on our lives, and the responsibility we carry to protect them.

Please listen, share, like, and comment to help spread this important message.

    Thank you for being here.

  • This week on A Dog’s Devotion, we continue one of the most tender and difficult conversations a dog parent will ever face.

Following last week’s episode on knowing when it’s time to say goodbye, we gently explore what happens next — the deeply personal decision of at-home euthanasia. With compassion and honesty, we talk about how to navigate the fear and uncertainty, what the process truly looks like, and how to recognize when the time is right for your beloved companion.
I am joined by Dr. Becky Frank, from Lap of Love a place that provides in-home pet euthanasia, consultation, veterinary hospice, and pet loss support services. Here is their website: https://www.lapoflove.com/

We also open the door to the emotions that follow — the guilt, the heartbreak, and the overwhelming grief of losing your best friend. If you’re going through this now, or carrying the weight of this decision from the past, you are not alone.

This is a safe space for love, remembrance, and understanding.

Join me for this important and heartfelt conversation.

Please subscribe, share with someone who may need it, and thank you for being part of this community.

I know this is so difficult to discuss, but it is something we have to prepare for.

  • Welcome to A Dog's Devotion, a podcast for all dog lovers. This episode we once again cover the importance of dog rescue, with Underdog Rescue.
Some of the topics are horrible to hear about, so please keep that in mind. But it is the reality of our world, and some of the hatred in it. There are some very evil people on this planet and they always seem to pray on the most innocent.

What does it really take to give an “underdog” a second chance?

In this heartfelt episode of A Dog’s Devotion, we shine a light on the incredible work of Underdog Rescue and the life-changing impact of rescue dogs. These are the dogs often overlooked—the seniors, the injured, the abandoned—yet they are the ones with the most powerful stories to tell.

We dive into the realities of dog rescue, the emotional journeys behind adopting a rescue dog, and the deep, unbreakable bond between humans and the dogs who need them most. From stories of resilience to second chances, this episode reminds us how dogs change lives, often when we need it the most.

If you’ve ever wondered how to help, how to adopt, or how a dog could transform your life, this episode is for you.

    Because sometimes
the ones we save, end up saving us. đŸŸ

  • Welcome to A Dog's Devotion, the podcast for all dog lovers. Here we talk about dogs changing lives, rescue dog stories, dog love, the human animal bond, and life with dogs. We as dog lovers know that our lives are so enriched when we have a loving dog by our side. To share adventures, love and just the silence of being together.

On today's episode, we are talking about the importance of dog rescue. The horrific stories that come with it break my heart, but they have to be told so we can put an end to it.

The Anna Shelter is trying to do just that. This episode of A Dog’s Devotion shines a light on the critical, life-saving work being done by rescues like The Anna Shelter, where abandoned, neglected, and abused animals are given a second chance at the love they’ve always deserved.

Behind their doors are stories that are difficult to hear—but impossible to ignore. Across this country, countless animals suffer in silence, victims of cruelty, neglect, and unimaginable abuse. And yet, in places like The Anna Shelter, compassion rises to meet that darkness. Here, broken spirits are rebuilt, trust is restored, and love becomes the bridge between pain and healing.

This conversation is not just about awareness—it’s about action. Because these animals cannot speak for themselves
 but we can.

Please listen, share, like, and comment.
Together, we can be their voice.

There is more animal abuse in this country than ever before, we must do what we can to stop it. Thanks to Ruth from The Anna Shelter for the work she is doing. Some of what you will hear will tear your heart into pieces, it did mine - so just be aware we cover some horrific cases of animal abuse.

Thanks for listening, as always. Hopefully one day we won't have to cover stories like Mimi's.

  • Welcome to A Dogs Devotion, a dog podcast, that is all about the human animal bond, and how dogs change lives.
In this episode we talk about senior dog health.
When our dogs get older, everything changes. The slow walks
 the stiffness
the look in their eyes that makes you wonder, are they hurting?

In this episode of A Dog’s Devotion, I speak with a canine chiropractor who is helping senior dogs find relief in ways many pet parents don’t even know are possible. If your dog is struggling to get up, hesitating on stairs, or just not themselves anymore, this conversation could change everything.

We talk about how to recognize hidden pain, what’s really happening in your dog’s body as they age, and how gentle, non-invasive care can bring comfort, mobility, and joy back into their lives.

Because when they’ve given us their whole life
we owe them comfort in theirs.

Canine chiropratic care is becoming more and more popular, and the results that many dog parents are seeing is incrediable. You maybe on the fence, you may wonder if it really works, but give this episode a listen and maybe, just maybe we can shed some light on it so you can make your own decision.

Taking care of our senior dogs is a priority, no one wants to see their dog in pain. This just might be the answer that you have been looking for. Life with dogs is always so much better.

    As always, thanks for listening.

  • This week on A Dog’s Devotion, we shine a light on the extraordinary work of Three Little Pitties Rescue — a rescue saving all dog breeds and cats, and proving every single life matters.

Dog rescue in our country has never been more important. Shelters are overwhelmed. The need is constant. And yet
thousands of people show up anyway. Transport drivers. Foster families. Behavior teams. Volunteers. Donors. Quiet heroes working behind the scenes.

Today, I speak with one of the incredible women making it happen — one of the boots-on-the-ground voices in a movement fueled by compassion and action. From Texas to the Pacific Northwest, the East Coast, and the Midwest, they are moving animals from heartbreak to hope.

And you can follow on with me @adogsdevotion1, where l continue to share my love and grief of loosing Max, to learning to love another little soul who was so badly in need of a loving home.

  • This week on A Dog’s Devotion, I sit down with the founder of Flying Fur Animal Rescue — a U.S. Army veteran whose life of service didn’t end when he left the military. Instead, it took flight in a whole new way.

  • Welcome back! A Dog's Devotion is kicking off a brand new year. We hope you enjoyed your holidays, and spent some time relaxing and enjoying the company of loved ones.
We took some time off, and are now refreshed and ready for the new adventures that 2026 will bring. We also welcomed a new member of our family, Smokey. A 7 year old Yorkie who we rescued from Adopt & Save a Life Rescue in Florida. He will never replace the love l had for Max, that will never go away. However, the sound of little paws running around, the dog cuddles and kisses are so nice to have again.

This is the first episode of 2026, and it is a special one. For any of you who have loved a senior dog, adopted a senior dog, and then ultimately had to say goodbye to a senior this one will touch your heart.

In this very special first episode of 2026, A Dog’s Devotion explores the extraordinary bond we share with older dogs — a love that is quiet, patient, and profoundly unconditional. Inspired by the beautiful book Unconditional: Older Dogs, Deeper Love, this episode is a heartfelt reminder that senior dogs don’t come with less love — they come with more.

Older dogs teach us how to slow down, how to be present, and how to love without expectations. Their eyes hold stories, their hearts hold gratitude, and their devotion runs deeper than words can express.

This episode is for anyone who has loved a senior dog, lost one, or is considering opening their heart to an older pup who still has so much love to give. It’s about choosing compassion, honoring experience, and recognizing that sometimes the most meaningful love arrives when we least expect it.

Thank you to my guest Jane Sobel Klonsky for joining me, talking about your book and sharing your love of senior dogs.

  • The holidays can be one of the hardest times to grieve the loss of a beloved pet. The joy all around can feel heavy when the one you love most is missing.

This is my second Christmas without Max, and I still cry — often. The grief doesn’t disappear just because time has passed. If you’re feeling this too, please know you are not alone.

In this very special and deeply personal episode, I’m joined by pet loss grief counselor Beth Biglar, who offers compassion, understanding, and gentle guidance for anyone navigating pet loss during the holidays. We talk about love, loss, and how to move through this season with kindness toward yourself. Beth also shares her 12 Days of Christmas support for grieving pet parents — small, meaningful ways to help you cope, one day at a time.

This episode is meant to hold space for you. To remind you that there is a dog-loving community out there, ready to support you, to listen, and to walk beside you through the grief.

This is also the final episode of the season. As we close out this year, I want to thank you — truly — for listening, for sharing, and for being part of A Dog’s Devotion.

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas, and sending you love and peace during this tender season.

  • This week on A Dog’s Devotion, I sit down with Shannon Keith, the powerhouse founder of the Beagle Freedom Project — an organization that has changed the future for thousands of animals used in research labs around the world.

Shannon’s mission is both courageous and urgent: rescuing beagles and other animals from laboratory testing, fighting the systems that keep them hidden, and giving these dogs the chance to experience love, sunshine, and freedom for the first time in their lives.

In this emotional and eye-opening conversation, Shannon shares:
đŸŸ Why beagles are the number one breed used in testing (and what most people don’t know).
đŸŸ How Beagle Freedom Project rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs who’ve never stepped outside a cage.
đŸŸ The incredible transformations these animals undergo once they finally experience compassion.
đŸŸ The legal battles, the victories, and the ongoing fight to change outdated laws.
đŸŸ What we can all do to help end animal testing — and support the dogs still waiting for freedom.

This is a powerful episode that will move you, challenge you, and remind you why the human-animal bond is worth fighting for.
If you love dogs, care about justice, or want to learn what’s really happening behind closed doors, you won’t want to miss this conversation.

As always thank you for listening, this episode will really open your eyes to the amount of dog testing that is still going on across the US, right in our own backyard, in places you would never guess. It is so sad to see these poor helpless animals suffer, and l am hoping this episode will shine a light on this so more people can get involved to stop it.

    Thank you,

    Carla
