  • Ok baes, y’all might wanna take notes this episode! Today, we’re talking to with Dr. Janina Jeff, an American geneticist and host of In Those Genes podcast, a show that explores the link between genetics and Black culture. We get into how trauma can imprint on DNA, how the effects of slavery still linger, why the future of DNA testing (also known as genetic testing) could get messy, and what this all means for Black Americans trying to figure out ~exactly~ who they are.

  • Don’t worry, you’re doing just fine! This week’s episode is about alignment. Everyone’s talking about it lately and for good reason. We want to stand firmly in our purpose, but how can we, if we’re always anxious and sad? Does that mean that we aren’t aligned? How do we talk to our ancestors about this? And above all, how can we trust our own intuition and accept that maybe it’s all a part of our destiny?

  • Hey Baes!!! This week we’re so excited to welcome DOCTOR Mar Aziz to the show. Dr. Mar (they/them) is a Black, Non-Binary, Muslim scholar-practitioner. As an organizer, Aziz regularly teaches radically inclusive self-defense classes in person and virtually. Dr. Mar gave us a whole history lesson about Black Islam and our ancestors, the impact of Black Islam on Black culture and spirituality, and how queer folks are constantly doing deep dives to piece together healing that is inclusive for us all. There’s also a syllabus to go along with it (books they mentioned are linked below!) Please enjoy the conversation and go follow Dr. Mar’s work!

  • Gather ‘round baes, it’s diasporic storytime! First, let’s get into how I met Kehlani!!! LOL but really tho…Black oral histories are extremely important, so it’s time to get into some little known folklore that’s been passed down. I’ll tell y’all about the strange mystery of Nola’s Seven Sisters that men wrote songs about, how the recent discovery of my Trini roots taught me about debts, death and mermaids; and how MEN have always been conjurers via the tale of Dr. Buzzard, who used juju for justice.

  • EbonyJanice is about to take us to church y’all! She’s a womanist, activist, author, and scholar on the interconnectedness of the Southern Black Christian experience with Indigenous African Spirituality. We talk about the trials and tribulations of transitioning from an Abrahamic Religion to Black Ancestral Spirituality, how a praise dance break is merely a conjuring, and how your Bible-thumping family members might be mad when you leave the church – but did you even have a real relationship with them if the only thing you ever had in common was Jesus?

I’ll get into why I *technically* have Beyonce to thank for starting me on my personal journey with the Orisha, how the Atlantic Slave Trade birthed differing Orisha traditions, and how we can still connect with our ancestors and The Orisha without a spiritual house.
