  • Students from Year 5 were tasked with writing a speech to persuade their audience on a topic that they really cared about. Over the course of the first 5 weeks of Term, we learned about good persuasive writing. We settled on 4 'toolbox tools' that we could include in our writing to make it more persuasive:

    1) Emotive Language

    2) Rule of Three

    3) Rhetorical Questions, and

    4) Believable Statistics

The boys spent time writing many different attempts at persuasive writing, beginning to incorporate all of these toolbox tools into their writing. They experimented with different openings, turns of phrase and formal language to set the tone just right for their audience.

All Year 5 students presented their speech to the class. Of these, four students are going to present their speeches to you today.

This is the culmination of 5 weeks of work, using the Talk 4 Writing framework to allow our boys to become better writers through imitation, exploration and experimentation.
