Jules and Verne want to compete in the “Father-Son Big Mouth Bass-Off”, but the boys learn that their father was afraid of fishing. Using a wacky invention, the boys go into his memory and find out that while staying with his “Oddball” Uncle Oliver in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one summer, four-year-old Emmett fell into the river while fishing. The boys, with Marty tagging along, head back in time to August 5, 1926, to prevent the accident, thereby eliminating Emmett’s fear of fishing. The boys prevent the accident but a new accident is created, when Marty falls into the river instead. When little Emmett Brown casts his line, it gets caught on a low flying stunt biplane (flown as part of the “Roris Von Hinkelhuffins Flying Circus”) and the stunt is captured on film. Soon, Emmett is featured in a silent film, and a movie producer signs a contract with Uncle Oliver (who is now managing his young nephew’s career) for a series of film shorts about Daredevil Brown. Little Emmett moves to Hollywood and then becomes very famous doing crazy stunts on film, while Oliver, Marty, Jules and Verne enjoy the good life. Eventually, movie producer D.W. Tannen proposes a very dangerous stunt, going over a waterfall — not the Niagara Falls, but the 2,425 foot high “Upper Yosemite Falls” — in a barrel. The plan is for a dummy will take Emmett’s place, but Tannen plans on keeping Emmett in the barrel because “This has got to look like the Real McDonald!”. Learning of the scheme, Marty stalls for time with a tightrope walk, while Jules places a “spare flux capacitor” in the barrel. Verne, who is not much taller than little Emmett, and somewhat resembles him, takes his father’s place in the barrel. Shortly after the stunt begins, Uncle Oliver sees the dummy, realizes what Tannen had planned, and dives into the river. Marty saves Oliver, the barrel goes over the falls, and when it reaches eighty-eight miles per hour, it vanishes. Emmett is alive and well, and Uncle Oliver gives up the movie business. After the Brown family goes fishing at a stream near the falls, the time-traveling barrel materializes on schedule, as Jules had planned. When Marty and the boys return to the future, Doc, who now has no fear of fishing, is ready to go to the Bass-Off. After hearing everyone complain about the July heat, Doc takes his family and Marty to 1845 London to cool off and to celebrate a “Dickens” Christmas. Arriving on Christmas Eve, Doc entrusts his pocket watch (with the key to the DeLorean hooked on it) to Jules. When Clara, Doc, and Marty go inside Fedgewick’s Toys, Reg, a young pickpocket, steals the watch from Jules and the boys pursue the thief. The boys are caught by Murdock, the Fagin-like leader of the pickpockets, and are forced to join the group. While Doc and Marty go to look for them, Ebiffnezer Tannen, who holds the mortgage on the toy shop, throws the shopkeeper, his family, and Clara into debtor’s prison. Doc and Marty rescue the boys and decide to teach Ebiffnezer a lesson on humanity by having Marty dressed up as the Ghost of Christmas (with flying effects created by the hoverboard). Ebiffnezer has a change of heart and releases everyone from debtor’s prison.

On December 15, 1991, Jules and Verne wish their parents a happy anniversary and surprise them with gifts. Jules has discovered, through his own invention (the “JEB Cross-Time Headliner”) that December 15, 2091 will be the date of McFly Space Cruises’ first voyage to the planet, Mars. Using a flux capacitor, a fax machine and “Father’s credit card”, Jules has also purchased two tickets for Doc and Clara. Moments after their parents have departed, the boys get another headline from the future that says “McFly Solar Sailship Lost In Space!”, and set off in the time train to prevent the disaster. The ship MSC Marty is preparing to launch, captained by Marta McFly, Marty, and Jennifer’s great-granddaughter. However, MSC’s employee, Ziff Tannen, has deliberately sabotaged the ship, removing a sail support bolt a moment before the launch. Jules and Verne are brought to the space center by a taxicab, but a problem in paying the fare keeps them from reaching the ship in time. Minutes later, the solar sail collapses, and the MSC Marty is adrift in space. On Earth, Jules and Verne gain admission to the McFly Museum of Aeronautics by sneaking in with a group of fifth graders from Dan Quayle Elementary School. Inside the museum, they see the MSC Jennifer, the first solar-sail spaceship. Jules proves that the MSC Marty has been sabotaged and that Ziff Tannen had committed the crime, and he and Verne are able to borrow the Jennifer in order to rescue the stranded space cruise. Doc has invented special glasses and a body suit that simulate the ideal skills for a baseball player. After Jules shows Marty an old baseball card depicting a distant relative, Pee Wee McFly, Marty and the boys make a trip to Boston, Massachusetts, September 1, 1897. On September 2 of that year, Pee Wee had retired after losing the game that would have won the 1897 National League Pennant Race for the Boston Beaneaters. Upon arriving in Boston on the day before Pee Wee’s mistake, the guys discover that Pee Wee McFly pitching that game as well, with Boston leading the Baltimore Orioles, 6-4. Marty inadvertently interferes with history when he yells “Hey, cousin!” to the pitcher, who is distracted and knocked unconscious by a baseball. Using Doc’s inventions, as well as a fake mustache, Marty “steps in” for Pee Wee and wins the game. Check out Back To The Future stuff at Amazon.com Instead of being thankful, Pee Wee is terrified – he is being pressured to “throw” the games by Diamond Jim Tannen, a Boston gangster who has bet on Baltimore to win the pennant. Diamond Jim warns Pee Wee to lose the September 2 game, or face serious injury. When Marty casually says “Get out of town!” to his 1897 relative, Pee Wee takes the advice to heart and hops on a streetcar on its way out of Boston. Marty then makes plans to impersonate Pee Wee once more and to win the September 2 game that his distant cousin had lost. With Doc’s invention, Marty helps Boston take the lead. Realizing that Pitcher McFly isn’t throwing the game, Diamond Jim rushes the field and attacks Marty until the police take him away. Marty is uninjured, but his cheating aids have been damaged and the malfunctioning glasses cause him to become disoriented. Thanks to Marty’s bad pitching, Baltimore takes a 10-9 lead, and the McFly name is once more destined for ruin. Pee Wee, who had contemplated sailing back to his native Ireland, returns to the stadium, takes over from Marty, and wins the game and the 1897 National League pennant. After returning to the future (1991), Marty, Verne, and Jules play a game of baseball. Marty, in hitting the ball for a home run, also destroys a shop window in Hill Valley, breaking the glass. Doc Brown, in the shop at the time, leaves before anyone can blame his family for the destruction. Time Waits for No Frog Doc and Marty go to Ancient Peru in the year 1532 to find a cure for Marty’s athletes’ foot. The cure comes in the form of an extinct frog — the Bufo Marinus — which emits an acid from its skin. Doc and Marty meet up with the vile conquistador Biffando de la Tanén and his goons. Biffando releases them and follows them at a distance, to the lost City of Gold. Marty and Doc end up being captured by Incan natives and are put in a large pit with hundreds of Bufo Marinus frogs. With that many frogs, Doc says that he and Marty will “melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.” Using a tuning fork, Doc makes the frogs go crazy and it looks like Marty can “control” the frogs. The Incans release Doc and Marty and stop Biffando from stealing any gold. Doc and Marty take a couple of frogs home to reestablish the population in the 20th century. One of the frogs cured Marty’s athlete foot. Einstein’s Adventure While Doc is in the hardware store, Einstein is asleep in the back of the DeLorean when it is stolen by a couple of bank robbers (Sidney and Frankie) who have just left the Hill Valley Savings & Loan. The robbers activate the DeLorean’s time clock (Frankie has been asked how many “clams” they got in the theft, and, counting $1,790 he replies, “Seventeen-ninety, Sidney!”) and head to Sydney, Australia, 1790. Einstein is bounced out of the car on impact and the robbers end up “breaking in” to an Australian prison. Einstein ends up saving the crooks and when they get back to the future, the crooks return the money and turn themselves in. Jules taunts his brother Verne by saying that Verne must not be a biological member of the Brown family because he isn’t as smart as Doc and Jules, doesn’t resemble either parent, and does not have a baby picture. Verne uses his father’s photo invention to find a picture of himself, and erroneously concludes that Benjamin Franklin is his biological father. Taking the DeLorean back in time toSeptember 2, 1752, Verne interferes with Franklin’s experiment and the discovery of the nature of electricity. When all of the electricity goes out in present day Hill Valley, Doc concludes that all electrical devices will be erased from existence if the timeline cannot be repaired. In Philadelphia, Doc saves Verne from falling off a clock tower. Verne realizes that Doc is his biological father. Doc adds that, although Verne isn’t adopted, Doc would love Verne just as much if he were adopted. Before departing Philadelphia, Doc and Marty use smoke, water and static electricity to create a simulated thunderstorm so that Franklin will repeat the kite-flying experiment. All the electric power restored in the 20th century. With Marty as company, Doc heads to Rome in 36 A.D. to return architectural plans that he had borrowed for study. Jules and Verne overhear their father talk about the arcades and stow away in the DeLorean time machine to play the Roman “video games” (the boys have been punished and is not allowed to leave the house because they misuse their father’s latest invention – a holographic device). Once there, Marty insults Bifficus Antanneny, a very popular athlete, who challenges him to a chariot race. Doc is mistaken for a rebellious slave and is going to be thrown to the lions. The boys run amok in Ancient Rome and end up meeting Judah, a slave, who helps them get out of trouble. In the end, Marty purposefully loses the race, because the popularity of Bifficus is critical to the rise of Caligula as Emperor of Rome, which Doc points out to be a key event toward the eventual downfall of the Empire. Doc uses his holographic device to avoid becoming lion chow and the boys help Judah escape to become a free man. Marty wants to confront Jennifer and catches her talking with the school jock and assumes she’s dating behind his back. Jennifer, who has been tutoring the jock, tries to explain the situation but Marty doesn’t listen to her. Marty goes to the Browns’ house and receives a message that Doc and his family are trapped in Salem, Massachusetts during the Puritan period. Taking the DeLorean, Marty brings a spare flux capacitor for the train to Doc, but the DeLorean that Marty and Einstein are in is in the water and comes out. As Doc fixes the train, Marty, Clara and the boys go to a town function. Marty spurns the advances of a young lady named Mercy and she accuses him of being a witch out of spite. Marty is condemned for being a witch without being able to defend himself. Marty is sentenced to the “water” test and Doc saves him with a makeshift scuba suit. When Marty returns home, he apologizes to Jennifer for making accusations without first hearing her side of the story. The flux capacitor on the Jules Verne Train is damaged by a spear and the train sends the Browns to 1692 Salem, Massachusetts. Doc sends Marty a scratch and listen postcard via a miniature time machine delivery car asking him to take the DeLorean and bring back a spare flux capacitor. Upon arrival, Doc calculates that it will take several days to repair the train with the replacement and they attempt to lie low in the town of Salem. Verne in Puritan times Verne, looking out his window while wearing his Puritan outfit. Marty arrives at September 23, 1692 and crashes into a lake. The DeLorean sinks to the bottom, but an inflatable device brings it back to the surface, after which Doc guides the DeLorean to a hideout with a remote control. For the past few weeks, Doc has been working with Goodman Tannen as a trash man. Tannen’s daughter Mercy shows up at a town event that night. Marty’s wild antics and strange tongues create gossip in the town and after he plays his harmonica, he is labeled a witch and put on trial. Marty is ordered to suffer the water test, which will determine whether or not he is lying, with either consequence being death. “Brothers” is the first episode of the first season of Back to the Future: The Animated Series, as well as the pilot episode of the series. It first aired on September 7, 1991. Shop Back To The Future on Amazon.com Brief synopsis Marty McFly studies for a Civil War test at Hill Valley College with the assistance of a holographic tutor. Marty went on with playing his guitar with headphones on, ignoring what the tutor was saying. She yells the date of “February 11, 1864; Chattanooga, Tennessee” within range of the new DeLorean time machine’s audio-activated time circuits, enabling the car to change the date and location. Upset that he was second to his older brother Jules, Verne Brown decides to hop into the DeLorean and take it for a test drive, unaware that the time circuits were activated. Verne drives the DeLorean off the launch pad and breaks the time barrier in the sky. He emerges outside Chattanooga (after the DeLorean was rebuilt with spatial displacement) and is confused by the Confederate Army for some kind of Union Army “devil” wagon. The DeLorean clips a series of Confederate tents before Verne activated the time machine’s night vision. The DeLorean runs into another tent, catching it, and comes to a stop. While under the cover of the tent, the car compacts into a briefcase, with Verne to its side. Doc, Marty, and Jules go back in time to find him during the American Civil War. Verne then encounters Confederate General Beauregard Tannen and his men at the campsite. Tannen asks if Verne was a spy for the Union Army, which he has no answer. Doc Brown, Jules, Marty, and Einstein are forced to take the Jules Verne Train to rescue Verne from the past after finding him in a picture taken of Confederate soldiers a day before the battle, as the text had indicated that the Confederates were wiped out in a massacre. While the Confederate army troops kidnap Marty and capture Einstein, the Union army troops capture Doc and Jules. Verne begins to see the Confederate army troops hold both Einstein and Marty hostage and locking them in the jail under the wrong orders from General Tannen. On the day of the battle, Doc and Jules build an electromagnet from an electric magnetic machine marketed to General Ulysses S. Clayton and use it to attract all the weapons from both armies. Jules and Verne end up on opposite sides of the war; Verne is recruited by the Confederates and Jules in the Union army. When this fails, Jules is thrown into the middle of the battlefield and Verne comes to protect him. When both armies see this, they stop and admire the brothers’ bonding. Brothers, cousins, and uncles from both sides begin to embrace one another and huddle together in the center of the battlefield. The soldiers realize that they are fighting their own brothers, cousins, uncles, and nephews. Both parties walk away from the battle without fighting. Tannen and Clayton agree to work together… “just long enough to drive you troublemakers out of here!” Einstein finally takes Doc, Marty, Jules, and Verne with him back to 1991. During the live-action segment, Doc reveals that Marty studied the American Civil War in vain, and failed. Had he been paying attention in class, he would have known that the exam was about the Spanish Civil War, which lasted from 1936 until 1939.
