  • The middle months are those wonderful summer months when most of us have ended our formal academic year and are taking a break to travel, see family and enjoy a lighter, more laid-back schedule. Though most of us are vacationing, we don’t want to take a complete break from learning. In fact, some of the most impactful, enjoyable learning happens in these months—and sometimes while on vacation! Making the most of the middle months is simply looking at June, July and August and seeing what learning opportunities are embedded there. It’s about learning differently and often in ways that are more carefree and fun for your family. There are many different educational topics and opportunities unique to the summer months that won’t be available when formal homeschooling starts back in the fall. With a little review and a little planning, you can ensure your family experiences the best the middle months have to offer.

  • God designed receptive and expressive language to work together in a child’s learning. The child takes in and absorbs ideas and knowledge then gives them forth, expressing them through his own unique voice by choosing and combining words in a way all his own. This is why notebooking is so valuable and essential. It gives opportunity to strengthen expressive language skills which are vital to a child’s growth in every area. In this episode, Shiela explores the benefits of notebooking and how through written and visual narration, a child finds his voice and builds his confidence to grow into and express the unique person God made him to be. She gives practical, creative ideas for notebooking through the homeschool subjects and how this age old methodology can bring joy to your children’s homeschool days. • Jeannie chats with Mary Ann Otley, the founder of Love Triumphs! a ministry designed to lead women into a closer walk with Jesus, where they can be transformed by His love. Mary Ann shares the story of her childhood trauma and how Jesus brought her total healing. In addition to lots of wisdom regarding our relationship with our children, Mary Ann also discusses the format for her Journaling with Jesus classes and the steps for quieting our hearts so we can hear from God.

    About Mary Ann

Like so many women, I experienced the humiliation and shame of being sexually abused as a child. I coped by internalizing the pain and tried to create my own happiness for decades. I lost my bearings as I sought to be accepted from people that could not fill the void in my heart. I felt like a pinball in a pinball machine bouncing from one crisis to the next, experiencing one disappointment after another. The anguish I had experienced for decades began to be relieved as I found the answers to three questions: “What is Real?” “What is Important? “What’s the truth?” I discovered the pathway to healing from a place, I least expected it. And I found that pure love really does exist, healing can happen, freedom is within our grasp. Just as I was led along this healing path, my mission through Love Triumphs is to guide other women along their path of healing and freedom. To learn more, read my story Love Triumphs! Rescued from the Deep Wounds and Dark Secrets of Childhood Sexual Abuse.

  • The impact of a child’s health on his learning is a topic that doesn’t get much attention but one that is vital and is something Charlotte Mason took seriously and expounded on. She believed there are three conditions for healthy brain activity: exercise, rest, nutrition. In this first episode of a two-part series, we’ll explore Charlotte Mason’s thoughts on a child’s health and learning and how her educational philosophy includes aspects of a healthy lifestyle. We’ll touch on these aspects and how you can make them part of your homeschool to ensure your children have optimal opportunity to learn and grow into the people God made them to be. You’ll be intrigued as you come to understand the wisdom behind Charlotte Mason’s argument that, “the physiological matter may seem like the lowest rung of the educational ladder but the lowest rung is the necessary step to all the rest.”

  • Your child was designed for a purpose and given everything they need to fulfill that purpose. God has a specific plan and a unique will for their lives. Our job as homeschoolers is not to map out their route, but to help them discover the path God created before the foundations of the earth for them to walk. On that path, they will use the unique gifts, talents, skills, interests, and passions God developed in them. Only there will they find true fulfillment and peace in their vocation. In this talk, Jeannie will share why and how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in leading your children into their designed destiny, while releasing our need to control and direction and lean into God’s plan and purposes instead.

  • One thing we often neglect in our busy schedule is nurturing our walk with God. With everything we must complete, we feel that we just don't have the time to have a quiet time. However, Jesus tells us, "Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing." We all want more than anything to do a good job homeschooling, to bear much fruit in our children's lives. Yet, if we are not walking with the Lord, we cannot bear fruit, we can do nothing well. Colossians 1:29 says, "To this end I strenuously labor with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me." We need the energy Christ provides to succeed in any endeavor we undertake, especially homeschooling. In this podcast, Jeannie will share the simple format that Jesus taught us to strengthen our relationship with God. Even if you only have five minutes to spare each day, by employing the steps Jesus imparted, you will receive all the blessings and benefits of an intimate and dynamic relationship with God.
