    Carys comes from a cycling family, racing multiple disciplines growing up and as she moved through the youth ranks. When Carys stepped up to junior, she started to focus on track and road, having been selected onto the British junior track and road programme.

    Over the past 2 years, Carys has won 2 world titles and 3 European titles on the track, as well as having successful wins in stage races and one-day races on the road with both Team GB and Tofauti Everyone Active.

    Next season, Carys moves up to world tour level on the road with Movistar team.

  • In this episode, I speak with U23 rider from Continental Groupama FDJ, Ben Askey.
    Ben raced a mix of all disciplines when growing up racing in the UK as a youth rider. After the COVID pandemic, Ben stepped up to junior and had the chance to race internationally in road, cyclocross and mountain bike.
    Now as a U23, Ben puts his focus on road, spending the majority of his season living in France and dabbling in some cyclocross and MTB for fun and to keep up race fitness.

    Next season Ben is joining CC Etupes, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he achieves in this new opportunity.

  • For this episode I am joined by Ella Wyllie, rider for Liv AlUla Jayco and 2024 New Zealand National Road Race Champion.

    Ella tells me about growing up in a cycling family and how joining the school cycling team helped her develop as a rider. As a Junior, Ella had a lot of success on the road, winning the National Time Trial before being selected to represent New Zealand at the World Championships in Harrogate.
    Ella has made huge progress as an Under 23 and has ridden some of the top races in the Women's calendar including Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift - finishing 2nd in the Young Rider's Classification, the Giro d'Italia and the Tour Down Under with Liv AlUla Jayco.

  • In this episode, I am joined by rider for DSM Firmenich PostNL, Becky Storrie.

    Becky started her sporting interests with triathlon on the Isle Of Man, which took her to a high level and got her a scholarship at the University of Stirling. Becky's battles with chronic fatigue syndrome during her time at uni ultimately lead to her placing her focus on cycling. Becky tells me about this and how she started getting involved in bike racing in 2019.

    After spending lockdown racing on Zwift, in 2021 Becky joined the Movistar E-Racing team and she tells me about how e-racing benefited her career and progression.

    Becky joined DSM-Firmenich at the start of 2023, which was a big leap for her at the time, but she's since gained so many experiences racing across the globe.

    Matteo has raced pretty much every road race you can think of throughout his career and is one of a select group of riders to have won stages in all 3 Grand Tours.
    We chat about his progression from racing Road and Cyclocross in Italy as a Junior to heading all over the world with the Quick-Step.
    Matteo became European Champion while riding for Michelton-Scott and after 3 years with UAE Team Emirates he joined Tudor Pro Cycling Team at the start of 2024.

  • In this episode I am joined by current Under 23 British National Road Race Champion and rider for Fenix-Deceuninck, Flora Perkins.

    After racing on the road and track as a youth, Flora's time on the bike as a Junior was affected by the Covid pandemic but success in the Netherlands at the end of 2021 led Flora to join Le Col Wahoo the following year.
    Flora and I talk about her gaining experience across Europe in both road and track where she won a silver medal at the Under 23 European Track Champs for team GB.
    This season Flora has raced a large classics block with Fenix-Deceuninck as part of both the devo team and the World Tour Team as well as taking part in her first Grand Tour, La Vuelta Feminina.
    Flora will be moving to the World Tour level with Fenix-Deceuninck in 2025 and we chat about the exciting new opportunities and experiences she can look forward to with the team.

  • For this episode I am joined by British rider Josh Giddings. Currently riding for Lotto Dstny Development Team, Josh has recently signed a 2 year Pro contract and is stepping up the Lotto Dstny World Tour team.

    Josh grew up riding and racing on the road and on the track and had success in both as a youth including winning the Youth Tour of Assen and National Championship titles in the Madison and Omnium. He then continued this progress as a Junior rider winning more medals at the National Track Championships and European titles in the European Track Championships in Apeldoorn.

    We chat about how these experiences shaped him as a rider and how as an U23 his focus has shifted to the road. Josh tells me about some of his memorable races with both the British National Team and the Lotto Dsty Devo Team. We also look ahead to joining the World Tour and Josh’s hopes for the future as a Pro rider.

  • I'm excited to be back with a brand new episode of Cycling Talk Podcast and to be joined by a rider from my home county of Devon and rider for Cofidis, Harrison Wood.

    Harrison and I chat about growing up riding and racing in Devon and what its like to go from racing a small mixed age group field around Torbay Velopark for Mid Devon Cycling Club to racing some of the best riders in the UK.
    After experiencing some racing in the UK and Spain, Harrison made the move to France and joined Aix-en-Provence cycling team. After some strong rides and results Harrison joined Cofidis as a stagiaire in August 2022 and joined the World Tour team officially in 2023.
    This year Harrison has already had a big block of racing including Milan Sanremo, Tour of Switzerland and his first Grand tour, the Giro d'Italia.

  • For this episode I am joined by rider for La Conti Groupama FDJ and Great Britain, Noah Hobbs.

    Noah and I chat about growing up riding and racing in the UK and Europe as a youth rider before Covid hit in his 2nd year as an under 16. After losing most of his track and road seasons in 2020, Noah then made great progress as a Junior, representing Team GB at the Track European Championships and racing some of the top Junior races in Europe including Keizer Juniors, Gent Wevelgem and Paris-Roubaix.

    Noah is now in his 2nd year with the Groupama FDJ Conti team and has already had some great results with the team including 4th in the U23 Gent Wevelgem and spending time in the leaders jersey in the Arctic Race of Norway as well as doing some races with the World Tour Team.

  • Joining me for this episode is Australian road rider currently racing with Q36.5, Cyrus Monk.

    Cyrus and I chat about his early memories of cycling as well as playing lots of other sports before heading to University and starting on his path to become a professional cyclist.
    Cyrus has raced all over the world with teams of all different levels from club to World Tour and has gained experience with EF and EvoPro Racing before joining Q36.5 for the 2023 season.
    We chat about this progression and how difficult it was to be based in Australia for a number of years and still working while trying to compete in races in Europe and the rest of the world. Cyrus also tells me about his coaching, his lockdown music creations and how he hopes his future in cycling will progress.

  • For this episode I am joined by British rider for Canyon-SRAM, Alice Towers.

    Alice and I chat about her progression through youth racing, starting with cafe rides with her dad and brother before joining her local club and beginning to train and race.
    Alice was a Junior when we went into Lockdown in 2020 and we talk about the impact this had on her cycling and how she got to join a team in Spain which really set her on the path to becoming a pro rider.

    After winning the British National Road Championships in 2022, Alice represented team GB for the first time at the World Championships in Australia. In 2023 Alice joined the Women's World Tour peloton and has travelled all over the world with Canyon-SRAM.

  • Today I am joined by former British Track and road rider now racing for France, Oscar Nilsson-Julien.

    Oscar grew up in London riding and racing as part of VCL cycling club. We chat about his progression through the youth and junior categories, the people who he raced with and the multiple British National titles he achieved.
    After competing as part of the GB programme as an Under 23, Oscar decided to make the move to France to join a French road team to help progress his road career.
    Soon after the move he was invited to join the French National Team and has made huge progress on the Track over the last year.

  • For this episode I am joined my British Junior road and cyclocross rider Seb Grindley.
    I've followed Seb's progress since 2021 and after having him on the pod as a guest as part of a team episode a few years ago, I really wanted the opportunity to have a proper chat with Seb about his life in cycling so far.

    Seb started riding with his dad when he was young before quickly progressing into national racing on the road and in cyclocross.
    Seb has been Cyclocross National Champion and National Trophy Series leader as an Under 14, Under 16 and Junior and has represented Great Britain at World and European Championships and has just finished the 2023/24 season with Trinity Racing.
    He's also had a lot of success on the road after winning the National Championships as an Under 16 he went on to represent GB at the Youth Olympics and at the Road World Championships in Glasgow.
    Seb is about to get his 2nd road season underway with Junior team FH MAS and has some big goals for the season and his progression to Under 23.

  • Today I am joined by female British road rider for Movistar Team, Claire Steels.

    After growing up playing field hockey, Claire studied Psychology with Sports Science at university before getting into running and then duathlon which led to her representing Team GB in her age group.
    Alongside setting up her own personal training business, Claire began to focus more on the bike and quickly made progress racing in the UK.
    We chat about Claire's life before cycling, balancing her business with trying to race at a high level and how it felt to join a Women's World Tour Team at the age of 36.
    Claire has travelled all over the World to race against the best riders in the female peloton and will now be spending 3 seasons with Movistar Team.

  • For this special episode I welcome back British Track and Road rider Ben Wiggins.

    After talking to Ben in early 2022, he joins me again to talk about his time as a Junior in 2022 and 2023.
    We chat about how he has progressed as a rider and the experiences he has had including being part of Team GB at a number of Nation's Cup events, riding at Track Nationals and racing in Glasgow as part of the Junior team representing Great Britain at the 2023 World Championships.
    Ben's achievements this year include a silver medal at the Junior Time Trial World Champs in Stirling, a Nation's Cup win and a Junior World title in the Madison with teammate Matty Brennan.

  • In this episode I am joined by young British Road and Track rider, Matthew Brennan.

    As a youth, Matty enjoyed riding multiple disciplines and achieved some great results in races around the UK before joining Fensham Howes MAS Design race team as a junior.
    Matty has raced in some of the top junior races in Europe on the road and track, gaining a huge amount of experience both on and off the bike. He has had GC wins and stage wins, represented Team GB at the Glasgow World Championships in the Junior Road Race and won two Rainbow Jerseys at the Junior Track World Championships in Columbia.
    For 2024, Matty will be spending much more time in Europe as part of the Jumbo Visma Development Team.

  • For this episode I am joined by young British road rider Jack Rootkin-Gray.

    After seeing Solihull Cycling Club training in his local park, Jack found a love of cycling, joining the club and starting to ride and race with them.
    As a youth rider Jack enjoyed some strong results including 2nd in the GC in the Youth Isle of Man stage race and winning National titles on the Track.
    Jack progressed as a Junior and competed in more races in the UK and Europe and became part of the GB Junior Academy.
    Jack had some difficult times on the bike as he progressed through his time as a Junior and into Under 23 and stepped away for a while to take a break from training and racing. He returned much happier and his love of being on the bike has really shown in his progress with UCI Continental Team Saint Piran.
    Over the last year Jack has raced in 2 Tour of Britain's, won and podiumed in multiple British National races, finished 4th in the Under 23 Road World Championships and took his first International win in Norway.
    Jack has recently announced that he will be moving to World Tour team EF Education-Easy Post for 2024 and I'm so excited to see how he progresses at World Tour level.
