  • This episode was so much fun to say the least. Kim Kelly, badass author, labor journalist, former VICE staffer, circus act, roadie and everything in between, shared her experience with putting ectrodactyly on a performing stage and traveling across towns as what sideshows called the “Lobster Girl.” Then writing about the beauties and flaws of heavy metal turned into labor rights and disability justice pieces and recently led to a book tour for her newest book, ‘FIGHT LIKE HELL: The Untold History of American Labor.'

  • Managing self-care might seem so cliche in today’s age of mental health awareness, but it’s one thing to say it and it’s another to act on it. We discuss the steps we take to find ourselves in the middle of life chaos, while the world is in dumpster fire flames, and doing so without breaking the bank. Not many of us have the privilege to escape, go on a backpacking trip through Europe to try and find peace, or move our home to the Hamptons, when living gets hard. How do we adjust our movement with mental health and illness changes? What does that look like for you? Do you put up boundaries for yourself and others?

  • In this episode, Melina joins Marybeth to discuss life on the set as a queer, disabled director and producer. How can we make more sets, stages, and venues more accommodating for PWDs? How is this translated in the hiring or casting process? Where have we made headway and what needs more work?

“I believe storytelling is inherently a mode of activism and being able to stand, through my work, for inclusion and positive representation is something that drives me in my whole career… Your voice matters. Creatives who are disabled need to be 10x as good as their abled counterparts to get half the opportunities. Through all of that, the thing that has saved me is knowing, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I have something to say and a story to tell that is vital for audiences to hear.” Listen for more!
