  • We're getting into the holiday spirit by welcoming Rankin/Bass historian Rick Goldschmidt onto the show! Rick has a background in illustration and cartooning, with magazine illustrations, editorial cartoons, and caricatures among his early assignments. He labored for years to bring to life a coffee table book chronicling all of Rankin/Bass' specials, films, and TV series, which was finally published as The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass in 1997. Rick has many stories to tell about our favorite cartoons, including the holiday classics Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman.

You can follow Rick on Facebook and Instagram @rickgoldschmidt.

  • Whitney Matheson isn't our typical guest. While she does make daily comics, she writes in so many different formats, it's hard to keep track! Whitney's perhaps best known as the creative force behind Pop Candy, the pop culture column/blog that she wrote for over a decade at USA Today. But since then, she's branched out into writing for short films, theater, newsletters, comics, kids' books, and more! Whitney shares a studio with Dean Haspiel in Brooklyn, and just recently published her short story collection, Trudy Sellout, as well as her collection of 2024 diary comics.

  • He's the man behind Minimum Wage and way more: it's Bob Fingerman! Bob started out early as a cartoonist and illustrator, leaving NYC's School of Visual Arts to produce work for publications like Cracked, Penthouse, Heavy Metal, National Lampoon and The Village Voice. But soon, he decided to focus on comics, breaking in with a year-long stint on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and shorter pieces for Eros Comix, Dark Horse, and Vertigo. His first graphic novel was a sci fi satire called White Like She, and then he created his semi-autobiographical series Minimum Wage, which he continues on and off through today. Since then, Bob's done a mix of comics and prose novels, often in the post-apocalyptic and zombie genres, and did some work at MAD Magazine.

And he's still going strong, with two new books published this year. You can still get That's Some Business You're In, his visual memoir, on Zoop: zoop.gg/c/bobfingerman. And Printopia, his first all-new graphic novel in over a decade has just been published by Cosmic Lion Productions. You can get it on the Cosmic Lion site or wherever books are sold.

You can follow Bob on his site, bobfingerman.com, and on Instagram @bobfingerman.

  • Boy, has returning guest Chris Ryall been busy! Not one, not two, but three projects are hitting just in time for the holidays. First up, it's the Deluxe Edition of the Origins of Marvel Comics, a reprint of the classic Stan Lee book with a new Alex Ross cover, multiple essays and interviews, and of course, the origin stories of some of our favorite heroes. Next, it's the Mighty Marvel Calendar Book: A Visual History, another look back at Marvel lore, reprinting the 1975-81 calendar in their entirety, plus loads of extras! And if editing these tomes wasn't enough, Chris is part of a one-shot anthology of Christmas horror tales called Dread the Halls, which you can find at your LCS starting Wednesday, 12/4!

If you didn't know, Mike started out in broadcasting, first on the radio and then as a TV reporter in Europe. After Madman-ing it for a decade, Mike made for Marvel next, where he collaborated with Peter Milligan on X-Force (later X-Statix), then Matt Fraction on FF, and Dan Slott on Silver Surfer. • The man, the myth, the father of Shi: that's right, it's Billy Tucci! Billy and Shi crashed onto the comics scene in 1994, and they never looked back. For the first dozen years, it was all about the half-Japanese, naginata-wielding woman warrior and her solo and crossover adventures. And crossovers there were: with Avengelyne, Gen-13, Cyblade, Daredevil, Grifter, Vampirella, Lady Death, and Wolverine, just to name a few! Billy eventually branched out to other publishers, working on Heroes for Hire at Marvel, and Jonah Hex, Birds of Prey, Harley Quinn, and Sgt. Rock: The Lost Battalion for DC. Now, for her 30th anniversary, he's putting together the craziest Shi book yet, the multiverse-spanning Shi: Gatecrasher.
