  • Kelly and Mark discuss this unforgettable episode. We Hope you enjoy it! In “A Place to Die,” the twelfth episode of Season 5 of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Dr. Michaela Quinn faces a crisis when a mysterious staph infection spreads through her clinic, causing the deaths of several patients. The episode begins with Franklin, a railroad station worker, dying from the infection after treatment for a splinter, followed by Mr. Jacobs, who succumbs after a hernia operation. Dorothy Jennings, treated for a minor cough, also falls gravely ill but survives. As fear grips Colorado Springs, townspeople avoid the clinic, suspecting it as the source of the outbreak. Dr. Mike, with help from Sully, Colleen, and Dr. Andrew Cook, investigates and traces the infection to contaminated items within the clinic, particularly the linens, after Mrs. Yung contracts it while cleaning sheets. Faced with no other solution, Dr. Mike makes the heart-wrenching decision to burn all the clinic’s contents, including her books and diplomas, and fumigates the building with sulfur to sterilize it. Though the town remains wary, Sully’s successful treatment for stitches begins to restore trust in Dr. Mike. Meanwhile, the episode explores the growing romance between Colleen, home from college, and Andrew, adding a lighter subplot amidst the medical drama. The story highlights Dr. Mike’s resilience and the community’s struggle with fear and loss in the face of an invisible threat.Director: Alan J. • Kelly and Mark rave about the 3-minute short Dr. Quinn, Morphine Woman, a hilarious parody we both adore and wish had more like it!Release Date: December 3, 2014 (United States), available on platforms like Prime Video.Director: Lauren Palmigiano (credited as LP).Writers: Lindsay Kearns (written by)Beth Sullivan (credited for characters created, as she was the creator of the original Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman).Producers: Dan Bernstein and Eleanor Winkler.Cinematographer: Jonathan Nicholas.Cast: Jane Seymour as Dr. Michaela QuinnJoe Lando as Byron SullyJonelle Allen as GraceOrson Bean as Loren BrayGeoffrey Lower as Rev. Timothy JohnsonHenry G. Sanders as Robert E.Charles Baker (known for Breaking Bad’s Skinny Pete) in a cameo.Runtime: 3 minutesProduction Company: Funny or Die, a comedy content platform known for satirical skits. The short humorously subverts the family-friendly tone of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (1993–1998), which starred Jane Seymour as a compassionate doctor in the Old West. In Dr. Quinn, Morphine Woman, Dr. Quinn has turned to prescribing morphine, cocaine, and whiskey, addicting the entire town. The parody mimics Breaking Bad’s visual and narrative style, with Quinn adopting a Walter White-esque persona, complete with dramatic close-ups and a drug-lord attitude. Key gags include Quinn forcing morphine on a patient with a minor injury and a Breaking Bad-style title card. The original cast’s return adds nostalgic appeal, while the exaggerated premise pokes fun at gritty TV reboots. Critics and fans found it a clever, if brief, send-up of both shows. The film has a 7.2/10 rating on IMDb and is lauded for its sharp satire and the cast’s commitment to the absurd premise. It’s a niche but entertaining piece for fans of the original series or Breaking Bad.
