We did it! At Javelina Jundred, I ran a 15:28 100-mile time with a negative split and came in 10th place male.
And I can now say that I got redemption after last year’s race that didn’t go well.
This podcast breaks down my training for the race, what it takes to improve on mistakes, how to train intently to get a PR at an ultramarathon distance, and how to overcome mental low points to turn a bad situation into your greatest triumph.
The point of this podcast isn’t just to recap the race; I put this out to inspire you to never give up on your big goals. Even when you fail along the way.
This result was years in the making, and I faced a lot of obstacles, self-doubt, and challenges along the way. But know that even if you face the same, you can overcome those things to run YOUR best race ever, get redemption, and feel fully fulfilled by the result you put out there.
Plus, we cover all of your questions on heat acclimation, nutrition and hydration, pacing, mindset, gear, and more!
Thank you so much for listening and for all of your support!

You can be the fittest runner in the world; but if you don't BELIEVE that you can actually accomplish your running goals, then the fitness won't pay off.
And it goes way more than just saying you believe - you have to really feel it internally. And there's a process you have to go through to do that.
In this episode, I share exactly how to do that and how to build belief, confidence, and strength to accomplish anything you want to in the ultrarunning world.
This is a reposted episode from the Real Wellness Podcast, which I am grateful for them for having me on!

What if your legs were able to run for longer periods of time before getting tired, sore, or fatigued?
That'd be pretty awesome. Because that would mean you'd be able to perform better, run faster, and likely get the results you're looking for in your next ultra.
But the problem is that a lot of runners don't set their legs up for success in their training to be durable. And even if they do the right things, they do it in a way that leads to injury, overuse, or underrecovery.
That's why in this episode, I'll break down how you can set up your training to increase durability, prevent muscular breakdown, and run stronger for longer.
Thank you so much for listening to the show!

Whenever we complete a race, it’s such an incredible high. People are cheering for us, while we have accomplished something incredible that means the world to us.
But after the confetti clears and the event ends, that high can wear away. And worse yet, our brains can sink to a level of post-race depression that feels really hard to kick.
For Brooks Bash, after he completed 100 marathons in 100 consecutive days and then ran 315 miles in the Speed Project, he faced this same issue. But took steps and got help to get himself into a better spot to love running again. And in this episode, Brooks shares how he was able to do that. Along with pushing through the low points that can come in an ultramarathon.Brooks Bash is the Founder of Earthy, which is an all-natural drink designed to give athletes sustained energy with no B.S. products. Brooks has also completed 100 marathons in 100 consecutive days, conquered the Speed Project solo of 315 miles in one shot, and has completed tons of other endurance accomplishments.

Is it possible to train for ultras AND get a Boston Qualifying time in the marathon? It sure is!Pierce Showe is a living example of that. Just months after completing the Triple Crown of 200’s (which is three 200+ mile races in three months), he put up a 2:52 marathon after switching his training to more of a marathon focus in such a short time.
So, in this episode, Pierce shares a deep look into his training for the sub-3 marathon attempt, what workouts he used to be successful, and lessons from ultras that helped him to accomplish his BQ.
He also shares how to pace a BQ marathon attempt and things to optimize like nutrition, hydration, and shoe choice, to maximize your chances of getting a BQ.
Pierce is an ultrarunner and endurance athlete who has completed the Triple Crown of 200’s, a Boston Qualifying Marathon time, multiple 100 mile races, and triathlons. Huge thank you to Pierce for coming on the show!

Running isn’t about just running; it’s about creating memories with amazing people. It’s about becoming a better family member. And it’s about challenging yourself to be the best version of yourself.
Jesse Itzler knows all about those things. Being a serial entrepreneur, part-owner of the Atlanta Hawks, endurance athlete, family man, and founder of All Day Running Co, he has created his life in the way he wants to.
Running has played a huge part in that for Jesse. He’s been running for over three decades, including 100 milers, last man standing races, marathons, triathlons, and so many other accolades.
And along the way, he’s learned lessons that have greatly impacted the way he is.
In this episode, we discuss how Jesse took those experiences to create the running event of the year: Runningman 2024. We also chat about why Jesse finds walking to be so powerful, how he finds endurance events, and what he does to find the people in his life who inspire him and make him better.
Huge thank you to Jesse for coming on the show!

For runners, going through injuries can be incredibly tough. It takes away one of the things we love the most, while also putting us in a place where we need to rebuild physically and mentally to get to where we were before.
But, it is possible to come back stronger than ever from injury. And even though it may be hard, trusting the process and being diligent with your recovery is something that can be implemented day by day.
For Jazmine Lowther, she bounced back from injury not only to return to running; but to also win her first major race back: the Speedgoat 50K, which is a highly competitive mountain race.
Throughout the rehab process, Jazmine learned to trust herself, her recovery, and the build back. And it allowed her to not only get through her injury, but to also come back strong to her old self.
In this episode, Jazmine shares how she came back from injury to set herself up for success at Speedgoat. We also chat about how she dialed in her training, nutrition, and strategy for the race. On top of that, we also discuss how to avoid RED-S in training, preparation for a mountain race like the UTMB finals, and how to dial your mindset in to take on tough challenges.
Huge thank you to Jazmine for coming on the show!

I completed the Ouray 100 miler this past weekend, and it's known as one of the hardest 100 milers in the US.
With 42,000 feet of climbing (more than Hardrock), being at an average altitude of 10,000 feet the entire time, and inclement weather, this race is absolutely no joke.
It was one of the hardest races of my life, and in this episode, I recap the epic journey and lessons from the race.
In this second part of this series, I cover how I pushed through the biggest mental lows of the race, how to feel better in a race when you feel terrible, and what the last moments in the race looked like.
