  • Episode 8.... is... great??

Cue the music... "you're as cold as ice.... something, something, something..."

This week we're joined by Ryan Burke, MS. Ryan is currently pursuing a PhD in Exercise Science from Rutgers University in New Jersey (Go Scarlett Knights!). He graduated with his Master's from the prestigious Applied Muscle Development Lab at Lehman University in the Bronx. Home of such distinguished scientists as Dr. Brad Schoenfeld, Dr. Pak, and Dr. Milo Wolf and future guest Max Coleman (someday soon a Doctor).

We had the opportunity this week to discuss a meta-analysis that was part of his Master's program on Palm and Sole cooling during resistance training HERE. The idea being that cooling through the distal limbs, can in theory cause cooling in the body's core temperature during exercise. Which could, potentially lead to greater inter-workout exertion, which MIGHT lead to more hypertrophy. It's very early and novel in the field but super interesting and cool (pun intended).

As an aside, since this conversation I have been bringing a bag of ice with me to every workout since (about 4 months now). Anecdotally this has made a MASSIVE difference in my relative performance and total work output workout to workout. Interpret that how you will, but it's extremely low risk (basically zero risk), and potentially high reward. Listen and maybe give it a shot in your next lift!

  • Episode 7... with another Doctor? What is this show... the Doctor show or something?? Over 50% doctors is a pretty good ratio for anyone keeping track.

This episode is from over 2 years ago. Before Milo was Dr. Milo and he was just "soon to be Dr. Milo". For various reasons it wasn't released, and the evidence since this initial conversation has changed drastically! I think it's very interesting though to see where Milo's ideas were at the time and where the industry is now... basically OBSESSED with lengthened partials.

So take a glimpse back in time before we knew this guy was going to change the world and it was all just speculation.

Dr. Milo Wolf is a scholar and lecturer and at Lehman College in NYC. He's one of the leading minds in "Lengthened Partial" training and recieved his PhD on that subject from Solent University in the UK. He currently works as a coach for "Stronger by Science", hosts the "Muscle & Feels" podcast with former guest and friend of the show Dr. Pak, and he's got one of the most controversial IG's in the fitness space. Definitely give him a follow and enjoy this weeks episode!

  • Episode 6... the dynasty continues.

This week I'm joined by some behemoths in the fitness industry. Mike and Corriebeth Lipowski are the owners of Pure Physique. A New York based group fitness franchise with a foundation in high intensity training principles. There are so many group fitness concepts out there, but there is NOTHING like Pure Physique. lt's truly evidence based personal training, with the power of 1on1, but the vibe of a small group environment.

Aside from running a successful fitness business this power couple have helped hundreds of clients get and stay healthy with their coaching programs. If you've ever wondered how to properly teach and structure a group fitness class, this episode is a must listen.

Pair high energy, high end equipment, and highly educated trainers and you will surely end up with something resembling Pure Physique. I couldn't be more excited to share their experience and energy with our listeners.

  • Episode 5... It's starting to get serious.

This week we have a special guest Dr. Ted Naiman. Dr. Ted is a primary care doctor outside of Seattle Washington and a leader in the health and nutrition space. These two things don't typically go together. Dr. Ted admits that his traditional schooling and training left him ill-prepared for an exceedingly, sick, fat and unhealthy US population. Thankfully through experience and some powerful interactions with clients he was able to open his mind to the powerful effects of proper diet and nutrition.

In this episode we explore that journey and what he's learned on the other side of it, culminating in his book "The P.E. Diet". Dr. Ted has learned and preaches the importance of protein satiety in overall food choice and selection. He also is huge advocate of simple, smart and efficient resistance training. Diet, exercise (resistance training and cardio) along with daily movement make up the foundation of the most effective tools we have for health and longevity.

I would highly recommend giving him a follow (all socials are @tednaiman) and buying his book "The P.E. Diet" (HERE), to learn how to take control of your health and wellness!

  • 4 episodes! Wow... this is like a series now huh?

Dr. Sean Preuss joins me on the show this week to discuss... A LOT! Sean has an EdD (like a PhD, but way cooler) in exercise science from UNC-Greensboro and has held a variety of high level jobs in the fitness industry. He's one of the leading minds in exercise science and a true advocate of an evidence based approach to exercise.

In this episode we discuss some common myths in fitness. Heavy weights versus light weights for tone and bulk, machines versus free-weights and strength training versus stretching for increasing range of motion. This episode is a MUST listen if you have dogmatic beliefs around anything involving exercise. Be prepared to have your foundation ROCKED!

  • Episode 3... we're really cooking here.

Jay Vincent is the founder and owner of the "Golden Era Physique System". Based out of Tampa, Florida, Jay is one of the leading voices in the High Intensity Training and Evidence Based Fitness space. He's also one of the few in the niche that also has the physique to back up the claims.

Jay is a former fitness model for brands like Under Armor, and now he specializes in helping men achieve their dream physiques with just a fraction of the time of traditional fitness programs.

In this episode we discuss a ton of different fitness industry BS. Unfortunately the fitness industry is filled with charlatans and snake oil salesmen. Jay has been around for a long time, and we discuss his experience with some of the biggest myths and misconceptions in the industry compared to what the research and practical experience actually shows.

This episode is filled with great nuggets and awesome information you won't want to miss!
