In this special episode, hosts Roman (@TimesRomanAU) and Adam (@mediumwatch) sit down for a chat with Alex Ku (@alexku.horology) - a pocket watch collector who has gathered a truly remarkable collection of historical pocket watches, which is currently on exhibition at the Horological Society of New York (@horologicalsocietyofny).
The “Pocket Genius Exhibition” is on display at HSNY until December 4 2023, and we would urge everyone who is able to visit in person to do so. Alex put together a personal world-class collection of pocket watches, comprising works by the absolute stars of the historical craft from Europe, USA and England: Abraham-Louis Breguet, Thomas Mudge, Le Roy, Berthoud, Thomas Thompion, John Arnold, George Graham, Albert Potter, and many others.
In our discussion, we chat with Alex about his collecting philosophy, how we decided to concentrate on pocket watches, the importance of escapements and mechanical ingenuity, and how his collection was assembled and prepared for the HSNY exhibition.
If you are a fan of horological scholarship - you will enjoy this.
Follow Alex Ku on his personal IG page (@alexku.horology), and make sure to check out the  “Pocket Genius Exhibition" (to visit or pick up a printed copy of the beautifully-produced catalog (also available for download as a PDF).
The Exhibition is on display (Free entry) at HSNY until December 4 2023.
