This week’s Local Selection comes from Brazilian-born Ortega, who delivers an hours live set of stripped-back, powerful house. The mix weaves in and out of syncopated synth lines, swirling acid, and Drexcyian electro euphoria.
Ortega, also known as Boomtz Boom, is a DJ and electronic music producer from Taboão da Serra, Brazil. His journey into dance music began at the age of nine in 1993, eventually leading him to pursue DJing in 2006.
By 2012, Ortega had made his mark on São Paulo’s club scene and became a key member of the Smile Collective, where he immersed himself in the city’s vibrant club culture. In 2016, he shifted focus to production, blending elements of electro, house, techno, and acid with latin, jazz, funk, and disco influences.
Ortega has played at several notable festivals and venues, including Electric Picnic, Tengu, Wigwam, Fidelity, and Skol Beats Factory, sharing the stage with many of his musical idols.
His production highlights include the 2017 album Diggin’ For Beats Batuque with Beat Maker Rasec, and three EPs released between 2021 and 2023, including Tropic Lines, a collaboration with Bunny Kawaii. In 2024, Ortega was invited by Kawaii to run the label Canario Records. Under his Boomtz Boom alias, he has also released a series of singles on his Bandcamp.
Ortega’s live set is steeped in deep, rolling basslines and intricate percussive grooves, as he expertly navigates the journey through hypnotic, atmospheric breakdowns and nuanced, minimalistic power. The hour mix showcases a producer and performer who has earned his stripes, shifting through various moods and crafting a seamless journey where it was hard to tell where one track began and the next ended. The result was a persistent, organic flow that kept the crowd locked in, with each drift feeling natural and free-flowing.

The IMF label closes out a superb 2024 with another vital collection of essential techno sounds curated by founder Marcel Fengler. HARDPROOF VA 07 once again follows its vision, bringing together the techno stars of tomorrow with some of the genre's most consistently innovative pioneers. Felicie is shaping modern techno on many different fronts: the Amsterdam-based Frenchwoman has hosted her own Fastgroove Klub project at Rex Club and dropped her hugely intense signature sounds on the likes of Exhale and Mord. Her fantastic 'Komodo' rides on dubbed-out drum loops with scruffy kicks and mind-melting percussive patterns adding to the intensity. It's fast but nuanced and packed with deft designs.

Jay has tirelessly dedicated himself to carving out a niche as an emerging force in the world of house music over the last few years. This has led him to share the stage with some of the genre’s most illustrious acts such as Eats Everything, Sam Divine, Route 94, Danny Howard, Sosa and so on.
Playing at international venues such as Mansion Mallorca and Plastik Ibiza, to a host of venues in Liverpool and every corner of Ireland which includes Belfast, Galway and Kerry, Jay has made a significant stamp in the music industry in his chosen scene. Despite being relatively new to the realm of production, 2025 looks promising for him to continue building on his current wave of momentum, we are excited to see and hear what the future holds for this young artist.
While house tends to be Jay’s musical cornerstone, his sonic palette extends far beyond the genre. Our latest entry to the Four Four Local Selection welcomes Aran Mannion (MANNIO) to the series. The 22-year-old DJ and producer from Galway has provided us with an hour long recording for the 255th edition, tipping his hat to his Irish roots as well as traversing through elements of techno and trance throughout.
Coming from a singer-songwriter background initially, MANNIO is well versed in the realm of live music and instruments as he has experience in playing the guitar and piano, which has stood to him in discovering his distinct style in an electronic sense. Allowing him to switch between genres and view DJing through a lens that has less focus on barriers with certain sounds.
MANNIO has also co-founded the Galway-based club night Tús (Irish for beginning) Collective just over a year ago alongside the parties other co-founder Dylan Buckley. During this time they have ran a host of parties across Galway in Cellar, DNA, Cuba and Electric. They've joined forces with Dublin-based party Instinct on multiple occasions strengthening the link between Dublin and Galway dance music collectives while also welcoming acts like DATSKO and Tara Casey to their parties. Not to mention numerous other local artists in the process.
With his first release planned to release in early 2025, it will be interesting to see where MANNIO's musical journey takes him.

His entry to the Local Selection Mix is a dynamic journey through various club sounds, starting with funk-laden tribal techno before transitioning into the harder, more closed-fisted early 00s techno. As the mix progresses, FAXE ON FAXE eases up on the upfront intensity, allowing the melodies and euphoria to shine through with trance and euro-dance-influenced techno. The latter part of the mix stays in this euphoric realm, giving tracks space to breathe while offering a glimpse of his housier tip, all while maintaining a faster, more smouldering energy.

Hailing from Ringsend in Dublin, Kayleigh Glynn has been a constant in Dublin's electronic music scene for many years. She boasts a decade of experience, where she honed her skills at Pierce Rooney's electronic music school RMS during this time.
Kayleigh recently earned the status as an international DJ, as she played at Ibiza Rocks earlier this year alongside Irish chart topper and star, Jazzy. Not to mention appearances at Electric Picnic as well as frequent gig performances at Index, Hangar, Sin, Warehouse Dublin and Sexy Dancing over the years. Cementing herself as one of the most technically apt and varied house music selectors to come out of Dublin in recent times. She's also shared line-ups with some of the industries leading artists which include Belters Only, Franky Rizardo and Morgan Seatree which is a testament to her quality and consistent output as a DJ.
Her recording for the Local Selection is meticulously done. Building the energy up for the duration right from the off. Making use of her vast library, she incorporates numerous atmospheric selections and immersive tunes as the recording progresses, which ties in with this continual build in energy. Viki Dos Santos has quickly established herself as a dynamic force within Dublin's nightlife scene, despite starting her DJ journey just over a year ago. This is a testament to her infectious energy and passion for music has quickly captivated audiences across Europe from Dublin to Andorra as well as the world’s most iconic music scene, Ibiza.
In this brief period, she has shared stages with renowned artists DJ Swisherman, Janis Zielinski, Jude Bradshaw, Daire, and Mezer the Architect. This has also allowed her to play for a range of parties which include Reboot, Lost and Hidden Love. Her high-energy sets, fuses her love for a variety of genres that she’s constantly toggling between. Often hearing bits of house, disco, hard house, garage and more during her sets. The 250th edition of the Four Four Magazine Local Selection is here, and we are ecstatic to showcase the Drogheda-based DJ and producer Hunteryx as the latest entry to the series. Find yourself encapsulated by his distinct style which stems from the house and techno era of the 90s and 00s.
Having burst onto Ireland’s techno scene over the past 12 months, Hunteryx has impressed a range of dancers, DJs and producers alike with his fast-paced, nostalgia-driven discography taking inspiration from the golden age of dance music. Gathering support from the likes of Yasmin Gardezi, Skin On Skin and Shampain during this short span of time. Constantly improving in every way, Hunteryx found himself making his festival debut this summer at Otherside’s One In The Woods with Research and Slither while earning lucrative support slots for Sunil Sharpe, Fjaak and DJ Plant Texture too.
This recording is a fine display of where Hunteryx finds himself stylistically at the moment. Quick, snappy mixing as he bounces between tracks with groove at its core. This weeks Local Selection welcomes Dublin DJ and producer Daniel Mc Dermott to the series. This rising artist has supplied a resounding recording which showcases his sleek, groove-laden flavour of techno.
Dublin-based Daniel Mc Dermott is our latest addition to the Four Four Local Selection Mix Series, as he distributes a number of groove infused club cuts over the course of this gratifying recording. Daniel does a fantastic job at weaving this mix together in a technically excellent manner. He manages to keep the energy high and driving, which can easily imitate the atmosphere of a packed, dimly lit basement.
Daniel has also recently started his journey as a music producer in recent times and has quickly managed to release two respectable singles in ‘Worked’ and ‘Northside’ more recently. Not to mention his involvement in Dublin collective Outmoded which is dedicated to highlighting the infectious old-school techno sound. As a producer, his sound focuses on dance-driven drum work along with choppy, gated vocals which are ideal for the dance floor.

Limerick-based electronic duo 40hurtz and rapper Hazey Haze are gearing up to release one of the year’s most anticipated projects, a Berghain-inspired record, this Thursday. Known for their experimental approach, the collaboration fuses the bass-heavy energy of Limerick’s dubstep and grime scenes with the industrial, techno-infused sounds of Berlin’s Berghain.
Inspired by a surprise booking at Berlin’s legendary Berghain, 40hurtz and rapper Hazey Haze dove into the studio to create a fresh batch of tracks, gearing up for their performance at the CTM Festival in February 2024. The result is an album that fuses 40hurtz’s hard-edged, groove-laced UK-influenced production with Hazey Haze’s gritty, hard-hitting lyricism.
40hurtz, known for his innovative and uncompromising production, has crafted a collection of tracks that push boundaries, delving into the darker, more atmospheric side of electronic music while preserving a distinctly Irish edge. Teaming up with Hazey Haze added the final touch, infusing the project with sharp, witty lyricism and a vernacular rooted in Irish culture. Together, they deliver a sound that is both bold and unmistakably tied to the Emerald Isle.
40hurtz said “A product of a crazy gig booking, and not wanting to bring old music to Berghain. Myself and Haze Locked ourselves away for a month and a half and crafted some songs worthy of the legendary venue. For the 248th Local Selection Mix, we present London-based DJ-CK. Lock in for an hour of relentless, high-octane energy featuring bouncing techno, trance, progressive house, and hardhouse, all woven together in the spirit of the playful parties DJ-CK frequents.
Ciara, better known as DJ-CK, is a Cork native who has been making her mark in London for the past three years. A respected figure in East London’s music scene, she is a resident DJ at the Queen Adelaide and a key member of the Tea Break group. DJ-CK also hosts “trans~late,” a monthly party that features both seasoned and emerging trans DJs, providing an inclusive platform for artists at all stages of their careers.
DJ-CK has been racking up a nice CV of past gigs with performances at numerous prominent venues and parties within London’s queer scene, including Riposte, Dalston Superstore, and Joyride Rave at Corsica Studios. After making her Irish debut in December at Machina in Cork, she returned this summer for a standout appearance as part of the Foxgluv takeover at Providencia during Electric Picnic.
The rising DJ also holds residencies at two radio stations, Voices Radio and AAJA, where she highlights Irish and queer guests each month. While her early DJing was centred around hardgroove adjacent techno, her sound evolved significantly during her time in London. Her shows now feature a diverse range of genres, including UKG, techno, trance, and progressive house.
DJ-CK’s entry into the Local Selection Mix is a rich tapestry of her diverse influences, seamlessly blending elements of her early love for 00’s techno with 90’s trance, progressive house, and beyond. Chaz Moloney has emerged as one of Ireland’s most exciting newcomers in 2024, despite having been a staple in the Irish techno scene for the past decade. Inspired by the many landscapes of underground culture, Chaz has tirelessly pushed the boat out for himself and his city. His bohemian attitude seeps into every facet of life, bringing a handcrafted approach to the many projects he’s been involved in throughout his years involved in club culture.
Moloney has ditched DJing for the time being and pushed himself headfirst into live performance, creating yet another new challenge for an artist who thrives on adversity. Chaz’s journey from his studio to the stage has not been simple; after months of isolated discipline, Chaz can hold up his hands and say he has created a sound and concept that is truly unique, a sentiment that is dear to him.
