  • I’m unpacking my biggest career regrets. Things about my career as a physician assistant (now physician associate) that I’ve never shared before. It’s easy to look back and think, “If I had only known then what I know now, I could have made smarter choices.” But here’s the thing: regrets don’t have to define you. Instead, they can be powerful tools for growth and learning. By reflecting on what didn’t work or what could have been better, we can help others avoid the same mistakes—and in turn, set them up for success.SPONSORSCREATED COLORFUL CONSULT: https://createdcolorful.myshopify.com/discount/TRACY AAPA CAREER CENTRAL: https://www.aapa.org/careercentral COACHING1-ON-1 NEGOTIATION CONSULT https://calendly.com/the-pa-is-in/negotiate FREE 30-MINUTE COACHING CONSULT https://calendly.com/the-pa-is-in/gen-call LINKSEPISODE BLOG POST https://www.tracybingaman.com/blogTRACY ON INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/mrstracybingaman/TRACY ON LINKEDIN https://www.linkedin.com/in/tracybingaman/

  • In PA school we learned the first treatment to almost every disease is lifestyle modifications. But why do we wait until a patient receives a diagnosis instead of being proactive about starting lifestyle modifications earlier? How do we actually help patients follow through with making effective lifestyle modifications? What do we do if we know we need to make changes in our own lifestyles?

My guest today is here to answer these questions and more! Dr. Jennifer Harrington is a PA with 25 years of experience and has held pivotal roles in professional leadership, advocacy, and PA education. She worked in rural medicine for many years and is now a PA program director, following her passion for education. She also runs her own non-profit, Called to Serve, organizing medical missions trips.

Dr. Harrington shares how she was able to prevent burnout by creating routines and habits that focus on nutrition and quality self care. In order to effectively carry out her several roles and responsibilities, Dr. Harrington discusses how she learned the importance of taking care of herself so that she can better take care of others.

Do you want to learn the keys of how to become a happier and healthier PA? Tune into today’s episode to learn what you can start implementing today!

  • 75% of American adults are overweight or obese. With that statistic, we will definitely treat overweight or obese patients, regardless of our specialties. But how do we discuss weight with our patients? Many PAs feels nervous about discussing a patient’s weight and don’t know how to approach what can be a very sensitive and emotionally-charged topic.

That’s why I have Elena Sullivan on the podcast today to lead a masterclass in talking about obesity with compassion. Elena has been working as a PA in obesity and lifestyle medicine for 4 years. She shares how to focus on longitudinal whole person care with our patients. Elena defines weight bias and stigma, and how we can identify our own biases in order to best care for our patients.

I learned so much from my conversation with Elena on the best ways to discuss obesity, weight loss and health with my patients, and also how to apply these tools to my own life. But my biggest takeaway from Elena’s masterclass on obesity? Elena believes that the biggest weight one can lose is that of others’ opinions and criticism of our own selves.
