Just after midnight on January 29th John O'Keefe was dropped off after a night out at two bars at a fellow Boston Police Officer's home by his girlfriend Karen Read. What happened on that rop off and the following hours is of much debate. Investigators and the prosecution allege that Karen hit John with her SUV when she dropped him off and left him for dead while others believe that John's death was the result of something else and that the investigation was an elaborate cover-up to pin everything on Karen while taking the blame away from other officers. At the first trial the jury was unable to come to a verdict and so a second court case is scheduled to start in Janaury of 2025. Sadly, more and more it seems that there are murders occuring in the world around us when people believe that they know how to outsmart the system and beat the crime. This week's case is certainly one of those as we look the case of Samantha Wohlford who alleged that she had suffered abuse at the hands of her husband Ernie Lee Ibarra Jr. in the past. It is unclear whether that abuse had stopped or if things got out of Samantha's control but at the end of the day she was a part of planning a murder and for someone who aspired to be an actress for her entire life she certainly wasn't a very good one. On December 6th, 1989 a man would find his way inside of the École Polytechnique, on the campus of The University of Montreal, and he would take the lives of fourteen women and he would also injure ten more women and four men. The shooter, known as Marc Lépine was driven by hatred towards feminists and feminism as well as the mere thought of women attempting to achieve jobs in what he considered to be male dominated and male DESERVED fields. Over the years people have argued about what his real motive is, but the reality is that his own words laid out quite succinctly what he was doing and what his plans were on December 6th.
