In this first episode of our two-parter with body image coach Christina Montalvo, we talk about the failures of something else: the diet culture industry. Christina shows us just how ingrained dieting is in our lives and mindsets - and we ask some big questions about emotions, labeling, and comparison when it comes to our bodies and our food. Stay tuned for Part 2!

IT'S OUR BIRTHDAY!! Well, technically the podcast turns one on September 15th. But this is the closest Wednesday to that so... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, US!! It's been an amazing year talking to you about failure - we're beyond moved by all the conversations we've had and all the people we've met since starting How to Fail!.
This special birthday episode features us talking about how the new Mister Rogers documentary - Won't You Be My Neighbor - affected us as individuals and as podcasters. We talk about feelings and how they are "mentionable and manageable," we get to the bottom of puppetry, we ask what it takes to be brave enough to admit our emotions, and we come to the conclusion: it's worth it to love loudly. Listen until the end for a special surprise!
We'd love to hear what you think of this episode! Share a screenshot of you listening via your podcast app and tag us on Instagram - @howtofailpodcast ! We'd also love it if you'd leave a review on iTunes or Stitcher - that's the best way to get the show out there. Thank you so much for supporting us and sharing your stories with us this past year! We're humbled and excited for what's next.
PS: Wanna support the documentary? Rent or buy it on iTunes!

Whether talking about failure, the internet, or hard work, Danielle makes it clear in this episode that you can't edit out the humanity from what you do. Our humanity is what connects us and our humanity is what fails us. Danielle gives us a bit of tough love during our conversation and reminds us that starting where we are with whatever we have is the best course of action. Oh, and she to this day takes very good care of her American Girl Dolls.

In our second installment of Pillow Talk with Tina & Kristin, we get our pillows out and chat about Kristin's wedding stress (she has a lot of complaints) and, relatedly, the Netflix true crime docu-drama The Staircase. A few things Kristin complains about include: gift registries, bridesmaid dresses, feeling like no one cares, the dowry issue, and how expensive weddings are. Tina indulges and talks about how much she loves showering.
If you want to give advice on the wedding side or conspire about The Staircase, message us on Instagram! We're @howtofailpodcast. If you want to check this episode out on our website and read the show notes, head to howtofailpodcast.co/episode35!

Jen Hatzung joined us on the podcast to talk something woo: affirmations! We chat with Jen about the power of words, how something failing doesn't make you a failure as a person, and noticing if your feelings about something match up with the facts. By the end of the episode, Jen may have even turned Kristin into an affirmations believer. Read the show notes at howtofailpodcast.co/episode34!

In this episode, Cher Hale - publicist and Italian immersion tour leader - chats with us about something most of us have experienced: being dumped and the aftermath. In Cher's story, the relationship was short but the rejection affected all aspects of her life and led to a few failures that still sting. About Cher:
Cher Hale is a publicist who helps authors, activists, and artists tug at more heartstrings + get more eyeballs on their work. She specializes in writing cold (but heartfelt!) pitches and has landed interviews on outlets like The Unmistakable Creative, goop, and NBC. When she’s not writing emails, you can find her re-watching Remember the Titans, playing with her cat Totoro, or hiking somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.

In Episode 32, we talk about the idea of "niceness" - whether we were considered nice or not growing up, what niceness even means, and how terms like it are not nearly descriptive enough to get to the core of what a person is like. We get into the nitty gritty about how what we tell ourselves, our friends, or our children can impact them for a long time after. Moral of the story: you are not defined by how nice you are and there is no one thing that describes your whole self. To read the show notes, head to howtofailpodcast.co/episode32!

In Episode #31, we talk to Maggie Frank-Hsu of Blogs to Riches about the stories we tell to convince ourselves we aren't good enough. She tells us everything from her job with Gourmet magazine to her brush with communism in Hungary - and reassures us that nobody's path is a straight line. To read more about Maggie and check out the show notes, head to howtofailpodcast.co/episode31!

In this episode, we chat with negotiation consultant Devon Smiley about some hefty topics: value and worth, gender stereotypes around negotiating, and pre-Drake Degrassi. Devon talks to us about asking for what we need and going after the 'no,' because it means you're pushing far enough. You can find Devon on Instagram @devonmsmiley or at devonsmiley.com. This week, Tina + Kristin chat with Kyla Neill of Succeeding in Heels about her transition from working woman to working mom and what it looks like to move from Australia to Dubai and start a new career in the process. Kyla shares that anyone can achieve what they want to achieve - you just have to jump in and get started! To read more about Kyla and check out the show notes, go to howtofailpodcast.co/episode28!

In this solo (duo?) episode, we talk about the idea of fame, wanting to be famous, and whether it's bad to want that. To read the show notes, head to howtofailpodcast.co/episode27 !

This week, we chat with Keneshia Raymond - wedding creatives educator and founder of Curvy Unicorn Bridal - about her why: why not? Keneshia is full of so much hard-earned wisdom, but the question she asks herself, "Why not you? Who else is going to do it if you don't?" sticks with us hard. She is a fierce body positivity advocate and doesn't love the idea of a romper, so of course this episode is one to play on repeat. To learn more about Keneshia and read the show notes, go to howtofailpodcast.co/episode26 !

As part of our 25th Episode (Part 2!), we're hosted by illustrator and designer Alyssa Nutile, who has been a listener since the first episode! We're so happy to have Alyssa on the show to ask us all the terribly difficult and probably overly personal questions we ask our guests every week. Thank you for listening and for supporting this podcast for 25 episodes! To read the show notes and learn more about Alyssa, go to howtofailpodcast.co/episode25-2 !

On today's episode (the first of a two-parter!) Kristin + Tina chat solo about how their ideas of failure have changed since starting the podcast. They talk personal failures, what they'd like to see happen with the podcast, and Kristin tells Tina how to correctly pronounce Ben Affleck's name. Stay tuned next week for part 2!

This week we chat with Leslie Wong, cofounder of self care-focused (and sizing inclusive) lingerie brand Burgundy Fox Co, about that moment when you first truly feel weird in your body and how life is made up of a lot of little failures. She shares so much wisdom on how your numbers on the scale don't mean anything of value and don't tell you the kind of person you are. We loved talking with Leslie and can't wait to potentially partner in the future with Burgundy Fox Co! For show notes and to read more about Leslie, head to howtofailpodcast.co/episode24

Danielle LaRock has done Eat, Pray, Love. She's done Wild. She's gone on every adventure that has a book written about it (basically), so talking to her about her idea of practical magic was illuminating and so much fun. We love how Danielle considers failure just another adventure - and we definitely think she should have her own podcast. Learn more about Danielle and read the show notes at howtofailpodcast.co/episode23.

Lucy Dunne is so cool. She's inspirational, super friendly, and from Australia - so that tells you everything you need to know. Lucy talks with us this week about when she wanted to quit, what it means to find what's right for you (not what looks right for everyone else online), and how showing up is the bravest thing you can do. Learn more about Lucy and read the show notes at howtofailpodcast.co/episode22.
