Tesla's earnings are hot off the press! Revenue of $25.5B (+2.3%) and profits of $1.6B. On the earnings call CEO Elon Musk stressed the importance of FSD, and how its set to transform Tesla's business. He confirmed the Robotaxi unveiling will be on 10/10, and provided an update on Optimus, saying it will begin Version 1 production in 2025, and Version 2 production to outside customers in 2026. Overall the call was a little boring. We are in a quiet/chill period for Tesla until 2025 when the cheaper model & robotaxi launch. I think a big catalyst may be brewing with another OEM licensing Tesla's FSD. Back on the lake in 90+ degree heat in Seattle pondering Tesla stocks zoom to $250+ per share, and $800B valuation. In this episode I explain my metaphor for analyzing stocks as Pokemon to understand businesses, and layering that framework to understand Tesla. The trifecta of technology pillars that Elon & squad have developed (battery and driving train, self driving & mass market sustainable manufacturing) are combining to disrupt transportation, energy and soon labor (with the Optimus robot). Owning Tesla equity is owning a basket of technologies that are only getting more relevant and whose monetization is on the cusp or ramping dramatically. Supercharging rant about how awesome it was to rent a Tesla on Turo and FSD to Grammy's house instead of taking the bus there. And it was only $240! ($290 including post trip supercharging reimbursement) vs ~$220 for the bus. And it took less time because the bus stops (and I didn't have to subway to the bus station). Shoutout Turo! Elon Musk is betting on Tesla's autonomous future. The company is going all out to perfect its FSD technology and launch a Uber competitor/ride-sharing app later this year. After hearing Elon's excitement on FSD V12, on the conference call, mentioning the Cybercab, and stressing how important it was for investors to understand ... I've been doing homework on Tesla's self driving tech. I stumbled across the BG2 podcast, Episode 4 about Tesla's FSD v12, which does an INSANELY good job breaking down the incredible progress in Tesla's underlying tech, and how this is Tesla's 'ChatGPT' moment with real world AI. The BG2 podcast is hosted by Bill Gurley and Brad Gerstner. I highly recommend checking it out!!

Tesla Q1 2024 earnings are hot off the press! Tesla crushes it with a surprise $1B+ GAAP profit, strong guidance and and absolutely legendary conference call. Tesla is going all in on FSD with the new V12 rewrite, and its Robotaxi event on 8/8, where it looks like the 'Cybercab' will be unveiled. Elon Musk shocked Tesla fans and shareholders on the earnings call when he said the new cheaper vehicle would be ready for production as soon as late 2024 or early 2025. What are your thoughts on the quarter!? I was so stoked I bought $2,000 worth of Tesla stock today!! Also a little bit of a sad call at the end with head of IR Martin Viecha leaving the company.

It's going to be a rough 2 years for Rivian. I decided to sell my tiny position, as I think dilution is coming. Rivian has only ~$9B in cash, and is burning $1.4B per quarter. The company can't make money on it's $100K R1S & R1T, so I'm not convinced they will be able to make a profit on the $45,000 R2. I love the company and brand, but the business is really struggling right now, and I'm worried shareholders could get screwed if dilution ramps up. Let me know your thoughts on Rivian, and the comparison to Tesla below!!

Rivian has officially unveiled it's R2, a $45,000 electric vehicle set to debut in 2026. It was an epic unveiling event, and very highly anticipated by the whole EV community. Rivian didn't just unveil it's R2, but CEO/Founder RJ Scaringe also unveiled a totally new, even smaller R3 platform. This was super unexpected, and paves way for the ultra-performance R3X. There's a lot to digest here forsure, but one thing is clear, Rivian is onto something big. I went to a live-screening of the even and the hype was palpable. If Rivian can work through its financial troubles and deliver an amazing R2 for $45,000 this will be a huge success. Shoutout to Rivian!

Interview with Sampriti Bhattacharyya, whose electric flying boat startup, Navier, promises to transform how we move people and goods in our coastal cities. In just 4 years, Navier has gone from concept to entering production. The Alameda, CA based startup has already signed a deal to shuttle Strip employees back and forth across the bay. This is our newest HyperGuap investment (my VC firm) and I couldn't be more fired up about the potential! I rode in a Navier in SF and was blown away at the product, smooth, quiet, and luxurious ... transforming what it means to be on a boat. The company's mission is to be America's next great maritime company, I hope they crush it!!

Tesla stock crumbled 12% after Q4 2024 earnings. Guidance for a lower growth rate in deliveries has analysts missing the bigger picture. On the conference call Tesla announced that both its $25K robotaxi product and Tesla Optimus robot could begin production as soon as 2025! This is huge news for long term shareholders.

This Elon control/voting power conversation has me SCHEMIN. What if Tesla just did a massive share buy back to reduce its share-count (giving Elon more % control). It might be too early, and would have to start slow, but in the long run this seems like an inevitable way to return capital to shareholders. What's your take on this?
