It is a privilege to welcome singer-songwriter Michael Lazar to The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.
Michael is a Miami-based singer-songwriter whose music blends pop, theater, and poetry into something deeply personal. His critically acclaimed debut album, 51/49, chronicled an 18-year journey through grief, reinvention, and healing – an autobiographical song cycle born from Michael’s move to New York City to study musical theatre at NYU, his countless Broadway auditions, and even a devastating apartment fire. His latest extended play, Daydreaming, is scheduled for release on July 25, 2025. The title track combines wistful piano melodies with atmospheric synths while capturing the emotional pull of imagined love.
The full EP expands on the themes introduced in the single, offering a cohesive six-song journey through longing, hope, and personal transformation. From the golden-hour shimmer of “Magic Hour” to the pulsing ache of “Want Me Back,” Lazar crafts a pastel-toned sonic world grounded in vulnerability. The EP also features a reimagined version of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” a tender reflection in “By My Side,” and concludes with “Life of the Butterfly,” a poetic meditation on growth and letting go.
All six tracks were written, performed, and produced by Lazar. The EP was mastered by Michael Banks of UEFO, whose previous work on Lazar’s 2021 debut album, 51/49, helped establish the warmth and emotional clarity that have become hallmarks of his sound.
On this episode of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Michael Lazar spoke about Daydreaming’s recording process, performing alongside future Avengers actor Chris Evans and Scott Evans, during his childhood. He also explained why he declares Britney Spears, Jewel, and Tori Amos make up his trifecta of inspiration.

It is a privilege to welcome Reality TV veteran and writer, producer, and director James Sunshine to The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.
After graduating as valedictorian from his film school, James moved to Los Angeles in 2012 with no job, no car, nowhere to live, and an overdrawn bank account. Over a decade later, he has become a creative powerhouse in film and TV, breaking into the industry as a producer on some of the biggest Reality TV Shows of all time, including Big Brother 18, Hell’s Kitchen, Project Runway, Supermarket Superstar, and Total Divas.
In 2020, he wrote, directed, and edited his debut indie film Coronavirus Conspiracy during the height of the 2020 lockdowns. Distributed by Lionsgate, the satire became the first union-approved independent film shot in Los Angeles after the lockdown.
Recently, James released his latest film, Killing Mary Sue. The film focuses on a corrupt senator (Dermot Mulroney) who arranges for the murder of his most significant liability, his erratic burnout stepdaughter (Sierra McCormick), only for her to unwittingly discover her natural talents as an untouchable killer. The film also stars French Stewart, Jason Mewes, Kym Whitley, and Martin Kove. Killing Mary Sue won the Best Picture Award at the Independent Filmmakers Showcase at the Los Angeles Film Fest.
On this episode of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, James Sunshine spoke about his experiences on Big Brother and Hell’s Kitchen, the behind-the-scenes process of Coronavirus Conspiracy, and previewing Killing Mary Sue.

Born and raised in Seattle and now based in Los Angeles, Maya is a first-generation Korean American artist redefining the landscape of pop music. It is a privilege to welcome The Empty Pockets to the Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.
Guitarist and vocalist Josh Solomon, keyboardist and vocalist Erika Brett, bassist and vocalist Nate Bellon, and drummer Adam Balasco make up the Chicago-based band line-up. They ignite a bright flame of their own by harnessing a joyful friction between Americana, folk, and rock ‘n’ roll spiked with roots soul.
They’ve honed their signature style across albums such as The Ten Cent Tour [2015], Voices [2017], Snow Day [2018], Tanglewoods [2019], and Live In Seattle [2019]. After bowing in the Top 10 of the Heatseekers Albums Chart and Americana/Folk Chart, they delivered their first number one when Outside Spectrum toppled the Billboard Blues Albums Chart in 2022 and their second number one with Gotta Find The Moon in 2024. Along the way, the Empty Pockets not only backed the likes of Al Stewart, Gary Wright, and Simon Kirke (with whom they have made records with to boot), but they also appeared on PBS Soundstage with Kenny Loggins.
During 2022, Pollstar touted them among its Top International Live streamers. Touching down on multiple continents, they have supported comedy legend George Lopez, alternative phenomenon Portugal. The Man, and many more.
On this episode of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, the Empty Pockets spoke about releasing their latest album, Live in Buffalo, the stories behind their most-streamed songs on Spotify, and supporting Al Stewart on his final worldwide tour.

In the Summer of 2006, NBC aired America’s Got Talent (AGT), a small talent show.
Following hundreds of auditions in front of then-judges Piers Morgan, Brandy, and David Hasselhoff, fans chose singer Bianca Ryan to win the show’s inaugural season. Little did everyone know how big of a phenomenon this show has become.Thousands of acts have auditioned in front of 12 judges and countless audience members. Singers, ventriloquists, magicians, comedians, choirs, dance troupes, and hand balancers have graced the AGT stage.
However, as someone who has watched the series since its inception and covered the show since 2012, only 100 acts stood out.

A Note for Jacob: Since my second podcast recording with Matt, I am pleased to report that General Admission Seating for the May 5 event is SOLD OUT!!
It is a pleasure to welcome actor Matt DeAngelis back to The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.
Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Matt grew up on showtunes and Boston sports. Matt studied theatre at the University of Southern Maine and The Boston Conservatory before heading down Route 95 to NYC in 2004. In June 2009, Matt got the call to make his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning production of HAIR with Tony Award winner Diane Paulus at the helm. Matt continued with that production, “Across the Atlantic Sea,” to the West End in the role of “Woof” and then launched the first national US Tour of HAIR and was seen back on Broadway in the “Summer of Love” revival of HAIR.
Following his time with the hippies, Matt launched the first national tour of Green Day’s AMERICAN IDIOT as the “Representative from Jingletown”. Matt’s cross-country adventures continued in 2014 with the first national tour of ONCE, where he played “Svec” and five instruments. Over the last five years, Matt has been a veteran of almost 2,000 performances. Thankfully, Matt returned home to Broadway (again with Diane Paulus) in the hit musical WAITRESS, where he starred opposite Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller, two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz, and seven-time Grammy nominee and the show’s composer, Sara Bareilles. He then toured the country with the WAITRESS National Tour as Earl opposite his real-life wife, Christine Dwyer, as Jenna. Upon returning from the road, Matt was a part of developing the World Premiere of The Secret Life of Bees at The Atlantic Theatre Company, directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold. He also appeared in Orpheus Descending at Theatre for a New Audience.
Matt DeAngelis also started the Janice Jam in memory of his mother, Janice, who passed from metastatic breast cancer in 2022. This annual event channels the magic of Broadway to honor those we've lost, uplift those fighting, and fund critical research. This event serves as a yearly celebration of Janice, her love for theater, and raising money for those affected by metastatic breast cancer. On May 5, 2025, a group of Broadway all-stars will join Matt and Christine for this event. Golden Globe and Oscar-winning actor Ariana DeBose, Tony winner John Gallagher, Jr., Tony-nominated actors Jeremy Jordan and Jenn Colella, Caroline Bowman, Kara Lindsay, Krysta Rodriguez, Omar Jose Cardona, Rachel Potter, and Stark Sands are expected to perform.
On this episode of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Matt DeAngelis previewed the 2025 Janice Jam, revealed this year’s music director, and explained how you can support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
