  • Have you ever considered all the places where highly purified water is needed? Apart from academic institutes, biotech and pharma companies, pure and ultrapure water are also being used in quite unexpected locations: from crime labs to amusement parks, and labs that are culturing meat.
In this episode, your host Monica Joch interviews Bob Ventura, an Applications Specialist based in Southern California, and Tracy Jolson, a Sales Specialist in New York City. Bob and Tracy tell us about the most interesting places they have placed water purification systems. Bob explains how endotoxin-free water is used to make lab-grown "fish". Tracy goes into the scientific aspects of art conservation and explains how museums use deionized water to clean paintings, coins, and anything from archaeological sites.

In our Troubled Waters segment, Marta Inês Carqueijeiro, a scientist and PhD, talks about how water quality can be a source of experimental variation when trying to reproduce results from another lab.

  • In this episode, Estelle Riché, PhD and Applications Expert, reveals the Golden Rules when handling highly purified water. You’ll learn the ideal place to install a water system, the right container for your analyses, and how to make sure bottles are clean to avoid contamination. Estelle also addresses special considerations if analyzing PFAS (“forever chemicals”).

In our Troubled Waters segment, Cecilia Devaux, Applications Expert, talks about the type of sampling flasks that should be used for specific applications and explains why rinsing is critical for trace analyses.

  • In the lab, much time and effort are spent designing and planning experiments, selecting reagents, etc. But how often do scientists pause to ensure they’re working with the correct water quality for their analyses? Daniel Darbouret is a Senior Scientific Director who has been working with Milli-Q® Lab Water Solutions portfolio for over 30 years. In this episode, Daniel explains why purified water is critical to scientists in the lab. He looks at why not all water is purified to the same extent, and defines which water quality scientists need for which analyses.

In our Troubled Waters segment, Estelle Riché, Applications Expert, tells us why it’s so difficult to measure the pH of ultrapure water and gives us a better way to assess its quality.
