Tonight is about pursuing life after work – and answering the question about what we consider to be work or not – when we’re doing the things that bring us joy.
In this episode, I speak with David Muise, a musician and author from Nova Scotia, who shares insights about the vibrant music scene in his community, his journey through retirement, and the significance of social connections and community engagement in the process of starting something new. We’ll also discuss the inspiration behind his children’s book as we talk about the mining life in New Waterford, Nova Scotia.
Join me and special guest, David Muise – on this 100th episode! -

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been hard at work in an environment that might look very different from what it looked like just five years ago! Some of us work from home, while others work in a hybrid role oscillating between home and traditional office spaces. Still, for many of the workforce working full time on location, work routines have remained the same – those working in traditional office, manufacturing, medical, and transportation roles, for instance.
However, one thing that has changed for all of us is how we think about our workspaces and their impact on our health. Today’s guest teaches us that we can be active participants in contributing to and improving our built work environments in a way that helps us sleep better, perform better, and feel better. And that’s good news!
Join me and special guest Dr. Esther Sternberg as we dive into the topic of becoming well at work! -
Happy New Year and welcome to another episode of Late Talks on Air on the Nancy Duffy show for Sunday, January 1st, 2023.
A true story of redemption, my guest for this week's show shares a testimony unlike any I've ever heard. Author and now pastor, Herman Mendoza, built an empire in Queens, New York, selling cocaine up and down the eastern seaboard, along with his brothers, throughout the late 1980s and into the early 90s.
Seemingly, against all odds – through prison time, affairs, depression, and only after truly realizing and understanding the repercussions of all he had done, Mendoza somehow salvages a marriage and rebuilds a life diametrically opposed to the rut carved over years of obstinance and crime. Of course, he doesn’t do it on his own, which you’ll learn more about in the episode.

Theirs is a story of a culmination of styles, personalities, and genres (blues with hints of rock and jazz) to form the making of a group called Midnight Poppies. They write, practice, and perform throughout many parts of the world all the while working some pretty demanding day jobs.

‘Quarantunes,’ song contests, and backyard collaborations.
Show Notes
Welcome to episode No. 81 of the Nancy Duffy show for this Thursday, August 20, 2020!
Today's featured guest is a budding Canadian artist who found a way to be inspired during this season of masks, sanitizers, and – 'safe spaces' – and her efforts won her a songwriting contest! The winning tune is called “Ten Speed Bike” and Clare Siobhan tells us the story behind her dreamlike lyrics, and it has everything to do with a young couple finding their way during the kind of space and transportation duress one can only encounter during a pandemic :)
So where does a songstress born in such a time as this go from here? Tune in!
You are Safe Here!
During this episode, we also discuss a creative cover of Craig Cardiff's Safe Here performed and recorded by Clare along with her good friend Christina Acton – featuring Clare’s roommates Amber LeBlanc and Amy Ward in a backyard-video. Shout out to Amber, Amy, Christina, and of course Clare on a job well done! You can watch their backyard Quarantune collaboration here.
