  • Hey Pals,

This episode of the podcast focuses on talking about different tv shows, the good and bad!

Towards the end of the podcast, I also show you how to use ChatGPT to learn how to talk about tv shows in a deeper way!

Here are some ways we talk about tv shows in English:

    Go downhill (fast/quickly/rapidly/suddenly)

That tv show went quickly downhill after the first season.

    Become predictable

The Blacklist was incredibly predictable, no surprises in that one after a while.

    To fizzle out/to peter out

That show was very good for three seasons, but then it began to fizzle out and gradually became less and less good or even popular.

    Talk about writers/writing

    The writers gave up

    The writing was fantastic

The writers woke up and decided to smoke crack

    To milk

They milked that story for way too long! That show should have ended years ago.

    Talk about the different seasons

That show should have ended three seasons ago

That show went on X seasons too many.

    Great (first/second/third/etc.) season

    A cult classic

A cult classic movie is a movie that gains a dedicated and passionate fanbase over time, despite not necessarily being a mainstream success upon its initial release.

    Binge-worthy

That show is binge-worthy, you won’t regret it.

    Tug at your heartstrings

Scrubs is a fantastic comedy show that also pulls at your heartstrings.

    A guilty pleasure

My guilty pleasure was Grays Anatomy, don’t tell anyone.

    I hope you enjoy,

    Ronan

  • Good morning you beautiful English learners, my name is Ronan and my plan is to:

Empower you to speak EnglishBoost your confidence when speakingHelp you understand high level, natural, fluent English

I am so excited to share this podcast with you because it's the first of a long journey I am embarking on. Basically, let me introduce you to the The Chats!

    What is The Chats?

This is my way of really helping advanced English learners have motivation, structure, and guidance when learning or practicing English. In fact, I see myself more of a facilitator of learning rather than a teacher in this case.

    How does it work?

We get together every two weeks and have The Chats about a topic. Next week, we are talking about a Ted Talk Why Rivers and Lakes Should Have the Same Rights as Humans.

We hop on Zoom, we shoot the breeze, I send notes, we all learn something and probably laugh. Our conversations meander from one topic to another and rarely stay on course, but the one thing they are guaranteed to do, help you perfect your perfect English!

    How do I join?

Hit the link in the description, click here, or at the very least just download the workbook for this podcast and enjoy!

Anyways, i am going to prepare some cool materials to help you learn English.

    Chat soon,

    Ronan

  • Hey!

Last week I told you about the incident with my landlord and turning off the water mid shower, I was not one bit happy. Anyway, I went and spoke to my landlord about this issue and he explained how it was out of his control. Rather than kicking up a fuss, I gave him the benefit of the doubt....

And that is what inspired this podcast about the beautiful idiom: To give the benefit of the doubt.

Sit back, relax, listen and learn my friends!

  • Good morning you beautiful Little Seals,

This very short, unplanned, off the cuff, impromptu podcast was inspired by a run in I had yesterday with a very sharp detective. Okay, so the first 20 or so minutes is random, after that I start to teach vocabulary. Basically, this story is broke into two parts, the first part is the story and the second part is the vocabulary.

    Some Key English

This is a mostly unplanned podcast about one my memories from school. Questions for you, what is the result when you mix fireworks, teenagers, and school? Well listen to this podcast and you’ll find out!

Long story short, in Ireland fireworks are illegal. In Northern Ireland, fireworks are legal. When it was Halloween, a bunch of people from Ireland would drive to Northern Ireland to buy fireworks. They would hide them in the car and drive home across the country.

The thing is, if the police caught you with fireworks, they would usually just take them themselves to their own house and have fun with their family. Corruption at it’s finest.

    Language Classes

By the way, I run English language classes every two weeks. It’s very simple, you sign up and twice a month we all meet up and chat English. We usually meet on a Thursday morning (PST time). Basically, before each class I send out a bunch of conversation starters and a video or two. Then, we meet up on every other Thursday and shoot the breeze. You’re going to love it! It’s a great way to stay in touch with your English and meet some really cool people. If this is something you’d be keen on, email me at [email protected], I hope to hear from you!

Okay, enjoy this podcast my friends,
