This years Christmas Reading is a live recording we hosted in our lobby where we invited guest to enjoy a free live event with hot chocolate , good cheer and cookies. We took the opportunity to create a space for people to donate to "Loaves and Fishes" Nanaimo's community food bank and for our students to work with some great talent from our community. A special that you to Dean Chadwick, Alex Bhargava, Sophie, Jim & Fynn Maher.

Our second annual celebration of Pride month !!! We have Alex Bhargava bringing us a diverse discussion about growing up and watching how the media is adapting the conversation about LGBTQ+ representation and what that means to students and various perspective from different generations. Alex is joined by our very own Dean of Arts and Humanities - Dr. Marni Stanley along side Chris Yeast , chair of VIU Positive space alliance and Rowan O’Callaghan currently enrolled in VIU’s Theatre Department.

Leon Potter 's THEA 205 acting class & Craig Taylors Crew 241 - Script writing for the Stage come together for 3 combined classes that filled our lobby with a crazy combination of stories about Creepy first dates, what happens if you are abducted by a UFO ??? and who goes to a funeral to find a date ... Sean Enns who talks about his creative process when developing scripts, Connor Runnings newest play which features Neurodiverse characters is headed over to Revolverfest at the Cultch theatre. Charlie Lincoln discusses what it's like to work with the scripts and Eliza Gardiner discusses what Inclusive theatre means to her as she gets prepared to head off to Greece for some field research.

Playwright Craig Tayler, Director Leon Potter and Student Kyla Van Rick get together to discuss some of the benefits of combining a playwriting class with an acting class. Through the term these two instructors have been combining their classes occasionally to give young playwrights a chance to work with actors and vice versa, creating a staged reading of their original work. This experiment proved incredibly beneficial as we discussed what worked, what didn’t and the possibilities that lay inside the text.
