Για τη μία πτυχή της Κυπριακής τραγωδίας που έμεινε μακρυά από τη δημοσιότητα για 40 χρόνια. Δηλαδή μέχρι το 2015 όταν επιτέλους έγειρε το θέμα εντός του κοινοβουλίου η τότε βουλεύτρια του ΑΚΕΛ Σκεύη Κουκουμά. Σήμερα μιλώ με τη Σκεύη, Γενική Γραμματέας του Γυναικείου Κινήματος ΠΟΓΟ, για το ξεκίνημα της πορείας αυτής να μάθει για το δράμα των γυναικών που έπεσαν θύματα βιασμών το '74, για την υποχρέωση της πολιτείας να παρέχει οικονομική στήριξη, για τις μαζικές αμβλώσεις που έγιναν και τον εξοστρακισμό αυτών των γυναικών από το κοινωνικό περιβάλλον της αγροτικής τότε Κύπρου.

Poly Gregora has been advocating for mental health in Cyprus since she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder almost 20 years ago. On today's show, we talk about her journey to a diagnosis, finding a suitable psychiatrist/psychologist and what she's learned from participating in various causes and organisations on the island. We also chat about a new podcast we have created in collaboration with Black Lemon TV, The Mental Wellness Podcast, where we will be interviewing specialists and professionals on a broad range of mental health topics, and about the NHS services available in Cyprus and how to access them.

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome on the podcast three teenagers and students from the Pascal English School in Nicosia. Stephanie, 16, Theodora, 15, and Neno, 17, have been working on a school project, called reBLUE, that aims to reduce plastic pollution on the beaches of Cyprus. They came on the podcast to share information on the project that involves encouraging beachgoers to reuse beach toys that they can find in handmade wooden boxes, which the kids made, on a number of beaches around the island. Our chat also involved social media and influencers and how popular environmental issues are among the youth.

Σχεδόν 7% των μαθητών της Κύπρου έχουν διαγνωστεί με ΔΕΠΥ (Διαταραχή Ελλειμματικής Προσοχής με/χωρίς Υπερκινητικότητα). Είναι άλλοι τόσοι που υπάρχουν, μετά δυσκολίας, χωρίς διάγνωση. Άρα χωρίς τις βοηθητικές παρεμβάσεις που μπορούν να βελτιώσουν τη ζωή τους, να τους προστατεύσουν από κινδύνους και να αναδείξουν τα ξεχωριστά προσόντα και ικανότητες που έχουν αυτά τα άτομα με ΔΕΠΥ. Ο Σύνδεσμος υπάρχει εδώ και 20 χρόνια, οι διαγνώσεις αυξάνονται, το ίδιο και οι απαιτήσεις για συμπερίληψη αυτών των ατόμων και όμως πολύ λίγοι αναγνωρίζουν τις ανάγκες και πολύ λίγα γίνονται σε τοπικό επίπεδο για την στήριξη συνδέσμων και την αποτελεσματική εξυπηρέτηση τόσο των παιδιών με ΔΕΠΥ όσο και των ενηλίκων.
Στο σημερινό επεισόδιο με την πρόεδρο του Συνδέσμου, Μαρίνα Γεωργίου, συζητούμε τους μύθους και τις πραγματικότητες για αυτή τη νευροαναπτυξιακή διαταραχή, τις αλλαγές που πρέπει να γίνουν στο εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα, πως γίνονται οι αξιολογήσεις για ενήλικες και τα προγράμματα που τρέχει ο Σύνδεσμους για να βοηθηθούν οικογένειες και εκπαιδευτικοί.

Magda Zenon is a peace and human rights activist who has lived in apartheid South Africa. She has been an active member of civil society for over 20 years, helping to create organisations such as Hands Across the Divide, the Gender Advisory Team and the Cyprus Women's Lobby. She's also a member of the Women's Mediators of the Commonwealth network amongst other groups, and she is the creator of the first online audio platform, KaleidHERscope, where women share stories of peacebuidling, gender-based violence and women's participation in decision-making.
Today on the podcast we chat about two very different topics: As a 66-year old single mum, she has recently retired so she talks about her experience with entering this new stage, the pension discrimination and the pro bono work we do as women.
We also talk about the apartheid in South Africa where she lived, the occupation in Cyprus and the situation in Gaza, the ICC's decision to apply for arrest warrants, the mistrust in the UN, women caught in this conflict, the Eurovision and the misinformation that exists online.

Η Πόλυ Γρηγορά διαγνώστηκε με Διπολική Διαταραχή πριν από 15 χρόνια. Και από τότε έχει αφιερώσει τον χρόνο και την ενέργεια της στη ψυχική υγεία και την εξάλειψη του στιγματισμού που την περιβάλλει.
