Being "authentic" has become a real buzz word, but what does living and working authentically look like for you?
While we hear a lot about being authentic I'm curious as to how can we move from talking to taking action and show up as our true selves, breaking free from external expectations.
Joining me in this conversation is Esme Filsinger, business and self-belief coach who is helping her clients get connected to their purpose and understand their true desires overcoming expectations of what we "should" be doing in life or work.
In this episode, Esme raises many intriguing questions to help us dive into our values, our desired impact and how to uncover what we really want outside of what might be expected of us.

The gender investing gap is real. Women typically retire with less money than their male counterparts.
When you factor in that women are more likely to take time off work to care for their family and have a more cautious attitude to investing money, as well as the gender pay gap, it's easy to see how this chasm is created.
My guest today is Emilie Bellet, founder of Vestpod, the online platform with a mission to financially empower women by teaching them how to take control of their finances and how to make their money work for them through investing.
When it comes to investing, I've personally found the subject confusing and didn't know where to start. In this episode, Emilie shares so many great resources for how we can start seeking to grow your money, how we can open up the conversation around personal finances, and how we can build a positive money mindset.

Jolinda Johnson is a wellness mentor and priestess, helping women break free from burn out and to start living as the badasses they were born to be.
In this episode, Jolinda shares with me her personal experience of breaking out of the expected societal roles and how she has reconnected with "the wild woman" archetype.

The traditional approach to work, with set days, hours, and workplaces has been around for hundreds of years with little deviation or consideration despite how much the world has changed.
Our working hours have got longer and the separation between work and our personal life has got closer, with our jobs often contributing to our sense of self-worth and status, so what's all this doing to our mental health, and is there another way?
Joining me today is Jo Hooper, founder of Mad & Sad Club who's mission is to disrupt the world of work and, through coaching and group programs, is helping people manage their mental health and make work work for them.
Sharing her first-hand experience and fantastic thoughts on careers, the workplace and mental health, this conversation with Jo is an eye-opening look at how we trade our time for money, what an alternative way of working can look like, and how you can manage your mental health at work.

How much did you learn about the menstrual cycle and contraception at school? I don't remember these subjects being covered in great detail, so fast forward to adulthood and I still have gaps in my knowledge around these topics and so many questions.
To help answer some of these questions my guest today is a fertility awareness educator, Nathalie, who is empowering people with menstrual cycles to build a relationship with their bodies through charting their menstrual cycles for hormonal health, overall well-being, and natural contraception.
This conversation with Nathalie incredibly informative as she shares her knowledge on menstruation and what we can learn by tracking our cycles.
We tackle some common misconceptions around hormonal contraception and take another look at what we were taught as Nathalie gives an insightful update to our education on ovulation, hormones, menstruation, and contraception.

Welcome back to Modern Day Rebels, I am so excited to kick off season 2. In this season I will be sitting down with modern day rebels who actively challenge the conventional and together we will demystify terms and topics you're familiar with, but never had the chance to dive in to.
My first guest is Natalie Scott, money mindset and savings coach, who talks about the powerful concept of paying yourself first. Natalie shares with me how this mindset shift can help to reach your financial goals, as well as how we can save more, manage our money and build generational wealth.
Money can be a taboo subject to raise with your family, and without finance being taught in schools it's no surprise we can find ourselves as adults with misconceptions and a negative money mindset. Natalie is working to switch out our outdated beliefs about money and is teaching money management to younger generations getting them talking about spending and saving.

Welcome to the season finale of Modern Day Rebels, I can hardly believe that 12 weeks have passed since launching this podcast. With so many brilliant and insightful guests, I’ve loved exploring how we can live better and more meaningful lives.
Like many of my guests I have taken a more unconventional career path myself. Having initially studied both cognitive science and psychology, I found a love for the tech sector, specifically user experience design, which provided a perfect intersection of psychology and design to solve problems.
In this episode I want to give you more background on Modern Day Rebels as a whole, and take a deeper dive into three of the key themes that kept coming up in conversation with my guests, understanding the importance they play in living life on their own terms.
While I have to admit I feel a lot more comfortable asking other people questions than talking about myself it’s been fascinating to look back at this season as a whole and I can’t wait to bring you more stories of Modern Day Rebels in September.

My guest this week is Pip Christie, founder of Unedited Business, the ick free agency that helps small businesses showcase who they really are.
For Pip this isn't just a marketing ethos, it's also how she has curated her own career and lifestyle to follow what feels right and true for her.
Over the last 18 months, Pip has quit her in-house marketing role, moved to Australia, and set up her freelance business finding that courage to craft a life that allows time for both work and rest.
In this episode Pip shares how she took her passion project and transitioned it into a viable business, finding an approach to work that works for her, be that traveling in a camper van, exploring a new city, or working from her home office in London.

Cody Dillabough is the CEO and founder of Avoy, a mobile app that helps travelers find destinations off the beaten path.
I was intrigued by Cody’s story as he initially planned on becoming a brain surgeon but ultimately pursued his other childhood interest which was, surprisingly, the financial markets. Cody worked on Wall Street for a number of years and is now on a much less conventional path traveling the world developing Avoy.
Cody’s story highlighted how making life changes or following your passions doesn’t always need a big leap of faith. In fact, after thoughtful analysis, sometimes staying in your current role is a bigger risk than trying something new.

We’re often told to “go with our gut” but actually following our own intuition can be really hard when it goes against conventional ideas of career or success.
My guest today is Kelsey Layne, designer and founder of Note and Shine. Kelsey has learned first hand to follow her intuition and to trust that she knows what’s best for her, even when it goes against the grain.
Following that internal compass has seen Kelsey attend three universities, quit a job that made her unhappy, opening a vegan burger van, to now running her own beautiful wellness brand.
Kelsey is passionate about creating sustainable stationery that helps others bring self-care into their daily life, giving motivational tips to tap into your magic, and create a life you love.
In this episode, Kelsey tells me about the tools she uses to believe she can achieve all that she wants to and shares some great advice on self-care that you can apply to your everyday.

Launching her own food styling and photography business she puts her values at the heart of everything she does and everyone she works with.

This week joining me is Callum Goodwilliam, a Senior Programme Manager for General Assembly, who shares how he forged a career he truly loves.
I met Callum a little over a year ago and I was immediately impressed by the way he intentionally approaches every project and his supportive leadership style.
It’s clear Callum loves his job but it wasn’t just by coincidence that he ended up in this role. He’s worked hard to understand what works best for him, so I was keen to dig further into this evolution to uncover the how and why of how he got there.
Starting his career in the arts and later falling in love with improv, Callum realised he could transfer parts of his interests and skills into a meaningful career in the tech industry.
Although it wasn’t a career path he imagined for himself reflecting on this now, he can see all junctures that lead him there based on his passions and values.
If you’re thinking about making a career change and aren’t sure where to start or how to take the expertise you have and apply them to a new role or industry, then this is the episode for you!

Anyone can live life on their own terms, not just freelancers and those who are self-employed. Being your own boss is a mindset and a conscious decision, not always a title you can put on a resume.
We often underestimate how much the freedom we have within our roles in an organisation, whether that’s bringing our personalities to work or finding ways in which we can grow in a job. The idea that innovation can only happen outside of traditional roles is shifting.
This conversation with Alice Olins, Founder of the Step Up Club, highlighted this notion and had so many tangible takeaways for me. Another that sticks out is being an “intrapreneur”. Intrapreneurs take the innovative thinking of an entrepreneur, challenging ideas and looking for opportunities, but within an organisation.
As Alice says so beautifully throughout this episode, we put a lot of pressure on our jobs and they become a measure for how happy we are in our lives, but our needs and wants evolve over our careers. By understanding what our own version of success looks like we can stop comparing ourselves to others and do more of what makes us happy.

This week I sat down with Roshni Mahtani, a modern day rebel in every sense of the word. Roshni's a captivating storyteller and is an expert in quite a few different fields.
After 9 years of studying architecture, Roshni began to question whether she wanted to continue down her current career path or if she would be more fulfilled by applying her creative and analytical skills within other industries. After much analytical thinking and careful planning, she took some time off to change fields, retrain, and relocate.
I really admire Roshni’s analytical approach to changing her career trajectory; her shift was calculated, strategic, and ultimately felt more like an appropriate next step rather than a big career leap. If you’re currently considering a change of direction with your career or other elements in your life, this episode may provide takeaways for building a framework around thinking about job transitions and guidance on figuring out when the time is right.
As Roshni says in the episode, nothing you do is a waste of time, especially if you can focus on experimenting and learning rather than succeeding.
Roshni recently started a new role as a UI/UX Designer at New Day. Her first day was actually as lockdown began in the UK, so I was interested to hear how working remotely has impacted her experience of starting a new job.
