Here we look at the often negative cycle for parents when they do not have sufficient support for themselves, and various pathways towards greater wellbeing for both parents and their trans child. We also talk about the key kinds of support that parents need to accelerate their own movement towards greater wellbeing and connection as a 'trans family'.

Here we break down the key things that are associated with risk and resilience. This is the stuff that makes the difference between really poor mental health, and your child's capacity to develop incredible resilience, so that they can bounce back from the challenges they face as a trans or gender diverse person. You can think of these things as the 'levers' of trans wellbeing. You as a parent have a profound influence over this lever - and often in ways you don't expect.

Here we take a look at the idea of Minority Stress, which helps explain why it is difficult for parents who are adjusting to the information that their child is trans, non-binary or gender diverse. This concept is one that we build on throughout the rest of the course, as it's incredibly important for understanding what dysphoria is and how to help your child find relief, among other things.

This episode is all about what you do with your fear, when you're afraid for your child, and how you can avoid the most common mistake parents often make. We've called this 'The Parental Fear Paradox", and it's about how trying to protect your trans child might paradoxically be the hardest things they face.
We also cover the 'Wellbeing Curve' which is a graph (linked visual below) of how the wellbeing of trans people and their parents tend to track over time.
