Title: What does an occupational therapist do?
.
On this episode, Heather Wilkens Mogielnicki, Occupational Therapist, was interviewed. From the age of 10 Heather only wanted to be a professional flutist. Her focus and dedication to her instrument led her to receive her BFA in flute performance from SUNY Purchase in 1991. She herself was a patient of a hand therapist which sparked her next passion of helping others with injuries to recover. She then went on to obtain a BS in Occupational Therapy from the University of Hartford in 1998. Heather spent 17 years working at UCONN Health Center in their Hand Therapy department and Musician’s Clinic…..combing her two passions……hand trauma/injuries and Music. Heather is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists, has published multiple book reviews for the Journal of Hand Therapy and has co-authored research studies during her time at the health center. Tired of the path the “business” of health care has gone down she decided to open her own clinic to enable her to focus on the patient and patient only.
Besides being a hand geek, she is a mom of a 14 year old soccer and X-Box obsessed boy and an 12 year old dance obsessed girl…….spending many hours on the field and in the dance studio! Heather loves to run with her four legged best friends and stay active…..”If we want to keep moving and living through all stages of our lives it’s super important we stay active and take time for our health.”
