  • Xenomorphs, and Facehuggers, and Chestbursters, oh my!

Kay and Ama had the pleasure of seeing an early screening of Alien: Romulus and couldn't wait to dive into a new installment in one of the greatest sci-fi horror franchises to date! Elissa was grounded for reenacting the chestburster scene from the original 1979 film during dinner, but have no fear Pillow Frighters! In her place is screenwriter/actor/co-host of the monthly Los Angeles trivia event Dead Right Horror Trivia - Jared Rivet! As always, we get into general discussion first with plenty of notice before heading into spoiler town.

Alien: Romulus officially comes out in theaters today (August 16th), so head on over to your local theater, fill that xenomorph popcorn bucket up and come back and join us for some good ol' fashioned Alien fun!

  • Happy New Theme Month, Pillow Frighters! This month’s most anticipated new releases have one thing in common, and that’s serial killer mysteries with detectives on the case! We’re staying in the neighborhood of Slasher Summer with Serial Season, and what better movie to start us off than with 1986’s Manhunter? This one oozes the 1980s so much, you’ll practically slip on the sweet sexy synth sounds (and alliteration).

Other talking points include the rad viral marketing campaigns of summer’s most anticipated releases, our new favorite pre-show vocal warmup “MIKE MIGNOLA”, and the many, MANY off-the-wall tangents that almost turned this episode into drinking game of Hellboy Mad Libs. This is not your mother’s podcast episode, so if you enjoy us at our most NSFW (aka our absolute BEST), this episode is for you!

  • What if you could shadow a killer and learn the tricks of the trade used by the most iconic slashers of all time? Well, you're in luck tonight! Join us for our first slumber party of the month as we kick things off with Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, as part of our Summer of Slashers June lineup. We break down the film's unique approach to the slasher genre, marvel at Nathan Baesel's charismatic portrayal, and compare it to In a Violent Nature. This one is definitely quintessential viewing if you’re into subversive slasher films!

Expect a twisted Easter egg hunt as we uncover many, MANY subtle (and not-so-subtle) nods to various classic horror films, explore the brilliance of horror mockumentaries and the allure of characters like Leslie Vernon, and fantasize about horror-themed workouts that may or may not already exist (spoiler: it does it and it's called Slashercise).

So grab your pizza, scythe and Preparation H and let's get into it!

  • Get ready to bust through your local theater screen and time warp back to 1986, y'all! This week the Pillow Fright gals are going to Camp Bloodbath to discuss 2015's The Final Girls as their second out-of-the-box slasher pick for this month's theme.

Other talking points include the power of Betty Davis Eyes, the grief cycle and catharsis through art, and the ongoing debate over whether M&Ms belong in popcorn or not.

  • It's the Summer of Slashers, friends!

That's right, it's a new month which means a new theme, but this lineup of slashers isn't full of your typical 9-5 slasher. No, we're talking innovative slasher flicks that think outside of the box and bring something new to the formula, and what better way to begin this long trek through the woods than with the new IFC release, In a Violent Nature?

Other talking points include the first slasher movies we ever saw, many Johnny Doesn't Know puns and references, and ASMR birds and guts.

Johnny would walk 500 miles, and Johnny would walk 500 more...would we?? Listen and find out!

  • It's our last episode of Mystic May! We loved this theme so much that we just had to keep it going into June, but what a fitting film it still is for Pride Month! In this week's episode, Elissa and Ama delve into the magical world of Clive Barker's Lord of Illusions (1995). As always, we discuss both spoiler-free and spoiler topics so you're covered no matter what!

Other talking points include: Walton Goggins (a lot), crossing eyes with Bill Skarsgård, Nic Cage's most disturbing role yet in the upcoming Longlegs, Ama's Butterfield eyebrow era, and if Clive Barker directed GODDESS at the Stardust Casino (in Showgirls).

So open up your Third Eye butthole and come join us!
