For the final week of season 2, we went big. Shane is joined by Talia Bernstein (9JKL), Alex and Sarah Franklin (Trust the Bachelor Process podcast), Tiffany Tomaszewski (The Guilty Remnant podcast), and Kristen Zublin (Booch improv) and we take on one of our collective favorites, ‘Mean Girls’. We start talking about what this movie means to us, past mean girl tendencies, and then it devolves into just us talking about our old screen names, Smarter Child, getting cast as Mary Magdalene, and typical jr. high/high school outfits. It’s a lotta fun! Learned a lot.
If you haven’t already, check out the Franklin’s podcast ‘Trust The Bachelor Process’!

Dana Cox, Rachel Forman and Katie Plattner of the improv group Goblin Boys come on to do Disney’s foray into the Middle East, ‘Aladdin’. We discuss first crushes, Dana and Rachel’s Dominos + ‘Aladdin’ after school routine, Raja’s gender, ‘Moana’, the whole “Genie, you’re free” meme from when Robin Williams died, who counts as a Disney princess and Shane’s disdain for Aladdin’s voice.

Rachel Hastings (Bob’s Burgers) and Allegra Ringo (Can I Pet Your Dog? podcast) are both so lovely and funny, so of course they brought on the lovely and funny (and weird) movie ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’! Together they discuss taking the movie seriously, Mira Sorvino’s insane accent choice, the lack of female buddy comedies, wondering who sets up high school reunions, who we went to high school with and why we live in big cities with tiny houses instead of owning a big home in the middle of nowhere.
Check out Rachel’s episode of ‘Bob’s Burgers’ called “The Hurt Soccer” on HULU. And check out Allegra’s podcast ‘Can I Pet Your Dog?’ on Maximum Fun.

Dickie Copeland and Joel Jensen (UCB’s The Dragons) are back for some more Tolkien, y’all! This time it’s ‘The Two Towers’ and we have a LOT to say about it. Some things covered include the sparse use of Haldir, problems with Faramir and choices taken differently than the book, more fantastic Orc lines, how great Aragorn is, Eowyn’s awful singing, some Hobbit shit-talking, and mostly, our favorite parts.
If you are in LA, definitely go see The Dragons perform at UCB. They are the best!

Them Lennon’s do Signs!
Note 1: I know Bangladesh is a country, I’m sorry.
Note 2: The joke I claim no one will recognize is from ‘Rocket Power’

It was a no-brainer to have Shane’s brother Will back, as well as their cousin Henry to do M. Night Shyamalan’s last good movie, ‘Signs’. They all love this movie despite it’s faults and have seen it many, many times. Discussion includes a terrible fan theory about demons, having to admit Mel Gibson is good in it, Michael Showalter’s cameo, and mostly just really breaking down why this movie is great.
Clarification: Graham is an Episcopal priest.

After doing a movie that was later to be renamed ‘A New Hope’, Patrick Ehlers and Mark Mitchell (Nintendo Cartridge Society podcast) had to come back and do every Star Wars nerd’s favorite of those films, ‘Empire Strikes Back’. The three of them talk being fine with Ewoks, the stress and dragging this movie brings, hating nostolgiabate/Star Wars nerds, Patrick’s desire for Yoda’s feet, Vader’s managerial skills, and what counts as nerdy now that nerds are mainstream.

This is a big one for Shane. When Rachel Chapman, Clare Loughran and Oscar Montoya were on the first time to do ‘Emperor’s New Groove’, they finished recording, then immediately realized they all were obsessed with Tom Hanks’ feel-good, extremely likeable, fake one-hit wonder film, ‘That Thing You Do!’. So of course, they had to come back on and totally nail this thing. On this episode, the 4 of them dive into why they love this film, the brilliance of Steve Zahn (praying for the Zahnassiance), the movie’s (possible) only flaw, how much they love the titular song, one of the best scenes in film history and what the hell they were thinking when they made the extended edition.

Mike, Patrick and Shane knock the recreation of ‘Summer Catch’ out of the (smaller-sized) park!
(Listen to their discussion of the movie on the previous episode!)

Michael Levin and Patrick Kang (NBC’s Trial and Error) are back to talk one of their favorite summer jams ‘Summer Catch.’ Together they discuss such things as Matthew Lillard’s off-color jokes, Freddie Prinze Jr’s Boston accent, the film’s connection to ‘Good Will Hunting’, an amazing anecdote about a former ‘Scrubs’ star, bad movie baseball and overall, just convincing Shane this is a good movie.
Watch season 2 of Trial and Error on NBC, starting on July 19th! Also, listen to Mike’s 76ers podcast, The Rights To Ricky Sanchez (TTP)!

Convoy and Shane attack ‘Jaws’! We sing ‘Le Freak’ a lot.
*Apologies for the audio quality! It’s still funny!*

It was a huge honor to have Alex Berg, Alex Fernie and Todd Fasen (UCB’s Convoy) come on the show to talk the first ever blockbuster ‘Jaws’. We talk the way story is told that other filmmakers get wrong and overall pretty much just the strengths and weaknesses of Spielberg. Don’t worry, we love him. We aren’t snooty.

A Playing Favorites Special Episode: Last year for Father’s Day, I had my Dad, Joe Lennon, and my Uncle/Godfather, Kipp Lennon, on to do ‘The Godfather’ and it was a blast. So of course this year, I had to have them back to do ‘The Godfather Part II’ to complete it (*The third Godfather does not exist and shall not be named*). We compare the two movies, talk about the brilliance of DeNiro, Coppola biting off a little more than he could chew, Pacino’s pronunciation, missing Clemenza, tracking shots and debate if Johnny Ola got killed (my Dad was right, he did). Then after we take this 3 and ½ hour behemoth and recreate in half the time! My accents are terrible in this but who cares. I love my Father and my Godfather and we absolutely love The Godfather(s)
