  • Ted Gushue is the founder of Type 7, a magazine produced for Porsche. He also owns ERG Media a creative agency.

Recently, Ted was in town for Curvistan. In this pop-up Porsche experience, the Mandala Club served as the backdrop for the race-winning Porsche 550 Spyder that is on display along with the Curves Magazine and TAG Heuer.

Ted speaks exclusively about how he came up with the idea for Type 7 and why he chose to name it so.

He speaks about his recent collaboration with the Porsche Museum where Type 7 documented some of its secret productions into a 356-page (See what they did there?) coffee table book.

Before creating Type 7, Ted was Editor in Chief of Petrolicious. The popular but controversial title was embroiled in a Twitter scandal that nearly closed the website. Ted gives his take on what really happened.

The interview was held at Curvistan, Porsche Legends, a temporary experiential brand space on the ground floor of Mandala Club which previously housed Daniel Arsham’s “Crystal Eroded Porsche 992” art car transforms once again to become Curvistan, a publicly-accessible exhibition that opens in conjunction with the new Porsche NOW pop-up.

Curvistan is a gallery, event space and hangout, all rolled into one. First shown in the famous Glockenbach district in Munich, the space will be themed periodically by curator Stefan Bogner of Curves Magazine fame, and celebrates Soulful Driving – the joy of the journey rather than the destination.

The first theme is “Legends” – a celebration of the most iconic race cars from the storied history of Porsche in motorsport. A collection of winning visuals from the Porsche Museum Archive adorns the walls of the space, alongside a selection of eight vintage watches from brand partner TAG Heuer. A special collection of Porsche Museum-sourced and Curvistan-themed merchandise is also available for sale.

In the centre of the space sits a legendary Porsche 550 Spyder. This was Porsche’s first model to be designed specifically with motorsport in mind, and in an upgraded engine specification with Hans Herrmann at the wheel in 1954, it won the grueling Carrera Panamericana endurance road race in Mexico.
