Collateral consequences affect not only the people involved but also our society as a whole. We want people coming out of the prison system to be contributing citizens. However, the collateral consequences can prohibit people from obtaining basic needs such as work, housing, and more. In this episode, Elizabeth Justesen, Esq., of the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk Country reveals information that everyone should know about before stepping into the courtroom and how to prepare for the roadblocks ahead. She also provides insight into recidivism and why some people return to prison because of society's limitations on them.
