There is lots of woo-woo rubbish being marketed to women for the management of menopause. Most of it is useless apart from making your wallet lighter. There are though several complementary options in menopause are evidence-based. Dr Lucy and Dr Mary discuss hot flushes (or hot flashes) during menopause which is one of the most common symptoms and for many women one of the most distressing. They discuss some of the non-drug treatments available. They focus on three mind-body practices proven to be safe and effective: yoga, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and hypnosis. They do a deep dive into hypnosis and explain how it can be used to regulate body temperature, improve sleep, reduce stress, and increase motivation to exercise.

PMDD or Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder is a severe form of PMS that causes emotional and psychological distress. It can be so serious that it can impact a person’s daily life. Those with PMDD find normal activities such as work or school, exercising, or self-care difficult. It sometimes triggers thoughts of suicide and self-harm and it often worsens in perimenopause
